With only 9 players, the Eagles went out and got the victory last night. While the Coach wanted to forfeit, the Kids said No…. Emmie Vines scored 4 and Shelly Renegar scored 3 for the Eagles. UPDATE – I’ve gotten some private feedback that demands some clarification. Let me say I’m an Eagles fan, I love the fact that the Coach was concerned a player might get hurt playing short-handed BUT was also prepared to support the players choice to play. That’s the kind of team I want to be on!
Parkview Vikings - 8 Hillcrest Hornets – 1
The Vikings got goals from Shelbie Stewart (2), M. Robb, Jessica Maerz (3) and Kelsey Loderhose (2). K Freeman scored for the Hornets.
Joplin Eagles – 3 (PKs) Lebanon Yellowjackets – 2
The Eagles win in this late season game points to their traditional ability to peak during Districts. Joplin’s Kelsey Sanders scored first with about 17 1/2 minutes left in the first half. Lebanon tied it up about 3 minutes later (#6 Hannah Winkle). With less than 5 minutes left in the first half, Joplin’s Autumn Lewis scored off of a Lauren Copple corner kick to put Joplin ahead 2 to 1 at the half. Lebanon’s # 5 Emily Boyer tied it up again with just over 9 minutes left in the second half. Both overtime periods were scoreless sending the game into PKs. Sorry, I did not note which Lebanon’s players made their PKs. Joplin’s Kelsey Sanders made the first PK. Lebanon scored. Joplin’s second shot went high. Lebanon’s second shot was blocked by Joplin’s goalie. Joplin’s Katelyn Miller scored. Lebanon’s third shooter scored. Joplin’s Autumn Lewis scored. Lebanon’s fourth shot was blocked by the goalie. Joplin’s Stephanie Loden scored to give Joplin the win with a 4 to 3 PK advantage.
Kickapoo Chiefs – 3 Camdenton Lakers – 2
Kickapoo’s Megan Melugin scored all three goals for Kickapoo including one 10 minutes in the first half giving Kickapoo a 1-0 lead through the half. Two minutes into the second half, Camdenton’s Haley Baker scored off a cross tying the score at 1 each. Kickapoo scored twice more and led 3-1 until 13 minutes left in the match when Camdenton’s Stephanie Kirvan scored a goal making it 3-2. Kickapoo outshot Camdenton in a contest that was physical and fun to watch.
Waynesville Tigers – 2 West Plains Zizzers – 0
Erica Combs scores via a PK late in the first half and #16 adds a late goal for the final margin of victory
Nixa Eagles – 0 Ozark Tigers – 1
A battle for the inaugural Central Ozark Conference large school title this season goes to the Tigers who got the game winner from senior Eva Schwert who’s original shot was blocked by goalie Kristin Miller. The rebound fell to Schwert however who buried her second opportunity.
Springfield Catholic – 4 Bolivar Liberators – 1
The Fightin’ Irish earn the COC small school title with their win. Catholic gets two goals from Natalie Smid and two from Bekah Bade. Jonna Welch scored for the Liberators with an amazing 24 yard blast. Catholic goalkeeper Rachel Scott was issued a red card in the 12th minute for handling the ball outside the penalty area.
Willard Tigers – 2 (PKs) Carthage Tigers – 1
Willard jumped out to a 1-0 lead minutes before the end of the first half, but the Lady Tigers were able to tie it up with less than 10 minutes left in regulation when Patricia Marin, off an assist from Jessica Diaz, found the back of the net. Scoreless overtime led to PK’s, won by Willard. Story in the Carthage Press.
Neosho Wildcats – 4 Branson Pirates – 1
Neosho gets goals from Jackie Field, Melanie White and Shelby. Neva Raschel scored for Branson. Neosho is now 10-7 this season, 3-2 in the COC and will soon be focusing on getting past Joplin for a District title.
Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 4 Marshfield Blue Jays – 3
A late season upset for the Wildcats, knocking off their Webster-county rivals.
Moberly Spartans – 2 Camdenton Lakers – 1
In the first round of the Moberly Tournament, the Lakers fall to the hosts. Sophomore Ashley Paschel scored the lone goal for the Lady Lakers while freshman outside midfielder Abbey Herfurth had the assist.
Camdenton Lakers – 4 Hannibal - 0
Camdenton Lakers – 6 Warrenton – 0
Camdenton finishes second in the round robin tournament after beating Hannibal 4-0 early Saturday in the pouring rain at Moberly and beating Warrenton 6-0 in the afternoon game. Senior Stephanie Kirvan, junior Latea LaRue and sophomores Kali Kuse and Ashely Paschel earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Camdenton improves to 9-2 after the tournament.
West Plains Zizzers – 2 Mtn View Liberty Eagles – 1
In the 11th minute of the half, Katie Shannon took a ball near midfield and dribbled toward the goal. Shannon shot from near the edge of the 18 yard box as the keeper came out to cut down the angle. The ball found the back of the net, giving West Plains a 1-0 lead. Shelly Renegar tied the game for the Eagles from the spot soon afterwards. The game winner came when Ashley Harris battled with a Liberty defender before finally getting past her. After cutting in toward the goal, the goalkeeper started coming out and Harris sent a nice low cross to a wide open Dani Valade in front of the goal who redirected the ball into the back of the net.
Sedalia Sacred Heart hosts a pair of Springfield teams this weekend, with Central on Friday and Greenwood on Saturday.

Jaclyn Standfast scored six minutes into the game when she stole the ball from a Hawk defender at midfield and was able to break in on the goal 1v1 with the keeper.
Olivia Cox scored on a scramble in the box five minutes into the second half for the final score.
RHS improves to 5-1-2 on the season and record their sixth shutout in eight games.
Bolivar Liberators – 5 Nixa Eagles – 4
The Liberators knocked off their Central Ozark foes with a goal by freshman Sara Magana (28), who leaped into the air near the penalty spot to meet Jonna Welch’s (excellent cross from the right side, nodding it into the net beyond the reach of the keeper. Beautiful goal, scored in the 77th minute, to negate a comeback by the Eagles from a 4-2 halftime deficit.
Both teams are very athletic and committed, it was a lively game that saw the attack go back and forth throughout the match. 2-2 only 20 minutes into the game, Bolivar went on to score two more to gain the early advantage. A shot by Jonna Welch from the right side just outside the box somehow fell under the cross bar, and a throw-in by Julie Magana (23), done via the flip and near the endline, worked to perfection as she put it to the near upper corner where it was easily knocked in when the keeper was unable to handle the hard throw.
Both teams came out hard in the 2nd half but it was the Eagles that began to put together the passes necessary to maintain possession and create opportunities for themselves. The first came from the penalty spot, following a foul in the box. Taken confidently by Kelsey Haist, it energized the Eagles further and they continued the attack. The 4th goal was a beauty, nodded into the net at the far post by (18) from Haist’s cross near the right endline. Haist got to the spot by picking up an attempted clearance and then battling through 3 defenders, pushing the ball past a second attempt to stop her in the box, and then delivering the quality ball.
Bolivar’s goals were scored by Jody McFarlen (PK), Hannah Harris, Julie Magana, Jonna Welch, and the game winner in the 75th minute by Sarah Magana.
Bolivar and Nixa both have teams prepared to compete. The Liberators just want to go forward, and have the youth and energy to do that all night. Nixa appears poised to join Glendale, Kickapoo, Ozark and Catholic as a program that wants to move the ball on the ground and create goals. When they spread the field tonight, they were able to do just that. Bolivar’s pressure, and some early season injuries, meant they weren’t able to get the job done in the time available to them tonight. I’m looking forward to seeing both teams several more times with the playoffs only a month away now.

Janessa, Honorary Captain, Mt Home Bombers
Mtn. Home (AR) Bombers – 4 West Plains Zizzers – 0
Janessa, a fourth grader in the Mt Home (AR) school district is a big soccer fan. She’s battling cancer and goes to Little Rock every 2 weeks for chemo but wanted to see a game. The good weather meant today was the day – Janessa was an honorary captain and the team presented her a signed ball. The Zizzer’s offered a jersey signed by all the players (pictured) as well. Janessa handled the the coin toss (we lost the toss and mtn home deferred and let us have the choice anyway – good sportsmanship). It was a big night for Janessa and a nice win for the Bombers.

100 minutes could not decide the contest but Greenwood prevails in pk’s. Marshfield goals scored by Kylea Ryser and Alex Cantrell. Liza Salisbury and Cook record the Greenwood goals
Camdenton Lakers – 2 Branson Pirates – 0
Goals were scored by Stephanir Kirvan, Latea LaRue, Jessica Smith, Haley Baker, and Kayla Utley. Smith and Baker each had an assist while Ashley Paschel had two assists on the night.
Camdenton Lakers – 2 Central Bulldogs – 0
Camdenton goals by senior Stephanie Kirvan (10) and freshman Danielle Brooks (1). Camdenton sophomore goalie Sandra Shore gets the shutout, but Central’s freshman keeper stole the show with several incredible saves.
Ozark Tigers – 3 Joplin Eagles – 0
Ozark got all three goals in the first half and held on for the win. Alicia Collard got the game-winner in the 17th minute of play, with goals by senior Eva Schwert in the 32nd minute and a long range shot by Jayme Braun in the 38th minute. Story on Tiger’s website.

Greenwood Blue Jays vs Joplin McCauley – canceled
Kickapoo Chiefs – 3 (1st OT) Nixa Eagles – 2
Rachel Murphy would open the scoring for the Eagles, who then gave one up to McKenna Adams of the Chiefs on the ensuing restart. The Chiefs would get their first lead of the game on Abby Anderson’s PK due to an Eagle’s hand ball in the box. The Eagles fought back to tie the game in the 72nd minute when Shelby Zielke sent a cross into the box which found Courtney Frerichs who was able to redirect the ball past the keeper.
The game winner came late in the first OT when McKenna Adams scored on a corner kick. Story on the Eagle’s site
Neosho Wildcats - 2 (2nd OT) Willard Tigers – 1
With a lineup loaded with seniors, including captain Shelby Murray (#4, pictured on the ball), the Wildcats are off to their best start in recent memory winning their 3rd game in 4 days following a 2-0-1 weekend in Christian County. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Murray turned a pair of defenders before putting her shot past the keeper from 10 yards out. Willard will not win a lot of style points but I was impressed with the positive attitude and hard work of the team and when their midfield general, senior captain Amanda Rozier (#12), picked up a loose ball in the offensive end her quick release pass to Chelsea Wolff on the left soon went into Natalie Waddell, who’s simple touch put senior Ali Applby in front of the net. Applby reliably buried the ball in the 18th and soon it was the Tigers who were pressing the attack, energized by the result.
The second half saw both teams moving the ball into the attack as the Wildcats in particular realized that their ball movement of the 1st half had not gotten the result desired. The result was an increase in opportunities but sophomore Brittany Dunn kept the Tigers in the game with her work in between the uprights. Replacing senior Morgan Ulesich, injured during the Christian County Tournament, the Tigers stayed close and counter-attacked regularly.
It wasn’t until early in the 2nd OT that the Wildcats were finally able to break through for the win, with the golden goal coming from Shelby Murray. Nice recovery from Monday’s PK loss to cross-town rival Joplin, and Neosho positions themselves for a District run.
Bolivar Liberators – 3 Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 1
Sophomore Jonna Welch scored a pair of goals this evening with Danielle Sharp getting the 3rd goal for the Liberators. #22 Hannah McGaughy scored for LogRog at Bolivar
As noted by a Liberator player, Log-Rog was a hard team to score on because they get so bunched up around the goal. A very promising first year team!

Four games into the season the Lady Bulldogs have yet to be scored on. And on Tuesday RHS got a goal from freshman Taylor Banholzer 24 minutes in, which stood for a 1-0 victory at the Bray Sports Complex.
The first half found the Rolla Bulldogs getting the better of the play, possessing the ball a bit more and getting a couple of solid scoring opportunities. McKenzi Payton and Caylin Manary were able to keep the Vikings in it, with strong defensive play and goalkeeping respectively. Midway through the first 40 minutes of play, the Bulldogs were able to finish an opportunity and take the 1-0 lead. VIkings lose a pair in Rolla.
Lebanon Yellowjackets - 4 West Plains Zizzers – 0
The Yellowjackets took a 3-0 lead in the 1st half on the strength of senior Hannah Winkels 2 goals (and 2 assists) on the night. The final goal was scored from the penalty spot in the 2nd half. Zizzers Stung by Yellowjackets.
Camdenton Lakers – 8 Hillcrest Hornets – 1
Junior Latea LaRue and senior Stephanie Kirvan each had three goals and sophomore Ashley Paschel had 2 goals. Hillcrest’s Kamay Freeman had a really nice hustle goal early in the first half to make the score 2-1. Camdenton earns its first Ozark Conference win of the season.
Nixa Eagles – 9 Branson Pirates – 0 Nixa wins its first official conference game on the girls side (the boys are defending Conference Champions). Goals were scored by Rachel Murphy, Jo Pavlowsky (2), Kelsey Haist (2), Halie Owen, Katie Bolton (2), and Chelsea Cole. Assists went to Courtney Frerichs, Kelsey Bartell, Vicki Rische (2), Tatum Mangum, and Ashlyn Robillard.
Catholic Fightin’ Irish – 4 Marshfield Blue Jays – 0
Courtney Devlin scored the first goal in the 36th minute when she knocked a nice cross from Emily Loethen into an open net. Bekah Bade gave the Irish some breathing room in the 46th minute when she knocked a ball from Kathleen Garrison by the keeper inside the right post. Maddy Renner scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute, assisted by Bade, when her shot from 15 yards got by the keeper. Jordan Banasik found the end of a Mandy Bailes corner kick giving Catholic the four goal victory.
The Irish article also notes the next game is Thursday against Ozark, last seen in 2008 getting a 1-0 win for Coach Davidson’s 500th. Hmm, I wonder what the rematch will be like?

Nine Ozark Tigers scored on Tuesday night as they defeated Carthage 10-0. Taylor Jordan scored the game winner 35 seconds into the game on an assist from Alicia Collard. Collard finished the evening with 5 assists.
Jeff City Jays – 1 Camdenton Lakers – 0
The defending District champions opened their newly remodeled soccer facility Tuesday with a strong message, emphasized by their attacking midfielder Kara Steiner in the video below, that they are ready to return to the winners circle. They were led this evening by junior Kara Steiner who scored the lone goal in the 67th minute, finally getting past sophomore goal keeper Sandra Shore with a cheeky little chip from just outside the 6 yard box to the far post. Up to that point, Shore had kept the Lakers close despite being out-shot 6-0 in the first half and 8-1 at the end.
The Jays offense begins with Steiner as she roams between forward and attacking midfielder depending on circumstances. The best opportunities were created when junior Molly Cowley or senior Destiny Galbreath were making runs into the corners, creating space for their teammates and sending quality crosses into the box. Galbreath came closest in the 1st half when Cowley’s cross was brought down at the far post by Jenna Foster and Galbreath smacked a quick shot that Shore stopped at point blank range (pictured above).
The Lakers rely on junior LaTea LaRue who is very strong and tireless, working both ends of the pitch this evening. Assisted by Hayley Baker and Chelsey VanHook in the middle, the Lakers have a strong midfield that will allow them to challenge in District 10. The challenge against the Jays was penetrating a strong defense, featuring a pair of smart and fast central defenders in Katie Evans and Abbey Campbell. With speedy outside backs such as Emily Downing (SBU-bound) and Kelsey Coffman, teams will not score too many counter-attack goals. Stephanie Kirvan will get her share of goals this season but I’d recommend teams spend extra time on their set pieces prior to a game against the Jay’s this season.
The Jays are defending District 10 Champions, defeating Sedalia Smith-Cotton last year. This was their first home game, and first District game, of the season after going 0-2-1 at the SportPort Invitational in St Louis last week.
Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 2 (2nd OT) Carthage Tigers – 1
The Wildcats earned their first win in their first game Monday on a set piece midway through the second overtime period. It was scored by junior Najee Donson (otherwise known as babbiboo32), on a shot just inside the 6-yard box, after a fine cross by #15(?). That’s Najee (#32) celebrating with teammates immediately after scoring the golden goal.
It was a grey, windy afternoon and much of the play was isolated to the downwind side of the field as both teams worked to create offensive opportunities. Carthage got their goal from senior Patricia Marin (#1) midway through the second half when she scored on a direct kick from just outside the box. Logan-Rogersville got their goal from freshman Kadi Leonardi (#16) soon afterwards, leading to the overtime period. Goalies were Phylicia Lewis for Carthage and Kelsay Leingang for Logan-Rogersville.
I have to offer a shout out to the Lady Tigers. With 31 players on the overall roster, the team bench was standing and cheering every play through out the game. I thought I was at a Jonas Brothers concert given the volume and amount of cheering that occurred. That same enthusiasm is spilling over to their new website (add it to your list of links) where they already have 17 positive comments. Well done ladies!

Senior Stephanie Kirvan gets a pair as 6 different girls score in the game against the Class 1 foe. Junior Latea LaRue, and freshmen Kayla Utley and Cassie Hale scored a pair of goals each while junior Jessica Smith and sophomore Ashley Paschel each scored one. Sophomores Jessica Colliver and Sandra Shore shared time in goal.
