Tuesday Ozarks High School Girls Soccer Report

Parkview Vikings – 4
Joplin Eagles – 0
The first goal of the match game from Shelby Stewart on a shot from distance that snuck in, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Later in the first half Melanie Allen crossed a great ball to Jessica Maerz who was running on and struck the ball into the corner netting for a 2-0 lead that the Vikings took into halftime. Stewart scored again in the 2nd, from Loderhose, while Maerz completed the scoring on an assist from Stewart. Website story. Joplin was outshot 14-6, according to its stats, and Eagle freshman Casee Wheeler had nine saves. Joplin falls to 3-7.

Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 0
The Jays got goals from Jennifer McArthur and Kylea Ryser while winning at home against COC and District foe LogRog.

Neosho Wildcats – 1
Carthage Tigers – 0
The Wildcats continue their winning ways in District 12 while the teams establish a new rivalry to match the boys per the Neosho Daily News. In the 20th minute, Shelby Murray notched yet another goal when she got a cross pass from Melanie White.

That, essentially, was the entire game.

Kickapoo Chiefs – 2
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0
The Chiefs controlled much of the game tonight, keeping the ball in the Yellowjackets defensive end. In the 14th minute Marin Gelshiemer scored from about 40 feet on a strong shot that went just under the crossbar and over the keepers hands. Half time 1-0 lead for the Chiefs. The score remained 1-0 until, in stoppage time, Katie Lynn pushed a ball through a crowd of players providing the final margin of victory for the Chiefs.

Glendale Falcons – 9
West Plains Zizzers – 0
The Zizzer’s kept it close for a half, down 0-2 before the Falcon’s offense opened up in the 2nd half. Emily Cline (3G/1A), Jeni Frewin (2G/1A), Molly Brewer (2G/1A), Lindsey Sprouse (1G/1A), Alix Opfer (1G), Emily Jordan (1A), Katie Brewer (1A).

Ozark Tigers – 10
Branson Pirates – 1

Rock Bridge Bruins – 2
JC Jays – 1
Sophomore Sarah Humphrey and junior Kelsey Whittet both scored in the second half for the Bruins (3-4). Nearly five minutes after the Bruins’ second goal, Kinsey Shouse scored for Jefferson City (2-7) on a penalty kick.

Marc VanDover replaced three-year varsity coach Kelly Gates as head Coach of the Bruins, who resigned Friday. Rock Bridge Athletic Director Jennifer Mast said Gates left for personal reasons. The Missourian offers details on the team.

Camdenton Lakers – 4
Waynesville Tigers – 0
Camdenton goals were scored by junior Latea LaRue, sophomore Ashley Paschel, freshman Kayla Utley and freshman Cassie Hale. Sandra Shore was in goal for her fourth shutout of the season. Senior Stephanie Kirvan, junior Jessica Smith and Utley all had an assist in the match.

Rolla Bulldogs hosting the Hillcrest Hornets – moved to Wednesday

Springfield Catholic – 2
Bolivar Liberators – 0
The Catholic girls defeated their COC rival 2-0 on goals from Andrea Parker in the 8th minute and Shelby Hatz in the 18th minute. Rachel Herron assisted on Parker’s goal and Parker assisted Hatz.

Neosho Wildcats Overtake Willard Tigers in 2nd OT
Neosho Wildcats - 2 (2nd OT)
Willard Tigers – 1
With a lineup loaded with seniors, including captain Shelby Murray (#4, pictured on the ball), the Wildcats are off to their best start in recent memory winning their 3rd game in 4 days following a 2-0-1 weekend in Christian County. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Murray turned a pair of defenders before putting her shot past the keeper from 10 yards out. Willard will not win a lot of style points but I was impressed with the positive attitude and hard work of the team and when their midfield general, senior captain Amanda Rozier (#12), picked up a loose ball in the offensive end her quick release pass to Chelsea Wolff on the left soon went into Natalie Waddell, who’s simple touch put senior Ali Applby in front of the net. Applby reliably buried the ball in the 18th and soon it was the Tigers who were pressing the attack, energized by the result.

The second half saw both teams moving the ball into the attack as the Wildcats in particular realized that their ball movement of the 1st half had not gotten the result desired. The result was an increase in opportunities but sophomore Brittany Dunn kept the Tigers in the game with her work in between the uprights. Replacing senior Morgan Ulesich, injured during the Christian County Tournament, the Tigers stayed close and counter-attacked regularly.

It wasn’t until early in the 2nd OT that the Wildcats were finally able to break through for the win, with the golden goal coming from Shelby Murray. Nice recovery from Monday’s PK loss to cross-town rival Joplin, and Neosho positions themselves for a District run.

Sophomore Jonna Welch scored a pair of goals this evening with Danielle Sharp getting the 3rd goal for the Liberators. #22 Hannah McGaughy scored for LogRog at Bolivar

As noted by a Liberator player, Log-Rog was a hard team to score on because they get so bunched up around the goal. A very promising first year team!

Four games into the season the Lady Bulldogs have yet to be scored on. And on Tuesday RHS got a goal from freshman Taylor Banholzer 24 minutes in, which stood for a 1-0 victory at the Bray Sports Complex.

The first half found the Rolla Bulldogs getting the better of the play, possessing the ball a bit more and getting a couple of solid scoring opportunities. McKenzi Payton and Caylin Manary were able to keep the Vikings in it, with strong defensive play and goalkeeping respectively. Midway through the first 40 minutes of play, the Bulldogs were able to finish an opportunity and take the 1-0 lead. VIkings lose a pair in Rolla.

Lebanon Yellowjackets - 4
West Plains Zizzers – 0
The Yellowjackets took a 3-0 lead in the 1st half on the strength of senior Hannah Winkels 2 goals (and 2 assists) on the night. The final goal was scored from the penalty spot in the 2nd half. Zizzers Stung by Yellowjackets.

Camdenton Lakers – 8
Hillcrest Hornets – 1
Junior Latea LaRue and senior Stephanie Kirvan each had three goals and sophomore Ashley Paschel had 2 goals. Hillcrest’s Kamay Freeman had a really nice hustle goal early in the first half to make the score 2-1. Camdenton earns its first Ozark Conference win of the season.

Nixa Eagles – 9
Branson Pirates – 0
Nixa wins its first official conference game on the girls side (the boys are defending Conference Champions). Goals were scored by Rachel Murphy, Jo Pavlowsky (2), Kelsey Haist (2), Halie Owen, Katie Bolton (2), and Chelsea Cole. Assists went to Courtney Frerichs, Kelsey Bartell, Vicki Rische (2), Tatum Mangum, and Ashlyn Robillard.

Catholic Fightin’ Irish – 4
Marshfield Blue Jays – 0
Courtney Devlin scored the first goal in the 36th minute when she knocked a nice cross from Emily Loethen into an open net. Bekah Bade gave the Irish some breathing room in the 46th minute when she knocked a ball from Kathleen Garrison by the keeper inside the right post. Maddy Renner scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute, assisted by Bade, when her shot from 15 yards got by the keeper. Jordan Banasik found the end of a Mandy Bailes corner kick giving Catholic the four goal victory.

The Irish article also notes the next game is Thursday against Ozark, last seen in 2008 getting a 1-0 win for Coach Davidson’s 500th. Hmm, I wonder what the rematch will be like?

Nine Ozark Tigers scored on Tuesday night as they defeated Carthage 10-0. Taylor Jordan scored the game winner 35 seconds into the game on an assist from Alicia Collard. Collard finished the evening with 5 assists.

The Class 2 and Central Ozark Conference foes square off in the Liberators first game of the season. Jodie McFarlen, Sarah Magana, Olivia Buer, and Jordan Halbrooke all scored for the Liberators who improved their record to 1-1 on the young season.

Hillcrest Hornets – 6
Carl Junction Bulldogs – 0
Goals by Alicia Otero (2), Courtney Busby (2), Kamay Freeman and Sarah Rodriguez pushed the Hornets to the win over the small school Bulldogs.

Greenwood Blue Jays – 4

The Tigers welcome their Western neighbor and District foe. The Carthage Press has the story: It was almost a one-woman show against Carthage as Joplin’s Kelsey Sanders scored the first three goals of the game and ended with four. In the second half, when Joplin’s Yasmin Ulloa scored, Rogers said, “well, at least No. 13 (Sanders) didn’t score.”

It was a hat trick for junior forward Alicia Collard (with three goals on three assists from teammate Megan Gunnels) that paved the way to a 4-0 victory for the Ozark Lady Tigers in the varsity match. Sophomore Jackie Wacha volleyed the fourth goal in on a ball served to the back side of the 6-yard box by Collard.

Neosho Wildcats – 6
Joplin McAuley – 3
From the Neosho Daily News: The Lady Wildcats, sparked by the scoring barrage of goals by Shelby Murray, defeated Joplin McAuley, 6-3, Tuesday at Dover Hill Soccer Complex in Joplin. Neosho came out and set the tone early in the game, scoring four goals 20 minutes into the contest and that allowed the team to give coach Steve Schnackenberg his first win as the head girls soccer coach.

Melanie White also scored for Neosho while Arielle Santillian had 2 goals and Jae Stephens had a goal and an assist for McAuley. Former Southwest All-Star goalie Scott Bartkoski’s little sister Ashley Bartkoski earned the win in goal for the Wildcats.

St James Tigers - 2
Laquey Hornets – 1
Dave Roberts offers an excellent piece on the Class 1 programs early season test: In the district tournament championship game last season the St. James and Laquey squads battled to a near-standoff. The game was tied after regulation and, after two overtimes, the contest was still tied and went into shootouts. Finally, St. James edged Laquey in the shootout to capture its second consecutive district title.
The Laquey Lady Hornets return the major portion of that ‘08 squad this spring and they came to the St. James Tuesday for a rematch.
As expected the two teams again locked up in a tight one. As it turned out all the scoring came in the first half, and sophomore forward Amanda White ended up scoring the game-winner on a direct kick with just seconds left in the first half.

Joplin scored the last four goals in the match against Willard. The Eagles’ Rachel Lazenby tied it at 1-1 late in the first half before — with the wind — they got second-half goals from Lazenby, Kelsey Sanders and Lauren Schwab on a late penalty kick.
