Rich Heenan Sets Missouri Saves Soccer Record at Crocker

The Crocker Lions upset the top-seeded Osage Indians Monday night to earn the Class 1 District 9 title. The 3-0 shutout featured goals by Austin Rogers (2) and Chance Davis while keeper Rich Heenan had 10 saves.

For the Lions, a small public school located North of Waynesville, in a town of less than 1500, it marks their 4th district championships in a row, five total along with a Final 4 visit in 2007. All in just 7 seasons of having a soccer program at the school.

An individual record the entire Lion’s program is proud of as well is that of their senior captain, and goalkeeper, Rich Heenan. Rich recently set the Missouri High School soccer Career Saves Record, which the Daily Guide in St Robert captured in early October –

Before Tuesday’s home game against Fair Grove (October 2nd), Crocker’s senior goalkeeper Rich Heenan was on the brink of setting a new state record for career saves – a record held by Waynesville’s Wade Brown since 1991. Sitting idly by at 684 saves before the home match against Fair Grove, Heenan quickly tied the record at 685 before breaking it 14 minutes into the second half. Heenan finished with five total saves in the contest to push the new record to 689.

Crocker won 2-0 as Heenan set the state record in shut out fashion, his twenty-second career shutout.

Boasting a 4.0 grade point average, Rich will graduate at the top of his class in 2013. In his career, Rich has been named to the Mo. All-Central Team twice, earning an overall record of 61-23. And, with nine games left to play, Heenan can only build his saves record into a towering number no goalie may ever match.

Updating that record, here’s where things stand as of today:
Win-Loss record – 14-10
Shutouts – 5
Saves – 250

2011: 15-12 record, 5 shut outs, 289 saves, Team Defensive MVP, Frisco All-Conference team, All-District, Missouri All-Central Team
2010: 21-4 record, 10 shut outs, 126 saves, Frisco All-Conference team, All-District, Missouri All-Central team
2009: 16-3 record, 3 shut outs, 124 saves, Frisco All-Conference team

His Coach, Kevin Zimmerman, offered the following summary:
Rich has led the Crocker Lions to 3 straight district championships as well as 4 Frisco League regular season championships with 2 Frisco League Tourney championships. Rich as been a leader since he took the starting goal keeper spot in his first game as a freshman. Not many freshman even see the field in District Championship games but Rich took all the pressure and has continued it throughout his career. He is a hard worker and has had to do most of his training by himself since Crocker has never really had another goal keeper since he joined the team and took the spot. Rich’s career total now stands at 789 saves.

Wade Brown from Waynesville has held the record with 685 saves since 1991 (MSHSAA records through 2009).

The Lions now advance to Sectionals where their likely foe will be Sedalia Sacred Heart, or whoever wins District 10. The Quarterfinal foe? Probably Springfield Catholic, the road block for every Class 1 program in Southwest and Central Missouri.

From Brent Foster in the Waynesville Daily Guide – High Hopes, Crocker soccer loaded after 16-3 season

Last season the Crocker High School soccer team reached the quarterfinals of the state tournament. But expectations for this year’s squad are even higher as the Lions return 10 starters and 11 seniors from last year’s 16-3 squad.

The plethora of talent that returns for the Lions includes all-district sophomore goalkeeper Rich Heenan. He finished last year with three shutouts and a 1.64 goals against average. Also back for Crocker is junior forward Teddy Zeigenbein. Zeigenbein finished his sophomore season with 24 goals, 13 assists and was an honorable mention all-state selection.
The Lions also return senior midfielder/forward Cody Gibson who had 13 goals last season.

The Lions get their first chance to live up to those expectations when they begin the season Aug. 27 at West Plains.
