Murphey got her 2nd four min into the 2nd half when Moats sent midfield partner Kelsey Haist down the left side. Friday Game Reports
Kickapoo Chiefs – 3
Blue Springs South – 1
The Chiefs got the game-winner in the first half from a reliable source. McKenna Adams was sent into the offensive end with a simple ball over the top of the defense and she buried it when the defense failed to anticipate her attack angle. The second goal was scored by Brittani Baker late in the half when her cross from the right side slipped past the goalkeeper and rolled into the open net. Senior midfield general Marin Gelsheimer scored the third goal 16 minutes into the second half to open up the lead for the Chiefs.
The game was never certain for Kickapoo however, despite controlling the majority of play. Both early goals benefited from keeper errors and as the game progressed, the limited bench the Chiefs have (only 30 players total, 15 on varsity at the moment) led to some sloppy play late. A penalty kick, when a fatigued defender took down a BSS player in the box, was saved by Danzer and a break-away midway through the second half was also rejected when Danzer dove into the play near the top of her box. The goal was scored on a cross to the near post that was flicked over the defender and keeper and tapped into an open net by BSS’s fireplug midfielder, #2.
On a more positive note (I try) the Chiefs showed very good communication and play before fatigue set in. Gelsheimer and freshman Miriam Melugin will go toe-to-toe with the other key midfield teams in the area (Brewer-Opfer at Glendale and Haist-Moats at Nixa) while McKenna Adams and Kaylee Stephens offer the Chiefs strong senior leadership down the middle of the pitch. More later with my District 11 preview early next week.

Willard Tigers – 1 (pks)
The Tigers win their second straight game in PK’s, after getting past the defending District Champion Joplin Eagles last week in a similar fashion.

The Eagle’s soccer blog: Nixa would score the eventual game winner 12 minutes in from Shelby Zielke’s corner kick which found Ashlyn Robillard’s head. It was a beautiful goal to get the Lady Eagles going. Rachel Murphy would get the second goal from a Courtney Frerichs pass. Lauren Moats got the third goal from Kelsey Haist and Murphy ended the first half scoring with Zielke getting her second assist of the half. The second half had freshman Jordyn Hoskins collecting a ball outside the box and hitting a nice shot over the goalie for the 5th goal which was her first varsity goal. Kelsey Bartell made a nice couple of moves to get in the box and was taken down and awarded a penalty kick which she converted. The last goal came about from Kristin Miller winning a ball 25 yards out and heading it to Kelsey Haist who hit a nice low shot from 20 yards out. Miller and freshman Lexi Stagner shared the shutout which was Lexi’s first varsity minutes.
Marshfield Blue Jays – 0
Springfield Catholic – 8
Carthage Tigers – 0
Ozark Tigers – 4
From the Tiger blog: Ozark scored three goals against the wind in the first half and added one more with the wind in the second half. Ozark’s first goal was scored by senior Taylor Jordan (#4 pictured above) in the 18th minute of play after receiving a cross that was played across the six from deep in the right corner by freshman Morgan Davidson. Davidson served a second ball into the six yard box ten minutes later and senior forward Alicia Collard used her body to knock it past the keeper to extend Ozark’s lead to 2-0. Late in the first half, senior Rachel Hayden served a ball from wide on the right to Davidson who received it inside the 18 just left of center. Davidson’s shot curved in the wind, evading the keeper’s hands, and dropped into the left side-netting to give Ozark a 3-0 halftime lead. Five minutes into the second half, senior Megan Gunnels played a square ball from the left touch line that found Rachel Haden alone inside the arc at the top of the penalty area. Haden settled the ball, turned and released a rocket with the wind that blasted past the keeper into the back of the net. The remainder of the game saw several scoring opportunities for the Lady Tigers and many of the younger players were able to get some more varsity minutes, but there were no more goals scored.
Monday Soccer Report – Hornets Open With A Win
Willard Tigers – 1
In an entertaining game that featured a pair of teams that will rely heavily on youth, it was the Hornet’s who struck first this evening. Starting with a 50/50 ball won in the middle by sophomore Shanon Thomas, her midfield partner Raechal Gramm picked up the loose ball and sent senior Courtney Busby down the right side. Busby’s speed and hard work was rewarded when she lofted a cross to the far side that was met by sophomore Cassie Farrell perfectly, heading it past the keeper in the 47th minute.
The Tiger’s, surprised by the athletic and hard tackling Hornets, fought back and put tremendous pressure on the Hornets who calmly responded to the challenge. It was only a 79th minute direct kick (see below) by freshman Miriam Dashtipour that allowed the Tiger’s to continue play. Two scoreless overtime periods led to penalty kicks which were won by the Hornets. Hillcrest scored two out of the first four and while the Tigers had three shots blocked by Hornet’s goalkeeper ? and the final shot went wide, giving the Hornet’s the win on a 2-1 margin.

Friday Soccer Report – Vikings Win Opener, Chiefs Fall in KC
Carthage Tigers – 0
On a cold evening on the turf at JFK Stadium, the Vikings attacked the visiting Tigers this evening much like their namesakes did 1200 years ago. While the Tiger defense was stout and worked hard to keep the attackers at bay, the ramparts were breached once the the Vikings applied their secret weapon – speed! The opening goal came as senior Shelby Stewart, a Missouri State Bear signee, found space and made a direct run down the center of the defense from 40 yards out. Her shot as she entered the box found the lower left corner in the 18th minute and the the walls quickly came down.
Parkview scored three more goals in in the next six minutes to take control of the game. Junior Kelsey Loderhose scored after winning the battle for a ball in the box with the GK and a defender, sr Jessica Maerz (Lynn University) hammered one into the roof of the net after a run down the left side and Loderhose got her second of the game as she ran onto a corner kick from Maerz.
The Vikings got four more in the second, from Maerz, McKenzie Payton, Loderhose and ? for the final margin. The Tigers were able to get into the Vikings box several times during the game, with both Jessica Diaz and Jamileth Henriquez creating problems for the defense but were unable to score. The highlight for the ladies came late when GK Phylicia Lewis stopped a penalty kick that was awarded for a hard tackle in the box.
Nixa Eagles – 3
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0

The Panther’s got the game-winner in the 67th minute on another quick counter attack. The Panther’s are ranked #10 in the preseason poll (Glendale is #9).
Jefferson City Jays – 1
Hazelwood West – 2 (2nd OT)
From STLhighschoolSports: The Wildcats win on a goal with 3 min remaining in the 2nd OT by Suzy Ryan. The Wildcats were clearly the more skilled of the two teams but they only had one goal to show for it in regulation. Kim Hawn put her team up 1-0 with a high rocket over the outstretched hands of Jays keeper Kelsey Vaught with 14 minutes left in the first half.
Jefferson City’s Kinsey Shouse tied the game 1-1 with 19:32 remaining in the second half on a penalty kick.on a low screamer past Hazelwood West goalkeeper Ashton Aubuchon, who dove but had no chance to stop it.
The win helped Hazelwood West improve to 4-0 while Jeff City fell to 3-1.
