Nixa Eagles Win On Moat’s Goal In Final Seconds
#4 Ozark Tigers – 1
#5 Nixa Eagles – 2
Eleven days ago, the Eagles faced off against Ozark for the Central Ozark Conference title, only to fall in PK’s after tying the game with 7 min remaining. It was the fourth District game that the Eagle’s had lost by a goal or in PK’s, pushing them to the 5th seed in the playoffs. A team with all of the necessary components but one that had not ‘found it’s identity’ yet in the words of one father. While not a full butterfly, this chrysalis may be ready to shed the pupa holding it back with tonights win.
The game started quickly and Nixa forced Ozark keeper Paige Hemphill to come out to stop a foray in the 3rd minute. While Nixa was maintaining the majority of the possession, the Tiger’s came close a couple of times in the first 20 minutes, primarily due to a defense that was offering too much time and space in the box. Only Ozark’s inability to get a shot on frame kept the Eagles close. The Tiger’s did break through in the 27th when a strong run down the right side by Hadleigh Jordan, followed by her square ball, created an opportunity for Jordan Taylor in the six yard box. It skipped past as Eagle keeper Kristin Miller came out but Danielle Poivre was waiting at the far post to tap in the loose ball.
The Tiger’s lead held late although Jayme Braun was called upon to clear balls off the line not once but twice, in the 32nd after Kelsey Haist send Courtney Frerich in alone but her shot was parried, and again in the 45th minute following a corner kick.
The Eagles finally broke through, tying the score when Kelsey Haist buried her penalty kick following a foul on Kelsey Bartell in the box on a set piece. The opportunity came about from a hustle play by Moats who chased down a ball on the right side the defense and everyone else thought was going to roll out. Moats didn’t give up on it, kept it in play and ran towards the box when she was tripped from behind just outside the area. The free kick by Haist was followed by the foul and the goal.
The previous result was fresh in both teams minds but this was a new Eagle’s squad as Head Coach Evan Palmer made some changes during the course of the game. The key one was giving freshman Jordyn Hoskins (#2) significant minutes in central midfield during the second half as well as moving Haist into the middle with her. The additional energy and pace created more pressure as the Eagle’s stayed fresher going to the final minutes. The Tiger’s made one final foray in the 77th minute that almost broke the Eagle’s hearts but junior Courtney Frerich’s came off the goal line following a corner kick and chested a loose ball away from danger.
The Eagle’s game winner came minutes later as Kelsey Bartell went high to intercept a ball, freshman Fitzpatrick stepped up to collect the clearance and carry the ball all the way to the box before her cross set up the game-winner.
The Eagle’s face off against Parkview on Wednesday. The two teams faced each other March 30th, in a scoreless game that was decided by penalty kicks, with Nixa falling 4-5 in PK’s.
#3 Kickapoo Chiefs - 7#6 Branson Pirates – 0
Marin Gelsheimer (pictured) scored a pair of goals, the first in the 7th minute as she buried a shot from 22 yards into the side netting and a similar goal in the 18th that skipped underneath a diving goalkeeper. Additional goals by McKenna Adams, Danielle Smulczenski (2), Casey Weitzel and Megan Manes provided the final margin.
The Chief’s get a rematch with the Glendale Falcon’s as a result, on Wednesday evening following graduation ceremonies early next week. Glendale has won the two previous games against Kickapoo, with a 4-2 win in March and 3-1 on Wednesday this week.

Wednesday Games – Glendale Gets Past Kickapoo
Kickapoo Chiefs – 1
In a tale of two halves, the Chief’s took an early lead this evening when senior Marin Gelsheimer’s long-range stop took one bounce before skipping past the goalkeeper for a goal. Gelsheimer received the ball on a give-and-go with Megan Melugin. Catch it on KOLR10 news tonight! The Chief’s continued with their solid effort, creating more opportunities and winning loose balls consistently. It took special effort by Ashley McWilliams and Alix Opfer to stop a pair of close range opportunities in the second half that might have extended the Chief’s lead. The Falcon’s best opportunity came midway through the half when sophomore Molly Brewer put her shot from 12 yard’s out off the crossbar.
The second half started with an increase in the wind speed and the Falcon’s approach to the game. Whether from a tongue-lashing from Coach Roger’s or a look inside, the Falcon’s decided to play up to their considerable talent level in the second half. The crowd rose in anticipation seven minutes into the half when Lindsey Sprouse broke in alone on the goalkeeper, only to see her shot pushed up and over. A minute later Sprouse took a different approach, with a quick long range shot from 25 yards out in the 48th that fell underneath the crossbar and tied the game. The Falcon’s earned a corner kick 8 minutes later and when the ball popped out of a scrum in the box, sophomore Alix Opfer, who was waiting on the far side, buried her shot for the ultimate game winner. The final goal was scored by junior Emily Cline who won a goal kick that didn’t get far due to the stiff wind. She pushed the ball forward and while moving from left to right at the top of the box, pushed her shot to the far left for the final margin.
Glendale finishes second in the Ozark Conference with an 8-1 record, losing only to Parkview. Kickapoo finishes fifth with a 5-4 record. Pictures can be seen here and below.
Glendale faces Catholic tomorrow night, weather dependent, and then will take the weekend off. Kickapoo faces Branson in the first round of the District 11 playoffs on Saturday evening at Parkview.
Ozark Tigers – 4
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0
Megan Jenisch scored in the 8th minute, by header, from Megan Gunnel’s service following a corner kick. Junior transfer Shannon Lacker scored a brace and Gunnel’s completed the scoring. Ozark Tiger’s website.

Missouri Elite FC Sending Six To College Playing Ranks
Six players from Missouri Elite F.C. ’92 girls’ team, coached by Lindsay Paulsell, have made commitments to play college soccer this fall. All the girls have played together for seven years, some even longer, dating back to their elementary school years.
Missouri Elite would like to also recognize our additional seniors graduating this year that had soccer offers but have chosen to pursue academic paths in college. Lauryn Young (Kickapoo), daughter of Larry and Debbie Young, will be attending Missouri State University and majoring in Nursing; Ashlyn Robillard (Nixa), daughter of Keri Robillard, will be attending College of the Ozarks; Stephanie Murray (New Covenant), daughter of Steve and Jo Murray, will be attending Oklahoma State University and majoring in education with emphasis in elementary special ed; Hilary Carr (Kickapoo), daughter of Greg and Sarah Carr, will be attending OTC; Taylor Jordan (Ozark), daughter of Sid and Teresa Jordan, will be attending University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and playing collegiate volleyball.
Elle Aston, daughter of Brian and Angel Aston, will attend college and play soccer for Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. The Drury Panthers are NCAA Division II and compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Elle is a center mid-fielder for Missouri Elite. She attended Republic High School, which does not have a high school girls’ soccer program. She is a multi-sport athlete who played varsity volleyball, basketball, and was a state qualifier in three track events her freshman year. Elle’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: Elle has been our top goal scorer for years but one goal stands out in my mind. Elle collected a ball in the flank and started tearing towards the goal in a match in the TSC Showcase. As she placed the ball so beautifully in the corner pocket just past the keeper with 30 second to go, she turned to her bench, fell to her knees and gave such an amazing shout of accomplishment. It was a real Brandy Chastain moment. Ashley McWilliams, daughter of Brad and Kathy McWilliams, will also attend school and play soccer for Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Ashley is a central defender for Missouri Elite and played for Glendale High School. During her sophomore year of high school McWilliams was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year for Class 2 District 11 and the Southwest Region. She was also a member of the All-Region, All Conference, and All-District first teams. Ashley’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: Ashley is known for her intense tackles of opposing attackers but this one tackle from a Little Rock showcase had to be the best. The attacker got loose and was heading towards goal when Ashley hunted her down, gave an amazingly fluid tackle, came up with the ball and distributed to an Elite attacker which eventually scored. Emelie Schrier, daughter of Chris and Lori Schrier, will attend college and play soccer for Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. The Hendrix Warriors are NCAA Division III and compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Emelie is a defender for Missouri Elite and played soccer for Glendale High School. During Schrier’s Sophomore year, she earned Honorable Mention All-Academic All Conference recognition for soccer. Emelie’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: Emelie is a strong back that is given the task of shutting down attackers each and every time the ball met their foot but in a match in Memphis filled with rain and mud, Emelie stepped up to the attacking plate winning a ball at midfield and taking it all the way to the goal for a score. And if that was not enough, she did it again 5 minutes later. Megan Jenisch, daughter of Andy and Monica Jenisch, will attend college and play soccer for Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. The Missouri Southern Lions are a NCAA Division II program that competes in the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Conference. Jenisch is a central defensive back for Missouri Elite and played for the Ozark Lady Tigers. During high school she was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year in Class 2 District 12 as a sophomore and was also honored as a member of the Southwest Region team and the Springfield News-Leader’s All-Ozarks Girls Soccer Team in 2008. Jenisch was named as a member of the all-conference first team in the Central Ozarks Conference and the all-district second team in Class 3 District 11 as a junior. Megan’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: Megan, known to us as Jenisch, is a force to be reckoned with in the back. She is probably one of the most consistent players I have ever coached so it is difficult to pick just one moment. Therefore, I am going to go with my favorite quote; Being one I can always count on, there comes a time when she miss hits the ball sailing it out of bounds and then I get the silly look from her and a “My bad”. It cracks me up every time! Megan Gunnels, daughter of Mike and Laura Gunnels, will attend college and play soccer for Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. The Westminster Blue Jays are a NCAA Division III program that competes in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Gunnels is a forward for Missouri Elite and played for the Ozark Lady Tigers. During high school she was recognized as a member of the all-district first team for Class 2 District 12 as a freshman and as a sophomore. She also received honorable mention honors in the Southwest Region as a sophomore. Gunnels was named as a member of the all-conference first team in the Central Ozarks Conference and the all-district second team in Class 3 District 11 as a junior. Megan’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: Megan has been our top playmaker for as long as I have coached the team. She is constantly making plays that make me gasp but one stands out in my mind. It was our first State Cup experience and again, it was a big mudfest. Megan collected a ball in the attacking third and placed a brilliant shot in the upper corner. It was just the spark we needed to get going. Alysan Burgbacher, daughter of Shawn and Karla Burgbacher, will attend college and play soccer for John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The John Brown Golden Eagles are a NAIA program currently ranked #23 in the nation and play in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Alysan is the Missouri Elite goalkeeper and went to New Covenant Academy, which does not have a girls’ team. Her senior year, Burgbacher played as a defender for the varsity boys’ soccer team at New Covenant. Alysan also coaches the Missouri Elite 2000 girls’ team and was named the Missouri Youth Female Referee of the Year in 2009. Alysan’s best soccer moment from coach Lindsay Paulsell: This was an easy one for me. We were 4 days away from a huge showcase tournament and our goalkeeper backed out. Rather than scramble for a guest player, Alysan offered to step up and play keeper for the weekend. She was incredible in the net using her vocals as a field player to direct traffic and her keen sense of reading plays to save goal after goal. It was one of the most amazing weekends as a coach to see a true leader emerge. She has been the Elite keeper ever since that weekend.Megan Jenisch and Latea LaRue Sign With Missouri Southern Lions

“MSSU soccer is excited to be adding this group of talented student athletes,” said Wachsman. “As always, our group has high expectations, and I expect these players will bring both experience and depth to our team to help us reach our goals.”
Christian County High School Girls Soccer
A beautiful day and time for a road trip to check out the Christian County squads and how the first week is treating them. First stop Nixa where Coach Evan Palmer was demonstrating some of the moves that held him in good stead as a Missouri State Bear. The Lady Eagles open 2010 coming off of their best season ever in 2009. Nixa won 16 games, blowing past the previous record of 12, scoring 80 goals while giving up only 30, both records as well. The team won its first tournament taking first in the Christian County Tournament while the JV squad was also setting records at 15-3.
Hannah Barber, a sparkplug and All-Star in 2009, is the most significant loss. The team brings back a solid core, starting in the back with junior keeper Kristin Miller, Team MVP in 2009, fronted by senior Maddie Chandler who was Defensive MVP. Jo Pavlowsky and Ashlyn Robillard join Chandler as the senior leaders for this still young squad that includes Regional 1st teamers Rachel Murphy, a sophomore forward and Kelsey Haist, a junior midfielder. Add in Sophomore Abby Turnbull at sweeper and junior front runner Kelsey Bartell and the Eagles are prepared to challenge again this year. The Eagles add sophomore transfer Lauren Moats, who won a Kentucky State Cup with Javanon before moving here when dad Kyle accepted the Missouri State AD job, and freshman Brittany Kirkpatrick to this developing squad. The final game of the season came in the District semi-finals with a tough loss to Glendale. While they won’t surprise anyone this year, I suspect their goals will be higher and they’ll have a solid opportunity to achieve them.
Befitting the weather and a 4th day of practice, the Tigers were the most active squad I’ve seen at this early stage. Working small spaces and transition, this looks like a team on a mission. When last seen, the girls were being shut out by a Chiefs team in the District semi-final that the Tigers had hammered 3-0 two games prior. With seven returning seniors, five of whom will likely be playing college soccer next Fall, the focus is understandable.
Starting with 1st Team All-State sr. goalkeeper Paige Hemphill (SBU Bearcats), sr. Megan Jenisch and jr. Jayme Braun on defense, sr. Megan Stodden and sr. Rachel Haden (SBU Bearcats) in the midfield and sr. Alicia Collard and sr. Megan Gunnels at forward, the Tigers are prepared to go toe-to-toe with with any team in the area. The team has added one transfer, Shannon Lacker, from Ft Zumwalt South in St Louis. There are 9 underclassmen who have another year of experience and the largest senior class I think we’ll find in the region. Will this be their year?

The Jackets finished the scoring with a cross by Hanna Winkel knocked in by Michelle Lindesmith. Joplin goalie Randi Russell once again kept things close.
Kickapoo Chiefs – 3
Camdenton Lakers – 0
The Chiefs got their fourth straight win, shutting out the visiting Lady Lakers while moving to 9-8 on the season. A direct kick by Katy McLain from almost 30 yards out slipped under the crossbar to give the Chiefs the lead in the 18th minute. As has been the case in the three games I’ve seen the past two weeks, the Chiefs calmly went about their business, challenging every ball and slowly wearing down their opponents. With junior Amanda Dominguez (pictured on left) the one constant in the central midfield this season, the Chiefs have been able to move the ball and create their own luck, a welcome change for their supporters following the slow start to this season.
In the 31st, a foul on the left side allowed McLain to put a ball into the box via a set piece. Sophomore Megan Etter ran onto it and got just enough of it to cause the goal keeper difficulty and see it roll across the end line. Etter would almost get a second late in the second half when her header from McLain’s cross rang off the crossbar. It was freshman McKenna Adams that completed the scoring though when she put a ball into the roof of the net from inside the 6 yard box on a cross. Yet another example of the focused approach the Chiefs are taking as they anticipate their rematch with the Glendale Falcons next Wednesday to complete their regular season. Slide Show
Waynesville Tigers – 7
West Plains Zizzers – 0
Ozark Tigers – 2
Bolivar Liberators – 0
The Tigers got goals in the 21st and 51st minute to earn the win. Bolivar put one of the crossbar and Paige Hemphill stopped another late opportunity to preserve the shutout. Ozark goals were scored by Megan Stodden from Megan Jenisch and Brittany Matthews from Megan Gunnels.
Parkview Vikings – 7
Hillcrest Hornets – 0
The Vikings were up 1-0 at the break, with the goal coming from an indirect kick from about twenty-five yards out. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz touched the ball and freshman Kelsey Loderhose hammered the ball into the upper corner of the far-post netting. More
