Katie Pritchard scored 4 goals this evening, reaching a regional milestone. She now has 167 goals for her career, tying her with Anne Felts of the Rolla Bulldogs as the most prolific scorer in Southwest Missouri. Michaele Fulmer of KC O’Hara owns the state record with 204 but Katie’s next goal will place her second in the state record books. She’s pictured from the game against Glendale earlier this season when she scored a hat trick, including the game winner in OT.
In addition, the Tigers completed a 9-0 run through the Ozark Conference this evening with their win over the Vikings. Glendale is their closest competitor, and shared the crown with them last year, but it is the Tigers alone at the top this season. Congratulations to Coach Josh Scott and his squad!
Springfield Catholic – 6
Bolivar Liberators – 0
The Liberators visited this evening and fought hard (that’s senior Lindsy Archer pictured) but were unable to break through the Irish defense. Tara Bailes, playing her first full match without her knee brace, led Catholic with three goals and an assist. Anna DeLong scored twice and Shelby Hatz once, while Natalie Smid had two assists and Emily Kessler had one.
The Liberators had a few good opportunities in the first half (while I was there), the best when freshman midfielder Izzy Mersch sent Archer into the box with a nice diagonal ball. Archer was able to find space in the box and get her shot off but freshman Rachel Scott reacted well to the ball and pulled it in. The rematch will likely be Wednesday May 14th in the District Final. Glendale Falcons – 2
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 1
The wind was blowing hard tonight but the Falcon’s didn’t let it disturb them as they rebounded from an early goal by the Yellowjackets, scoring two against the wind in the first half to eke out the victory over last years vanquishers. Lebanon got on the scoreboard in the 3rd minute when Hanna Winkel won a 50/50 ball in the offensive end and broke past the defense. She shot quickly and caught the keeper off the line and the ball just went in under the crossbar. The Falcon’s evened it in the 14th minute when the defense was caught napping on a corner kick by Jamie Bond. Lindsay Sprouse was unmarked in the box and one-timed her shot into the left side of the net.
In the 23rd minute, it was Karis Hefton who got the game-winner (pictured). She was sent into the box on a fine through ball by senior Megan Garrad, and despited being challenged as she entered the box, Hefton hammered a shot from the penalty spot that blew by the keeper into the roof of the net.
The second half was scoreless, as both goal keepers stepped up tonight. Abbey Roam for the Yellowjackets had to face a half dozen corners kicks as the Falcons used the wind and their speed to get into the corners but she didn’t back down, including one remarkable sequence that finished with her diving at Lou Opfer’s feet to finish it. Rachel Duckworth, for the Falcons, continues her on-the-job training with a flourish. In the 65th, Lebanon counter-attacked from a Glendale corner kick and sent Chelsey LeFors in on goal. Duckworth’s instincts were excellent, coming out quickly and diving for the ball. The rebound was sent back in quickly but somehow Rachel was able to get back up and make the final save, diving once again as the attacker tumbled over her in the box.
Both teams went about their jobs in workmanlike fashion tonight, saving the real intensity for the District playoffs I have to assume. Lebanon needs to show patience in the offensive end while trying to avoid giving up the corner kicks and fouls outside the box. The Falcons are going to have to improve their efficiency on set pieces if they want to avoid these close games. All of it bodes well for the spectators as the District 11 playoffs offer some excellent soccer. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t send a shout out to Lebanon’s Emily Boyer, their sophomore midfielder is out with mono. I missed her energy. Camdenton Lakers – 3 (PKs)
Joplin Eagles – 2
The Lady Lakers defeated Joplin in a penalty kick shootout. Camdenton led 1-0 early in the match when sophomore midfielder Jessica Smith received a pass across the mouth of the goal from senior Meg Manzer. The score stayed 1-0 until the second minute of the second half when Joplin scored on a free kick that got past senior goalie Krista Murphy. The 1-1 score held until 10 minutes left in the match when Manzer was fouled inside the penalty area and senior midfielder Blaire Baker scored on a penalty kick. With less than two minutes left in the match, a Camdenton foul inside the penalty area resulted in Joplin tying the match up 2-2, again via the penalty spot.
After two ten-minute over time periods, the match went to a pk shootout. It was Camdenton’s third of the season and Joplin’s first. The Lady Lakers won the shootout as all five of Camdenton’s shooters made their penalty kick. Camdenton’s Krista Murphy was able to stop Joplin’s third shooter on a diving save that was pushed off the right post and rolled back towards the shooter. Joplin’s fourth shooter scored on a penalty kick which left it up to Camdenton freshman Ashley Paschel to calmly step up and hit her first ever high school penalty kick which ensured a Camdenton victory 5-3.

Three seniors scored goals for the Lady Tigers on Senior Night en route to the shutout over district opponent Neosho. Kristen Glaubitz got two, Erica Hogan got one as did Jessica Bush. Sophomore Megan Gunnels and sophomore Alicia Collard rounded out the scoring for Ozark.

In the first ten minutes of the game, the Lady Eagles had scored two goals; one by senior forward Stephanie Allen and one by freshman out-side midfielder Kelsey Bartell. Both goals exemplified Nixa’s renewed confidence and hunger for goals. The Lady Jays’ Ashley Honeycutt slipped behind the Nixa defense and slotted the ball into the net soon after. Allen got two more in the second half for her hat trick.

Junior Ashley Kerr opened the scoring with a goal in the 36th minute from a long throw by senior Kaitlin Bramel for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. In the second half, Sophomore Jaclyn Standfast scored a penalty kick in the 48th minute, Junior Emily Spooner scored unassisted ten minutes later with a direct free kick and Sophomore Olivia Cox finished the scoring in the 74th minute off a pass from Freshman Ashlee Rightnower. Sophomore Adrian Pogue recorded her 7th shutout of the season.

In a game that was delayed for an hour at the start due to lightning, the Lakers took a 2-0 lead at halftime before seeing the Vikings claw their way back into the game. Details to follow.
Glendale Falcons – 8
Hillcrest Hornets – 0
The Hornets came to Cooper on Senior night for the Falcons and didn’t make it easy for Glendale in the early going. With both teams coming off of important wins on Monday, it was the Hornets who were more focused initially. Glendale has too many weapons however and once they concentrated on moving the ball into the box, Emily Cline was on the left corner to bury a short range shot. It was 2-0 at half before the Falcons finally wore out the Hornets, who lost their GK late in the first half on a courageous save in the box. Stats for the game are Jeni Frewin (1G/1A), Megan Garrad (1G/1A), Emily Cline (1G), Lindsey Sprouse (1G), Emilee Williams (1G), Katie Brewer (1G), Jamie Bond (1G), Ashleigh Dallas (1G), Mindy Moffe (1A).

The Chiefs baseball team ended up moving their game to Parkview due to rain, so I don’t know if this one got played. UPDATE – Senior Katy McClain scored on a header off a cross in the 21st minute to give Kickapoo a lead in the first half. Abby Anderson, McKenna Adams, Megan Melugin, Erica Freiert and Kiley Huslig.

Nixa scored the lone goal of the night in the 70th minute to beat the Lady Liberators for the second time this season. Bolivar falls to 7-4 on the season.

Tara Bailes scored via the spot in the 14th minute put the Irish up 1-0 at the half. Four minutes into the second half Catholic benefited from a Willard own goal to go up by two. Natalie Smid scored a nice goal in the 58th minute when she converted a pass from Maddy Renner. Patsy Middleton brought Willard to 3-1 in the 67th minute when she finished a cross from Janine Bird. Anna DeLong and Emily Kessler rounded out the scoring for the Irish with goals in the 68th and 71st minutes.

The Tigers improved to 9-0 and 5-0 in Ozark Conference with the win over their local foe. They will play at Lebanon on Thursday. The Yellowjackets improved to 4-0 in the Conference with their win over Hillcrest tonight.

The Joplin Eagles got a goal from MSSU signee jr. Kelsey Sanders in the 42nd minute and held on for a 1-0 soccer victory over the Chiefs. Joplin goalie Randi Russell, an MSSU signee, had 11 saves in picking up the shutout. Kickapoo outshot the Eagles 13-7.

Mollie Plocher got the Zizzer’s started via a direct free kick in the 6th minute. Rachel Skelly, assisted by Ashley Harris, extended the lead in the 14th minute while GK Jamie Brassfield made a nice save to push a Marshfield shot wide early in the half. In the second half, Michelle Esterle scored on a breakaway while Beth Kittle also scored before Ashley Harris got two. The Jays got a late goal from Dannyca Mostrom.

Providing a compelling example of the quality available this weekend, the #2 state-ranked STA Stars fell behind in the 6th minute this evening. The #13 ranked Jackson Indians took the early lead on a goal by sophomore Hanna Roach, a well struck ball that found the far side netting from just inside the box. It came as a result of classic Indian play, strong and direct, especially important playing into the strong wind that chilled everyone this evening. While surprised, the Stars were non-plussed and slowly began to impose themselves on the game. With a pair of Notre Dame bound seniors in Ellen Jantsch (pictured heading the ball, #9 in black) and Molly Campbell, the tools were in place.
The Indians were not backing down however, not with 1st team All-State and SEMO signee Chelsea Dale in central defense. It was the 27th minute before the Stars equalized. It came directly from Campbell’s corner kick as she curved a ball into the far side of the net, taking advantage of the wind with her strike. Two more goals in the second earned the Stars the win and the opportunity to face the #14th ranked Oakville Tigers at 11:30 am Saturday.
Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers – 1

The dropping temperatures paled in the face of a difficult loss for the host Chiefs this evening. Missing senior captain Chealsey Russell due to injury, Kickapoo were still able to create opportunities this evening but were once again unable to capitalize. Freshman McKenna Adams, earning extra minutes because of the injury, came close early. Katy McLain’s simple ball sent her into the six yard box, only saved by a courageous dive by the GK. Smith-Cotton, alma mater of Chiefs Head Coach Phil Hodge, were most dangerous when sophomore Jessica Greer found space. In the 75th minute, freshman Tiffany Wehmeyer split the defense with a diagonal ball from the left wing and while GK Jessica McCutcheon alertly came off the line, it was the Chiefs that ended up on the ground after the challenge while Greer picked up the loose ball and slotted it into the open net. Greer and Wehmeyer are a potent combination.

The Lancers, Quarterfinalists last year who lost in OT to eventual champion Zumwalt West, took a 1 goal lead into the half before opening things up in the second half for the final margin.

The surging Falcons faced off against the #12th ranked Jays at Cooper, getting a pair of goals from sophomore Lindsey Sprouse and one from Emily Cline. Senior captains Lorin Opfer and Megan Garrad provided the assists.

My goal is to have a personal interview with each of the players that I am aware of so that we can all learn more about the recruiting process. The Willard Tigers announced that Patsy Middleton is joining Regina Bodine and Jessie Yach at Missouri Valley. The ceremony will be today.
The Joplin Globe offered a a couple of updates for the Joplin Eagles. Joplin High School seniors T.C. Ross and Christian Hernandez will play on a new team next year. Literally. Ross and Hernandez signed letters-of-intent Wednesday afternoon to play soccer at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. The Golden Norsemen will have an NJCAA-sanctioned soccer program for the first time this fall. Back on February 12th, Stephanie Taylor, a midfielder, and her friend, goalkeeper Randi Russell signed letters-of-intent to join the Missouri Southern women’s soccer program
From Central Missouri, Jeff City Helias girls soccer players, Melissa Young and Caty Newbold, signed with Missouri-Rolla and William Woods University. The Jefferson City Jays have two players signing with William Woods today – Katie Denning and Kelsey “george” Sanders.
