Jack Jewsbury Interview with The Back Post

Jack Jewsbury, April 2008

The Back Post is one of two KC Wizards blogs I count on to get a fan’s view of what’s happening up North. Thad Bell runs the blog and like me is an active photographer and has added video work. He caught up with home town boy Jack Jewsbury Friday and discussed the loss to DC United on Wednesday and the friendly with Manchester United on July 25th that was announced recently.

Arsenal Faces Manchester United Sunday, 10am Live in 3D

Big game on Sunday as Arsenal takes on Manchester United. The Gunners sit a point behind United in the race for second place behind Chelsea and a defeat at home would deal a painful blow to Arsenal’s title hopes. The same could be said for Manchester United, which trails Chelsea by a point for first place, with Chelsea still holding a game in hand.

The game also features the debut of SKY 3D. Sky today announced that it will launch Sky 3D, Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel, this April. As part of the final preparations for this ground-breaking launch, Sky will preview the new service with a world first this Sunday (31st January 2010), becoming the first TV company anywhere to broadcast a live 3D TV sports event to a public audience. The Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United will be filmed in 3D and broadcast over the Sky platform to selected pubs around the UK and Ireland, with their customers becoming the first audiences anywhere in the world to experience live Premier League in 3D. The link takes you to Arsenal’s new USA website.

By the way, have you noticed that I maintain a full slate of TV games on the calendar on my home page? Not certain what is showing on ESPN, Fox Sports Midwest or Fox Soccer Channel? Just check the calendar in the right sidebar and you can stay up-to-date. Are there other channels you’d like to see monitored and updated to my calendar? Let me know.

Chelsea vs Manchester United – Today at Coester’s

Join us today at Coester’s for the Champions League (EPL) final. Pre-game is at 1:00 pm with kickoff around 1:40 pm. The game is being broadcast live from St Petersburg and features an all English Premier League final. I’m expecting 30 plus folks to be in attendance, it should be an excellent match between a pair of teams that know each other well and always have something to prove.

Coester’s is located at 631 S Kimbrough, just West of the basketball stadium on the Missouri State campus. It’s a full-service restaurant, smoke free and features 22 big screen HD TV’s, the majority of which will be tuned to the game with the audio broadcast included.

It’s Heating Up In These Parts

Sorry for the delay in posting, I’m a bit hampered right now with what I assume is Carpal Tunnel. Index finger in tingling and the right wrist is quite tender. So rest is the answer and we know its too important a time in the season to sit so…

I’ll be at Cooper this evening to catch the Middle School Final between Pershing and Catholic. Game time is 7:00 pm. Come see the future.

The sectional game between Ozark and Glendale will be played at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 20th, on Cooper field #1 at Lake Country Soccer in Springfield, MO. The time change is due to the fact that Glendale’s graduation ceremonies are that evening at 8:00 pm.

Springfield Catholic heads to Waynesville for a rematch with last years foes, St James. At the more traditional start time of 6:00 pm on Tuesday.

The Springfield Demize host the KC Brass Thursday, I’m looking forward to seeing this years squad. The Demize have opened 0-2 to start the season while KC got their first win yesterday when they split a pair of games in Colorado. So both teams are hungry to get things moving which bodes well for us. That, plus how about this weather, eh!

The All-Star rosters are pretty much set, now it’s just getting the final t’s crossed and i’s dotted while wearing my wrist brace. Hang in there, I’ll have it before the day ends. Plus photos of the Middle School game.

Oh, and I almost forgot – Chelsea takes on Manchester United one last time on Wednesday. The Champions League Final is all EPL this year and it looks like we’ll have the largest crowd of the season out to enjoy the game at Coester’s. I expect 30 plus. It’s a smoke-free restaurant with 22 big screen TV’s folks. If you’re a HS senior, come join us. If your a college player home now, come join us.

And congrats to all of the area seniors who graduate this week!

Three Weeks Left Before Districts?!!

Have to start this week off with a look back – how many of you saw Jack Jewsbury showing off his goal-scoring skills yesterday against the Chicago Fire? Check it out here (Windows Media Player needed) That’s a pair of game-winning assists and a game-winning goal in five games. Sweet.

As the title notes, there are only three weeks of High School play remaining before Districts. The compact nature of the Spring season is something that is always on the Coaches minds and the rain hasn’t helped matters. I’m writing an article for Big O Sports with a deadline today for their May/June issue. We’ll all find out how good I am at forecasting as Districts roll around. So what games this week might play a roll in the outcome? How about
* Monday – Ozark visits Glendale tonight, at Cooper
* Monday – Catholic and Greenwood want private school respect, also at Cooper (5:00 pm V only)
* Tuesday – Parkview host Camdenton while Rolla hosts Lebanon
* Wednesday – Glendale at Catholic, 4:30 pm Varsity starting time
* Thursday – Parkview hosts Kickapoo and Camdenton hosts Lebanon
* Friday – Ozark hosts Parkview, a key District 12 seeding game
I’ll look at this weekends Tournament activity in another post.

The Champions League returns for the first leg of the semifinals, Liverpool fans grieve and fret and it’s because of some profit-mongering Americans. That’s a nice prelude to watching the game on Tuesday – Liverpool vs Chelsea begins at 1:30 pm. On Wednesday it’s Barcelona vs Manchester United. As has been the case this Spring, you can find me at Coester’s for both games. Come join us!

The Missouri State Bears will host the Missouri Southern Lions on Thursday evening at Plaster, start time is 6:30 pm.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this weekend will see the beginning of the Missouri State Cup. Yeah, the U13-U17 Boys teams from Springfield SC will begin competition in St Louis in the early rounds. The defending champs, the U17 boys, have a bye on Saturday but everyone plays this weekend. UPDATE – the Total SC U16 boys are also entered, with a 1st round bye this weekend. More later.
