Kickapoo Chiefs Stake Claim For Top Seed

In a season of surprises and new contenders, a traditional power sent a message this evening that they are not to be counted out, despite losing a fourth starter to injury. On the strength of a pair of goals in a six minute span, the Chiefs evened their record at 8-8 and positioned themselves for the top seed in the upcoming District playoffs. Sophomore Mallory Williams (pictured, in brown) took advantage of a loose ball and an open net in stoppage time at the end of the first half to give the Chiefs the lead. Her game-winner was followed in the 44th minute by fellow sophomore Megan Etter, who found space between a pair of defenders and tapped in a wonderful square ball from Kiley Huslig on the right side of the box.

The Chiefs, who have lost four starters this season -seniors Chealsey Russell, Paige Blotter, junior Abby Anderson and now sophomore Megan Melugin – to significant injuries, have somehow found a way to overcome these hurdles and slowly fight their way back into contention. Slowly but surely they have integrated new players into the system and have found a way to win. That seems to be the key difference for the Chiefs – when they need to win, they have. While not dominating on the scoreboard, they have achieved the necessary results and barring anymore bad luck, have established themselves as the team to beat in District 11. Photo Slideshow

Joplin’s first score came at 13:11 in the second half on a blast by Stephanie Loden. Loden’s score was assisted by Taylor Sharp. The goal gave the Eagles a boost of momentum.

Marshfield Blue Jays – 1
Shelby Hatz led the Irish attack with three goals and two assists, while Anna DeLong scored a goal and added two assists.

Camdenton Lakers – 9
Willard Tigers – 0
‘(The 14 wins) are the most in a season these seniors have ever had,’ said Camdenton coach J.D. Hunter. Hunter said it was quite a turnaround for his club, which lost 4-0 last season at Willard.

Junior Ashley Kerr opened the scoring with a goal in the 36th minute from a long throw by senior Kaitlin Bramel for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. In the second half, Sophomore Jaclyn Standfast scored a penalty kick in the 48th minute, Junior Emily Spooner scored unassisted ten minutes later with a direct free kick and Sophomore Olivia Cox finished the scoring in the 74th minute off a pass from Freshman Ashlee Rightnower. Sophomore Adrian Pogue recorded her 7th shutout of the season.

In a game that was delayed for an hour at the start due to lightning, the Lakers took a 2-0 lead at halftime before seeing the Vikings claw their way back into the game. Details to follow.

Glendale Falcons vs Hillcrest HornetsGlendale Falcons – 8
Hillcrest Hornets – 0
The Hornets came to Cooper on Senior night for the Falcons and didn’t make it easy for Glendale in the early going. With both teams coming off of important wins on Monday, it was the Hornets who were more focused initially. Glendale has too many weapons however and once they concentrated on moving the ball into the box, Emily Cline was on the left corner to bury a short range shot. It was 2-0 at half before the Falcons finally wore out the Hornets, who lost their GK late in the first half on a courageous save in the box. Stats for the game are Jeni Frewin (1G/1A), Megan Garrad (1G/1A), Emily Cline (1G), Lindsey Sprouse (1G), Emilee Williams (1G), Katie Brewer (1G), Jamie Bond (1G), Ashleigh Dallas (1G), Mindy Moffe (1A).

The Chiefs baseball team ended up moving their game to Parkview due to rain, so I don’t know if this one got played. UPDATE – Senior Katy McClain scored on a header off a cross in the 21st minute to give Kickapoo a lead in the first half. Abby Anderson, McKenna Adams, Megan Melugin, Erica Freiert and Kiley Huslig.

Nixa Eagles – 1
Bolivar Liberators – 0
Nixa scored the lone goal of the night in the 70th minute to beat the Lady Liberators for the second time this season. Bolivar falls to 7-4 on the season.

The star of the game was Shelby Murray, who recorded a hat trick — three goals — in the game.
Murray scored twice in the first half, while Amelia White added another goal to give the Lady Cats a 3-1 lead over the Lady Blue Jays. via Neosho Daily News

Willard Wildcats – 1
Tara Bailes scored via the spot in the 14th minute put the Irish up 1-0 at the half. Four minutes into the second half Catholic benefited from a Willard own goal to go up by two. Natalie Smid scored a nice goal in the 58th minute when she converted a pass from Maddy Renner. Patsy Middleton brought Willard to 3-1 in the 67th minute when she finished a cross from Janine Bird. Anna DeLong and Emily Kessler rounded out the scoring for the Irish with goals in the 68th and 71st minutes.
