The game-winning goal was scored by Hannah Winkel with 5 minutes left, assisted by Emily Boyer. The Yellowjackets accomplished step one in their effort to return to the District Final’s for the 3rd straight year. Thursday’s game against Camdenton will be the next test, while Jeff City looks to get past Rolla and Waynesville next week.

The Lakers went up 5-0 in the first half before Parkview scored a goal in the 38th minute. Junior Latea LaRue scored 3 goals and had 2 assists in the contest. Freshman forward Kaylay Utley scored 1 goal and had 4 assists. Freshman Cassie Hale scored 1 goal and had 1 assist. Sophomore Sabrina Bartley, Junior Jessica Smith and Senior Stephanie Kirvan each had a goal as well. Camdenton is now 14-3 overall and 4-1 in Ozark Conference play.

Branson Pirates – 3 Willard Tigers – 1
Branson scored fifteen minutes into the match when Neva Raschel’s free kick went off the crossbar and was headed in by Emily Joplin. The score held until stoppage time in the first half when Ali Appleby broke free and beat Bri Ford to tie the score going into half. Both teams moved the ball in the second half but Jordan Gattis got the game winner with a nice header back to the far post in 63rd minute. Branson continued to pressure and got its third goal from Maggie Charland off a one time hit in the 79th minute.
The win was the first ever Central Ozark Conference win for the Branson Pirates. Congrats ladies! Branson improved to 4-11-1 with the win.
Bolivar Liberators – 5 Nixa Eagles – 4
The Liberators knocked off their Central Ozark foes with a goal by freshman Sara Magana (28), who leaped into the air near the penalty spot to meet Jonna Welch’s (excellent cross from the right side, nodding it into the net beyond the reach of the keeper. Beautiful goal, scored in the 77th minute, to negate a comeback by the Eagles from a 4-2 halftime deficit.
Both teams are very athletic and committed, it was a lively game that saw the attack go back and forth throughout the match. 2-2 only 20 minutes into the game, Bolivar went on to score two more to gain the early advantage. A shot by Jonna Welch from the right side just outside the box somehow fell under the cross bar, and a throw-in by Julie Magana (23), done via the flip and near the endline, worked to perfection as she put it to the near upper corner where it was easily knocked in when the keeper was unable to handle the hard throw.
Both teams came out hard in the 2nd half but it was the Eagles that began to put together the passes necessary to maintain possession and create opportunities for themselves. The first came from the penalty spot, following a foul in the box. Taken confidently by Kelsey Haist, it energized the Eagles further and they continued the attack. The 4th goal was a beauty, nodded into the net at the far post by (18) from Haist’s cross near the right endline. Haist got to the spot by picking up an attempted clearance and then battling through 3 defenders, pushing the ball past a second attempt to stop her in the box, and then delivering the quality ball.
Bolivar’s goals were scored by Jody McFarlen (PK), Hannah Harris, Julie Magana, Jonna Welch, and the game winner in the 75th minute by Sarah Magana.
Bolivar and Nixa both have teams prepared to compete. The Liberators just want to go forward, and have the youth and energy to do that all night. Nixa appears poised to join Glendale, Kickapoo, Ozark and Catholic as a program that wants to move the ball on the ground and create goals. When they spread the field tonight, they were able to do just that. Bolivar’s pressure, and some early season injuries, meant they weren’t able to get the job done in the time available to them tonight. I’m looking forward to seeing both teams several more times with the playoffs only a month away now.

Janessa, Honorary Captain, Mt Home Bombers

Janessa, a fourth grader in the Mt Home (AR) school district is a big soccer fan. She’s battling cancer and goes to Little Rock every 2 weeks for chemo but wanted to see a game. The good weather meant today was the day – Janessa was an honorary captain and the team presented her a signed ball. The Zizzer’s offered a jersey signed by all the players (pictured) as well. Janessa handled the the coin toss (we lost the toss and mtn home deferred and let us have the choice anyway – good sportsmanship). It was a big night for Janessa and a nice win for the Bombers.

Goals were scored by Stephanir Kirvan, Latea LaRue, Jessica Smith, Haley Baker, and Kayla Utley. Smith and Baker each had an assist while Ashley Paschel had two assists on the night.
A pair of significant results tonight, with Ozark proving last year was no fluke and the Zizzer’s getting an early Ozark Conference win over the Joplin Eagles!

Scoreless until the second half when first Andrea Parker scored for Catholic, followed by Megan Gunnels goal for Ozark. 90 seconds into OT, Alicia Collard got the golden goal for Ozark. The Tigers website has a story
West Plains Zizzers – 2 Joplin Eagles – 1
The Eagles scored first, and early, when senior Kelsey Sanders put Joplin ahead in the 17th minute. The Zizzers responded via their tricky freshman forward, Tasha Ugbah in the 26th. They called on senior captain Mollie Plocher for the game-winner, which came via a direct kick from 22 yards out in the 57th minute. Wow!

The Bulldogs give up their first goals of the season, having shut out their prior 4 opponents, while scoring 2 of their own in their first Ozark Conference game of the season. Abbey Anderson, Ericka Freiert and Amanda dominguez scored for the Chiefs, Megan Melugin had 2 assists. Rolla falls to 1-1 in the Ozark Conference, Kickapoo is now 2-0 in the Conference. Jody McFarlen signs NCAA commitment papers with Missouri State Bears
Missouri State women’s soccer coach Rob Brewer announced the addition of nine commitments to the 2009 squad Wednesday. Grace Cross, Katelyn Frederickson, Becky Handley, Claire Hulcer, Megan Jaskowiak, Jody McFarlen, Chelsea Voet, Rachel Weimer and Nia Williams have committed to the Bears and will be eligible to compete in the 2009 season.
Jody McFarlen • M • Bolivar, Mo. • Bolivar HS
McFarlen spent her freshman and sophomore seasons as a starter in the midfield for Bolivar High before electing not to play for the Liberators as a junior in favor of playing for a boys club team. McFarlen has qualified for state meets in tennis and track during her high school career. Her father, Randy, played minor league baseball in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Cross will join older sister Christine on the MSU roster in 2009 after enjoying a stellar four year career at Lee’s Summit North High for coach Tim Richardson. A two-time all-state honoree before missing her junior year due to injury, Cross’s teams won conference and district titles her freshman and sophomore seasons, finishing fourth in state during her sophomore campaign and combining to go 39-6-2 overall and 23-0-1 in conference play over those two seasons.

Frederickson begins her senior season as a two-year starter for a Nerinx Hall team that has accumulated 42 victories against just six defeats with her in the lineup. The 5-6 forward/midfielder has earned all-state, all-metro and all-conference in each of the previous two seasons.
Becky Handley • F • Wildwood, Mo. • St. Joseph’s Academy
Handley is a 5-6 forward who enters her senior season with 36 goals (including nine game winners), 13 assists and 85 total points to her credit through three seasons of prep soccer. Handley’s teams have gone a combined 61-11-3 the last three seasons and have finished no worse than third in the state tournament during her career. Handley has been an all-conference pick in each of her three seasons as a prep and earned all-state and all-conference honors the last two years.
Claire Hulcer • D • Ballwin, Mo. • St. Joseph’s Academy
Hulcer enters her senior season at St. Joseph’s Academy as a three-year starter for a team that has claimed district and conference championships each of her previous three seasons. The 5-7 defender was an all-conference selection as a sophomore and a junior, while her team has combined to go 61-11-3 in her three previous seasons and has finished no worse than third in the state tournament during her career.
Megan Jaskowiak • M/F • Belleville, Ill. • Althoff Catholic HS
Jaskowiak enters her senior season as a team captain for an Althoff Catholic squad that is coming off a runner-up finish at the state tournament in 2008. The 5-7 midfielder/forward was an all-state and all-area choice as a junior, while earning all-area and all-conference honors her first two seasons.
Chelsea Voet • GK • Omaha, Neb. • Millard North HS
Voet enters her senior season at Millard North High as a two-year starter with 25 shutouts to her credit in 39 games. As a junior, she led the state of Nebraska with a 0.37 goals against average while helping the Mustangs to an 18-1 record and state championship. She earned second-team all-state honors last season and honorable mention accolades as a sophomore in 2007. That season, Voet had 135 saves and a 0.75 GAA while her team made it to the state semifinals.
Rachel Weimer • F • Bonner Springs, Kan. • St. James Academy
Weimer is a four-year starter at forward for St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan., where she has amassed 77 goals and 48 assists through her first three seasons to become the school’s all-time leader in both categories. Last season, St. James won a state championship with a 17-3-1 record. Weimer has been named all-state, all-metro and all-county each of the last two seasons.
Nia Williams • D • Roeland Park, Kan. • St. James Academy
Williams enters her senior season as a starting defender for a fourth year for St. James Academy in Lenexa, Kan. She was honored as the conference defensive player of the year for the state champions last season, as well as earning all-state, all-metro and all-county honors. Williams was all-state and all-conference as a junior as well, and earned her first of three consecutive team MVP awards as a freshman in 2006.
