McCutcheon (25) congratulates Strunk on his goal

Kickapoo Chiefs – 6
Branson Pirates – 0
In the first of three District 11 games they will play this week, the Chiefs scored three in the first half and a pair in the second to seal the win. The game winner was scored by Josh McCutcheon in the 18th when he challenged for a ball outside the box and powered it into the side netting. The Chiefs got a pair in the final minute of the first half from Aaron Strunk. The first came when McCutcheon lifted a soft ball over the defense that Aaron was able to run onto and as he eluded the first defender he slipped the ball past the keeper and a 2nd defender. On the ensuing kickoff, some confusion in the Branson defense led them to stop playing and Strunk was credited with the ensuing goal.

The second half was a bit more open and as the Pirates were able to move the ball outside to the wings more effectively. The Chiefs clamped down however, while scoring a pair. Elliott Williams got his on a run into the box and McCutcheon got a 2nd on the evening as he slid one through a crowd. UPDATE – I see Nate Lavoy scored while I was moving from the pitch to my car

Camdenton Lakers host Sedalia Smith-Cotton

Camdenton Lakers – 7
Sedalia Smith-Cotton – 1
In a game that indicates how strong the competitive juices flow between these teams, despite the move out of District 9 by Camdenton, these Central Missouri squads went at each other hard from the opening kick off. After seeing the Lakers a 2nd time now this season, the key element I see is a willingness across the entire team to go to the ball and challenge every play. It’s like watching a high-pressure EPL game as they force their opponents to play quickly or defend their attack.

The Laker’s got the lead in the 18th minute from a corner kick when #2 Drew Whitney, redirected the ball that fell to him and just over the outreached arms of the goalkeeper. Smith-Cotton thought they had tied the game in the 32nd minute only to see the goal called back for offsides.

I headed home at halftime, having stopped on the way home from a business meeting in Columbia. The second half featured a hat trick by Rayder Bennett, a brace from Jeff Moffitt and one by Nate Buttrum.

Sedalia graduated 10 starters on last years District Championship team but have a pair of talented midfielders leading the way. We’ll check back in on District 9 later this season.

9/8 Southwest Missouri High School Soccer Report

Crocker Lions visit Central Bulldogs
Crocker Lions – 6 (2nd OT)
Central Bulldogs – 5
It took 20 seconds to finally settle this one, in the 90th minute, as the Lion’s took the ball straight down the middle of the Bulldog defense from the restart of the final overtime period. It was #21, Sophomore A.J. Imilkowski, who finished what looked like a textbook one-touch passing drill with #15 as the Lion’s finally silenced Central’s vocal crowd Monday at Cooper #2.

Imilkowski had two goals and an assist for the Lions while sophomore Jessie Tart tallied two goals, sophomore freshman Teddy Zeigenbein had a goal and assist, sophomore Cody Gibson a goal and junior Tjalling Bosker an assist.

Cassville Wildcats – 3
Greenwood Blue Jays – 1
The Wildcats played their second straight game against a Class 1 District 6 opponent and earned the win again. Greenwood had the lead at the half on a pretty goal from Cory McCoy. He headed a nice cross from Chris Aiken into the upper 90 on the left side. In the second half, Uziel Franco scored after a nice turn to get free of the defense. He came in all alone and the goalie was hung out to dry. The Wildcats Jesus Rivera scored the next two goals off feeds from Franco. The eventual game winner redirected into the lower right corner from directly in front of the keeper. The second, about five minutes later, a chip over the charging goalie. Very few scoring chances for Greenwood the entire game. Well played, clean game. Very entertaining. Game report provided by OzarkSports.net

Joplin Eagles – 4
Nixa Eagles – 0
A pair of early goals in each half by Joplin, along with several missed opportunities for the Nixa Eagles, gave Joplin the win against their former District foes.

About 4 and a half minutes into the second overtime, the Zizzers received a Free Kick from about 30 yards out. Klay Norman sent a ball into the box that hit off a Poplar Bluff defender and found its way to Nathan Moore, who turned and fired in the game-winner. Nathan Boys scored the 1st one for the Zizzers while Sean Lawrence scored for the Mules.
