Oct 4th – College Heights Stuns Greenwood

Brantly Gossett, College Heights Cougars (2013)

Greenwood Blue Jays – 1
College Heights – 2
at Greenwood, junior Evan Belk’s strong play in goal and the Jay’s inability to score from the penalty spot gave the Cougars the first win in six years. The Cougar’s, who shared control of small school soccer in Southwest Missouri with Greenwood prior to the arrival of Catholic’s squad, took an early lead when a defensive mistake allowed Dagen Worthington Brantly Gossett to break in on goal unmarked. That goal in the 10th minute held up until the 57th minute when Stuart Beezley added to his school career record as he ran across the face of the goal area before putting his left-footed shot to the near upright (video).

The goal came after a PK opportunity for Greenwood that was stopped by Belk, as the Blue Jays came out in the second half re-energized and determine to earn the win on their home field. College Heights played strong team defense in front of their keeper while also generating several break aways. The Cougar’s got the game-winner in the 59th minute when Dalton Zarrabi buried a penalty kick for College Heights into the upper 90.

From that point on it was a countdown for the Cougars who held on for the win. There are several videos from the 2nd half available on my Youtube channel along with an interview with goalkeeper Evan Belk. If I was impressed going into that interview, I came away more so. Check it out.

Monett Cubs – 0
Central Bulldogs – 3
at Monett, the Cub’s are coming off a long weekend at Willard where they finished 4th.

Belle – 0
Crocker Lions – 10

Camdenton Lakers – 4
Marshfield Blue Jays – 1
Goals by Nick Huey, Blake Addington and a pair by Jeron Sinclair propel the Laker’s (get it) past the visitors.
at Camdenton, the Lakers will hope to begin another winning streak with the small school visitors

Camdenton LakersKai Raymer checks in on the District 10 defending champions in Camdenton, Mo. — After district title, Lakers hungry for more

The Camdenton High School boys’ soccer team had the best season in program history in 2009, beating Rolla for the first time which also gave the Lakers their first district title. As a senior this season, Nick Huey doesn’t want to settle for anything less. He’s ready for another – and better – postseason run in his final stint as a Laker.

“It’s something that (had) never been done before, so everyone wants to top that as best we can,” Huey said after practice last week.

Camdenton went undefeated (9-0) in the Ozark Conference last season, ultimately losing to Columbia Hickman in sectionals. But league and district championships have given returning players a confidence boost.

Branson Pirates – 2
Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 3
Only the JV played tonight folks, in a steady rain that soon became a downpour which led to the cancellation of the Varsity game. The score above is for the JV, with the Wildcat’s scoring the first goal in the 21st minute when captain #7 got down into the right corner. His cross went through the GK’s hands and fell to #17 at the far post who buried it reliably.

New Covenant Warriors – 3
Greenwood Blue Jays – 0
Via an NCA fan – First goal off an impressive header by Dylan Corbett early in the second half. Brett Murray extended the lead via a PK soon after.

The Warriors ended the game with a late goal by Dylan Fieker. This was a District 6 game, so early advantage to the defending champs.

Glendale Falcons vs Parkview VikingsGlendale Falcons – 1
Parkview Vikings – 0
At Glendale, in a light but growing rain, the Falcons played some pretty soccer but were only able to score one as the Vikings appear to have their strongest team since 2005 when these two went at each other. Their blue collar approach and preparation gave them opportunities but in the end the Falcon’s got the goal they needed. It came in the 60th minute from a direct kick by Devon Newport, into the upper 90, after his brother Ian was pulled down just outside the box. District 11 is going to be tough!

Camdenton Lakers – 7
West Plains Zizzers – 1
Drew Whitney scored the first goal of the season for the Laker’s around the 25 min mark and the wake only got larger. Goals from Rayder Bennett (2), Jeron Sinclair (2), Jeff Moffitt and Jeff Dorhauer provided the final margin. Jason McAllister got the late goal for the Zizzers, from Anthony Holt.

Marshfield Blue Jays – 1
Ozark Tigers – 2 (OT)
From the Marshfield Jays website: The Tigers got the first goal of the game, off a corner kick with just 10:41 left on the clock. The Jays just played with more determination. Then with the clock in stoppage time, Willis Zirschky answered Ozarks corner kick with one of his own. He sent the ball in to the far post and Ethan Jernigan was there to head it into the back of the box. This brought the game to a tie with just seconds left in the half. The fans went WILD!!!

Rolla Bulldogs – 11
Crocker Lions – 1

Willard Tigers – 10
Aurora Houn’Dawgs – 0

Waynesville Tigers – 3
Hillcrest Hornets – 0
Goals were scored by Eric Iverson (30:31 first half) assisted by Gehrig Haberstock, Eric Iverson (1:32 second half) unassisted, and Tim Collier (20:12 second half) assisted by Jeff Brayman. Wade Holcomb had the shutout for the tigers.

Joplin Eagles – 6
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0
The Eagles got a pair of goals each from junior Max Duncan and Jordan Adame with Geovanni Lara and Miguel Farias completing the scoring.

Thomas Jefferson – 10
Columbus (KS) – 1
Alex Motch had a fine night with 6 goals, almost matched by his teammate Alex Oserowsky who had 4.

Webb City Cardinals – 1
College Heights – 0
The Cardinal’s squeaked by their small school neighbor to the South, Austin Doran getting the game-winner.
