    Willard Tigers Tournament

Willard Soccer Fall Classic: Bolivar Liberators vs Hillcrest HornetsBolivar Liberators – 2
Hillcrest Hornets – 1
Elation for the Liberators as Bradley Stillwagon (pictured in white, defended by Radu Mariuta) scores 2 goals in the final 3 minutes of regulation to defeat the Hornets. The Hornet’s took the lead in the 53rd on some brilliant combination play, with Ballhorn winning not one, but two 50/50 balls, a quick no look pass into the path of Bryce Collier who’s run and shot was deflected, with Michael Freeman following the play and finishing the rebound.

The initial goal by Stillwagon was from Kyle Slagle’s free kick from the left side, headed down and deflected past the keeper off of a defender in the 77th. In the 78th, a long flip throw by sophomore Matt Magana gave Stillwagon a second opportunity he finished confidently. The assist by Magana gave him 35 in 1 1/2 years and ties the career record at Bolivar.

Willard Soccer Fall Classic: Cassville Wildcats vs New Covenant WarriorsCassville Wildcats – 3
New Covenant Warriors – 0
These two teams met September 6th, with the Wildcats earning a close 3-2 win after which the Warriors ran off a string of 8 straight wins until losing by a goal to Warrensburg last week. So there was plenty of pride at stake in this burgeoning rivalry. The difference today was the play of goalkeeper Michael Rush (pictured, stopping Jeremy Weimer) who stopped anything that came into his box today, regardless of the hazards. The Wildcats got a pair of goals from Uziel Franco, one of the top forwards in the region, as well as a PK goal by Omar Valenzuela.

Webb City Cardinals – 2 (at halftime)

Saturday’s schedule has Bolivar vs Cassville as well as Hillcrest vs NCA at 8:00 am. At 10:00 am Willard vs Monett and Logan-Rogersville vs Webb City (I”m guessing on these last two, based upon the half time score of the Cubs vs Cardinals). 3rd place game at noon, Championship at 2:00 pm.

Parkview Vikings vs Rolla Bulldogs
Rolla’s Tyler Sinnott defended by Darren Shaw, Parkview

Parkview Vikings – 2
Rolla Bulldogs – 0
Goals in the 27th minute by Tim Griffin and in the 77th minute by Morgan Holt propelled the Parkview Vikings to their second Ozark Conference win Tuesday afternoon. UPDATE – found my game notes!

This was the kind of game I really enjoy, with a pair of well-matched teams that offer a great opportunity to see leadership exhibited. A pair of teams that I would call blue-collar, each led by a forward who garners the majority of the attention.

In this game, the Viking’s Tim Griffin led the way with a pair of plays that showed his individual skill in scoring the game winner and assisting on Morgan Holt’s late goal. The goal came as the Vikings transitioned from a Bulldog attack, with the final pass coming from Jared Moore, while Griffin collected the ball and quickly turned his defenders before slotting a ball to the near post. The assist as he broke down the left side and then into the box before calmly sending a square ball through the 6 yard box to the onrushing Holt who slid at the far post to redirect the ball into the net.

More importantly for the Vikings is their calm under pressure. Every year I am gratified to see players who are growing into their roles and responsibilities. For the Vikings, seeing the work that Darren Shaw and Matt Medley are doing running the midfield, while Dane Knapp sweeps behind them, points to the core every team needs. And that blue-collar comment? Rolla’s best opportunity was cleared off the line by midfielder Holt early in the game.

Rolla will be well-prepared for the playoffs, with a core of seniors leading the way, including Sinnott, but its Andrew Chism and Justin Schubring that will pull the strings, with junior Cody Martin also making a significant impact. Late yellow cards, including to Coach Mike Howard, point to the importance of these Conference games however. A few more opportunities under fire will help forge a young defense in front of senior Stephen Moorkamp and offer more fireworks at a future meeting between these two teams.

Glendale Falcons – 4
Camdenton Lakers – 0
Goals by Devon Newport (2), Alec Martinez and Patrick Baltz. The Falcons record is now 6-0, 2-0 in the Ozark Conference.

Carthage Tigers – 10
Webb City Cardinals – 0

Joplin Eagles – 8
Hillcrest Hornets – 0
Senior Blake Aggus got the game-winner as the Eagles get a District win.

Bolivar Liberators – 4
Marshfield Blue Jays – 2
A difficult but gratifying District and Conference win for the Liberators it sounds like. A pair of goals and an assist for sophomore Matt Magana.

Waynesville Tigers – 3
West Plains Zizzers – 0
Ben Moore, from Eric Iverson, in the 12th minute made the difference in the Ozark Conference match up

Catholic Fightin’ Irish – 6
Rogersville Wildcats – 0

Willard Tigers – 3
Ozark Tigers – 1
Senior Marian Lup got all 3 goals for the Tigers (must be the shoes Marian). Game winner came in the 22nd after Ozark had tied the game in the 18th.

Greenwood Blue Jays – 8
Thomas Jefferson – 1

Kickapoo Chiefs – 5
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0
The Chiefs got goals from 5 players in the Conference win

9/9 Ozark Conference High School Soccer Report

Kickapoo Chiefs host Camdenton Lakers

Kickapoo Chiefs – 2
Camdenton Lakers – 1
In a hard fought battle, the two Conference rivals went toe-to-toe and both came away disappointed tonight. The Chief’s goals were both scored by junior Skyler Russell as Kickapoo’s new 4-3-3 formation brought them the offensive output needed to win the game. Russell’s first goal was scored in the 25th minute as he moved across from his wing forward position and challenged for a ball. Upon winning it, he quickly turned back before unleashing a 25 yard shot that skipped past the GK’s outstretched arms.

The Laker’s surprised the Chief’s as well, coming out early in the 2nd half and getting a game-tying goal in the 49th minute from senior forward Jeff Moffitt. It stayed knotted at 1-1 as both goal keepers played very well, with junior Ryan Moriarty for the Laker’s making some fine reaction saves in the box including one against Ryan Moses from 6 yards out. Kickapoo’s Chris Tombridge patrolled 40 yards beyond the endline for the Chief’s in blunting several counter-attack efforts by Camdenton as well as a point blank shot by Rayder Bennett.

The game winner was a beauty, scored in the 53rd minute when senior Ryan Moses sent a 50 yard ball into the Laker’s goal box. Russell ran under the ball, shielding the defender as he positioned himself to control the ball. Or so the defender thought, as the left-footed volley blew past the goal keeper from 15 yards out. Russell also attempted a bicycle later, as the Lakers were caught napping on a throw-in, but the keeper responded to the challenge.

Parkview Vikings – 5
Hillcrest Hornets – 1
Bryce Collier scored unassisted for Hillcrest, earning them the early lead. Parkview came back however with five goals to earn the win. Tim Griffin had 3 and Jared Moore and Vance Marlow each added a goal.

Lebanon Yellowjackets – 2 (PK’s)
West Plains Zizzers – 1
In a game that went to PK’s following two OT’s, the Yellowjackets prevailed at home. Ethan Hunt scored for the Zizzers, #7 for the Yellowjackets – Lebanon Senior Kyle Strief, defender, scored on a header off of a corner, also scored the winning PK.

Rolla Bulldogs – 3
Joplin Eagles – 2
Rolla scored first with a goal from senior Tyler Sinnott. Sinnott, who was assisted by senior Andrew Chism, scored in the first minute of the game. They paired up again in the 22nd minute before Max Duncan got Joplin within one in the 55th and Samuel Yount tied the game. Rolla’s Cody Martin got the game winner in the 65th minute. From the Joplin Globe story:

“Rolla is one of the best teams in the conference,” Miller said. “You have to play with them every minute of the game. We just weren’t there in the first half.”

Meanwhile, the Glendale Falcons were on the road to Kansas City where they are taking part in the Kansas-Missouri Classic where they defeated the Washburn Rural Junior Blues, 2-1. Devon Newport (1G/1A), Ryan Squires (1G), Graham Basecke (1A), Patrick Baltz (1A).arab tranny
