PDL Soccer: Rapids U23 Get Late Winner vs Demize

PDL Soccer: Springfield Demize host Colorado Rapids U23Colorado Rapids U23 – 3
Springfield Demize – 2
The game opened quickly Saturday night, when the Rapids Jacob Schmoker snuck a quick one past the Demize inside 5 minutes. The Rapids struck again in the 27th minute when Jeremy “JT” Howlan responded to being dispossessed in the offensive end by pursuing the defender and winning the ball back. His quick pass to his fellow front runner created a 1v1 opportunity for Schmoker who buried it to the far side.

The Demize were creating opportunities of their own although only one was on goal versus five for the Rapids in the half. Springfield escaped late in the half when Howlan was taken down in the box for a penalty kick, a shot he pushed wide just before the whistle for the half.

The PK led to the ejection of Eduardo Conde leaving the Demize a man short to start the second but 2-0 leads can be hard to maintain. Springfield came back to tie the game on goals by Israel Bisoni and Danny Foerster, both on assists by Omar Shoucair. Unfortunately, they went down another man when Javier Melon Gil was ejected for conduct. That opened the way for Sam Charles’ goal in the 80th minute, from a scramble in the box, that gave the U23s the win.escort servies

PDL: Springfield Demize Open Season Tonight Against Rapids U23

Springfield DemizeThe first home game will feature the Rapids U-23 squad, a PDL team based in Boulder CO.

The game is being played at the Cooper Soccer Complex, field 1 and tickets are $5, children under 6 are free. Game time is 7:30 pm and the forecast looks good.

The team is an international squad with professional aspirations. Games can match the quality of the Division 1 games we enjoy during the Fall and the team includes a good mix of local boys as well. I’m especially looking forward to cheering for Chris Murphy (Glendale 2004/Central Arkansas), Danny Curro (Nixa 2007/Avila University) and several recent graduates including Robbie Curtis (Ozark 2008/Lincoln Memorial) and Kyler Temple (Kickapoo 2008/Drury) along with Erik and Lane Chapman (Northeast Oklahoma and Kickapoo respectively). In addition, Eduardo Conde and Brett Thomas (2007 leading scorer) return.

The PDL is part of the United Soccer League and is equivalent to Single A baseball in that there are three more tiers to make it to the Majors, or Major League Soccer in particular. Unlike baseball, soccer is an equal opportunity employer and our local boys are competing in a national tournament known as the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The U.S. Open Cup, which is recognized as U.S. Soccer’s National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The tournament has crowned a champion for 93 consecutive years dating back to 1914. Like Golf’s US Open, there are regional qualifying games that can lead to an amateur team like our boys competing at the highest levels.

Eight teams will participate from the PDL, where 60 teams are eligible to qualify for the U.S. Open Cup. The top two teams from the Central Conference, which includes the Demize, will advance. Tonight’s game is opening night of the qualifying round and our boys will play their four games between now and May 26th identify if they will be one of the two Central Conference squads that will advance from the Professional Development League (PDL).

This one means something folks. Come cheer them on!

Weekend Update

PDL Soccer: Springfield Demize vs St Louis Lions Exhibition The Springfield Demize held a raucous Spring Exhibition match against the Tony Glavin-led St Louis Lions on Saturday evening at the Cooper Soccer Complex. The game score was 4-2 in favor of the Demize when I left around 7:30pm when my camera batteries finally expired after attending four games Saturday. Attendance was bolstered by a strong contingent of Glavin SC fans in town for the tournament this weekend. The game was also a final tryout session for a number of players, so we’ll know more about the final make up of the team soon. The photo is a picture of MSU student Eduardo Conde, scoring the 4th goal on a header from a corner kick.

Drury Panthers host Wm Jewell Cardinals, Women Apr 5thThere were four games at Drury Saturday afternoon. The William Jewell Cardinal’s women’s team visited, featuring Katie Brooks (Parkview 2005) in her new role as attacking midfielder. That’s her being defended by Chloe Moushey. It was also an opportunity for new recruit Megan Garrad (Glendale 2008) to visit with the team.

Following the women’s game, the Cardinal Men’s team played a pair of games, facing the Drury Panthers and then the Missouri Southern Lions. The Lion’s, which feature a pair of former Southwest All-Stars in Jesse Clevenger (College Heights 2006) and Nate Evans (Cassville 2007), then took on the Panthers. The two games I caught were active, almost heated, until cooler heads prevailed and the players settled down to show some fine soccer. It was good to see Tyson Bramley again, and still uninjured.

Missouri Southern will host the Avila Eagles on Tuesday evening. Avila includes Nixa graduate, and Springfield Demize player Danny Curro, and a new head Coach in Chris Clements, who moves over from the University of Central Missouri Mules.la escort agencies
