PDL Soccer: Colorado Rapids U23 Sweep Springfield Demize

The Demize lost the second game on their road trip to Colorado on Sunday 1-2, narrowing the gap significantly compared to Saturday’s match. Zach Prince sparks Rapids U-23 in win according the the Boulder Daily Camera, who noted:

Springfield broke through for its first goal in the weekend series in the 71st minute when substitute forward Nebossa Osaic flicked the ball into the goal after a Demize corner kick.

PDL Soccer: Springfield Demize Shut Out at Colorado

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, the Rapids U-23′s Charles unloads on Springfield, a reference to the forwards hat trick scored in a 20 minute window. It was part of a 6-0 shutout win over our boys. The first goal came in the 30th minute and four players contributed goals in the win. A key point from the story

“We had two weeks off and we stopped practicing with so many players,” head coach Peter Ambrose said. “We were focusing on the 23 players on the team. We wanted the team to gel and become a unit.”

The Demize lost 2-3 at home to the Rapids two weeks ago. They’ll play another game at Colorado today at 4pm Mountain time, allowing them to possibly pull some enthusiasm from the Italy vs Spain game today (1:30 CDT/12:30 MDT).

Springfield Demize Open PDL Soccer Season This Saturday

Springfield DemizeThe Springfield Demize, who compete in the Professional Development League (PDL), comparable to Single A baseball while allowing College players to retain their eligibility, begin their second season at Cooper Soccer Complex this Saturday May 10th. The team will play a 16-game season, with 8 home games, concluding in late July.

This year’s team is comprised of several local young men with a solid mixture of international players to make for a very exciting season. Head coach Armen Tonianse noted “We are extremely pleased with the team’s diversity. I feel we have done a great job with recruitment and the team should be very successful this season. We are expecting great things”.

PDL: Springfield Demize tame Rapids U23 by 3-1 ScoreThis year’s squad includes last years leading goal scorer Brett Thomas (pictured with fans) and returning center midfielder Eddie Conde. The Demize will also include newcomers Kyle Dubay from Sweet 16 qualifier Central Connecticut State University and a trio of Division I, Western Illinois players.

The Demize are looking to compete for the PDL title in 2008 and expect nothing less. The season opener and 1st leg of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with be played against the Colorado Rapid U-23’s at Lake Country Soccer Complex Cooper #1 at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday May 10th. PDL: Springfield Demize Announce 2008 Season Schedule

Springfield Demize Opening night for Springfield’s Professional Development League (PDL) team will be Mother’s Day weekend, and the start of the girls District playoffs. Saturday May 10th they will host the Colorado Rapid’s U23, with Lance Parker (MSU) in goal for the Rapids very likely.

The KC Brass visit twice, the first time May 22nd, just two days after the Class 3 Sectional that is traditionally held at Lake Country Soccer as well. They return two weeks later on June 6th, also the start of the Toyota Cup, being hosted by Lake Country this year. The Rapids U23′s will visit on Saturday June 7th.That should guarantee large crowds!

The final home games in early July feature Heartland Conference rivals St Louis and Des Moines, which will probably feature Drury forward Marco Cherisma. The games are bracketed by a pair of long distance road trips (to Colorado and Ontario). It’s a fairly balanced schedule that offers the St Louis Lions and Des Moines Menace as the final home games.
