After finishing tied for 3rd in the Ozark Conference, with Northern neighbor Camdenton, the Bulldogs lost 1-0 in the District Final’s last year to Jeff City, on a goal scored in the final 3 minutes of the game. Combined with an OT loss to Glendale and a 2-3 loss to Kickapoo during Ozark Conference play, the Bulldogs know what they need to do to get back to their winning ways in post-season. The Rolla High School girls’ soccer team will be looking for more offense this spring. The Lady Bulldogs had a strong defensive effort throughout 2009, allowing just 17 goals all season long.

However, RHS simply couldn’t find the back of the net enough on the other end of the field. Rolla finished with a 16-7-3 record last year, reaching the district tournament championship game.

From that squad seven starters and 10 varsity lettermen return. Leading the charge for RHS is senior goal-keeper Adrian Pogue, an all-state selection last season. Pogue recorded 14 shutouts last season and is the Lady Bulldog career shutout leader with 34.

RHS will start three defenders – senior Katherine McCaulla, sophomore Kendra Wood and junior Ashlee Rightnowar.

Starting outside midfielders are senior Katelyn Maddy and sophomore Taylor Tronstad while the center midfielders are sophomore Taylor Banholzer and senior Jaclyn Standfast.

The three forwards are seniors Olivia Cox and Kaylyn Stoll and junior Ellen Spooner.

Rolla is scheduled to begin the season on Friday, March 26, opening the Central Federal/RHS Girls’ Soccer Classic against Washington at 5 p.m. on Kiwanis Field. RHS is also scheduled to play Springfield Catholic at 9 a.m. and Columbia Hickman at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 in the event.

Junior Ashley Kerr opened the scoring with a goal in the 36th minute from a long throw by senior Kaitlin Bramel for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. In the second half, Sophomore Jaclyn Standfast scored a penalty kick in the 48th minute, Junior Emily Spooner scored unassisted ten minutes later with a direct free kick and Sophomore Olivia Cox finished the scoring in the 74th minute off a pass from Freshman Ashlee Rightnower. Sophomore Adrian Pogue recorded her 7th shutout of the season.

Parkview Vikings – 2
In a game that was delayed for an hour at the start due to lightning, the Lakers took a 2-0 lead at halftime before seeing the Vikings claw their way back into the game. Details to follow.

Hillcrest Hornets – 0
The Hornets came to Cooper on Senior night for the Falcons and didn’t make it easy for Glendale in the early going. With both teams coming off of important wins on Monday, it was the Hornets who were more focused initially. Glendale has too many weapons however and once they concentrated on moving the ball into the box, Emily Cline was on the left corner to bury a short range shot. It was 2-0 at half before the Falcons finally wore out the Hornets, who lost their GK late in the first half on a courageous save in the box. Stats for the game are Jeni Frewin (1G/1A), Megan Garrad (1G/1A), Emily Cline (1G), Lindsey Sprouse (1G), Emilee Williams (1G), Katie Brewer (1G), Jamie Bond (1G), Ashleigh Dallas (1G), Mindy Moffe (1A).

Kickapoo Chiefs – 6
West Plains Zizzers – 0
The Chiefs baseball team ended up moving their game to Parkview due to rain, so I don’t know if this one got played. UPDATE – Senior Katy McClain scored on a header off a cross in the 21st minute to give Kickapoo a lead in the first half. Abby Anderson, McKenna Adams, Megan Melugin, Erica Freiert and Kiley Huslig.

Nixa Eagles – 1
Bolivar Liberators – 0
Nixa scored the lone goal of the night in the 70th minute to beat the Lady Liberators for the second time this season. Bolivar falls to 7-4 on the season.

The star of the game was Shelby Murray, who recorded a hat trick — three goals — in the game.
Murray scored twice in the first half, while Amelia White added another goal to give the Lady Cats a 3-1 lead over the Lady Blue Jays. via Neosho Daily News

Willard Wildcats – 1
Tara Bailes scored via the spot in the 14th minute put the Irish up 1-0 at the half. Four minutes into the second half Catholic benefited from a Willard own goal to go up by two. Natalie Smid scored a nice goal in the 58th minute when she converted a pass from Maddy Renner. Patsy Middleton brought Willard to 3-1 in the 67th minute when she finished a cross from Janine Bird. Anna DeLong and Emily Kessler rounded out the scoring for the Irish with goals in the 68th and 71st minutes.
