Springfield Demize – 1
Rochester Thunder – 0
The Demize held off some early challenges by the visitors this evening and then came out in the 2nd half and won their 2nd straight game, both at home. The game winner came as a pair of Drury Panther teammates combined to create and finish the opportunity. Attacking midfielder Andrew Bordelon sent forward Micah Whorton in alone with a creative ball into space that Micah ran onto near the top right hand side of the box. His shot to the far post eluded the goalkeepers attempt and then it was 20 minutes of defense.
The Thunder fall to ?-? as they head to KC for a game against the Brass. Springfield is now 2-6 and host the St Louis Lions next Thursday. They’ll be looking to avenge an early season 0-6 loss in much the same fashion as their reversal of results with KC, going from an 0-5 loss to a 2-0 win.

What is the FIFA Confederations Cup? US Soccer offers some background:
What is now known as the FIFA Confederations Cup began as the King Fahd Cup, or Intercontinental Championship, a small tournament in Saudi Arabia with four teams, each the champion of its confederation. As winners of the 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the U.S. received an invitation to the first-ever event along with Argentina, Ivory Coast and the hosts.

I’m going to try and get out to the two late games so look for photos. An observation – of these six teams, only one was ranked/seeded coming into the tournament. What do you think, could that be an indication that there is a reason we play the games, and the MYSA policies that have decreased participation by more than 1/2 is a failure?

KC Brass – 0
Springfield Demize – 2
On the strength of a pair of goals scored in the 4th and 46th minutes this evening the Demize shrugged off their early season difficulties and earned their first victory of the season. The first goal was scored by Luis Martins when Micah Whorton’s (pictured above) simple square ball inside the box allowed him to turn and get off a shot as two defenders closed. The second goal was scored by Whorton when he was on the receiving end of a cross from the right side.
KOLR10 was out and Eric should have the first goal for tonights sports. I’ll have photos tomorrow.
I’ve set up a Countdown timer on this website, you can find it in the center column between my Twitter feed and the Comments section.
My Scandinavian forebears aren’t doing to well at the moment, with Sweden in 4th place after 6 games, 4 points back of Hungary and tied with Portugal while Denmark are on top 7 points ahead of Sweden. Norway is in worse shape although may have a better opportunity, with 3 pts from 3 draws in 5 games. Netherlands sit on top with 21 and Scotland is part of the group as well.
Who do you want to see included next year?
From the BBC comes an article on Sentanta, who owns the broadcast rights for the English Premier League: Last-ditch effort to save Setanta
Setanta executives are locked in an emergency board meeting to discuss a rescue package in attempt to stave off administration, the BBC has learned. The sports broadcaster could face administration “within days” unless backers provide more funds, earlier reports suggested. The company needs to pay the £30m it owes to the English Premier League.
Administration in England is the same as bankruptcy here. Media Week has weighed in on the issue with their story Setanta rescue talks ‘progressing’
Setanta, the troubled pay-TV sports broadcaster, is optimistic that it can secure a last-ditch funding deal to save it from administration, as it grapples with an estimated £100m funding black hole.
According the the article, Setanta has about 1.2 million UK direct subscribers, but needs 1.9 million to break even. Setanta has also disabled its telephony and online subscription services, preventing new customers from signing up.
What do you think, will ESPN or Fox Soccer Channel step in to sweep up the rights to the top world league programming?
