I’m not a Chelsea fan, Zack can vouch for that (Facebook video), but for those of you that are or might otherwise be interested in hanging out with the boys from London when they play the Seattle Sounders on July 18th, then here’s your chance.
SuperLiga, a premier tournament that pits the best of the United States against the best of Mexico, returns with its third edition to award the heftiest winner’s purse in North American soccer history. The KC Wizards are one of four MLS teams that are competing against four Mexican teams in the SuperLiga tournament, or as the website notes – vying to determine a singular champion of North America.

The Region 2 Tournament opens today in Sioux City, SD and the Springfield region will be represented by one team and a pair of players.
The Springfield SC U18 boys return for their third visit to Region II, having qualified via the Midwest Regional League for one of sixteen spots available across the twelve states that make up the region. The boys are very familiar with the environment and the expectations and as you can imagine, have some specific goals in mind. I’ll let them share them with you in the video below.
The schedule this weekend is as follows:
Saturday June 20th 4:00 PM – (KS) KC WIZARDS JRS
Sunday June 21st 8:00 AM – (IL) INTER FC
Monday June 22nd 4:00 PM – (KY) JAVANON 91S
with the Group winner advancing to the Semifinals which is where SSC has lost the first two years.
The Gallagher/Busch U19 Girls are also at Regionals and I’m confirming that Chelsey Russell is with them this year. You may recall this is the team that won the U15 National Title 4 years ago.
Former Bentonville midfielder Eric Martin signed a letter of intent recently to play soccer at Missouri State University.
Martin was a two-year starter for the Tigers in 2007 and 2008 before finishing his high school career at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minn.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s features one of the top youth soccer programs in the country, competing against other club teams in the fall and spring seasons. Martin played for the U18 program that went 21-12-8 and advanced to the semifinals of Minnesota’s state cup. While at Bentonville, the 6-foot-1 midfielder was one of the more talented players in the area. As a junior, he scored 12 goals for the Tigers and was called “the pick of the bunch” by BHS head coach Mike Devaney. “When Eric is really, truly in the mood to play, he will be a real handful for other teams,” Devaney said before the 2008 season. Martin scored four goals as a sophomore in 2007. Martin also played club soccer for the Arkansas Comets for several years. Martin is a part of a seven-man signing class at Missouri State ready to compete next fall. The Bears were 7-10-5 last season.
