7th Annual Southwest All-Stars, White squad

White – 6
Green – 1
A goal midway thru the 1st half by Dylan Corbett who made a great overlapping run down the right, with a ball sent into his path by Adam Entrup, allowed a shot to the far post just under Reece Connors dive. Entrup then scored two, the first a header from Jackson Patillo’s long ball into the box.

The White MVP was Adam Entrup, Catholic following his two early goals that gave the White team they would not give up. For the Green team, Joe Aubuchon from Glendale was recognized for his field leadership.

A large part of the difference in the scoreline tonight can be attributed to the fact that the White squad had 9 players who are teammates on the Springfield SC U18 squad who had just completed a run to the semifinals in the Missouri State Cup. It’s an inexact science when putting the teams together with the first focus on placing High School teammates together and then trying to balance the teams. With my transition out of the event there was less visibility on this factor but I expect that it was a lesson learned.

2006 All-Stars from Joplin and Neosho

The 7th Annual All-Star game is being played at the Greenwood Stadium Field at the Cooper Soccer Complex Thursday June 23rd. There will be two games, a Girls game beginning at 6:00 pm followed by the Boys game at 8:00 pm.

The rosters for the game have just been released with a new color scheme this year.

Girls Roster Final 2011 – The Green Team is coached by Jeff Rogers, Glendale and the White Team coached by Ben Timson, Catholic. Jeff’s youngest son, Jake Rogers, returns from a knee injury that kept him out of the Fall season to participate in the All-Star game. He will play for Crowder College in the Fall.

Boys Roster Final 2011 – The Green Team is coached by Mike Howard, Rolla and the White Team coached by Jacob Osborne, Carthage. Jason Howard, Mike’s oldest son, is playing and is headed for Lewis & Clark in St Louis following a senior season that included 2nd Team All-State and Central Region Offensive Player of the Year honors.

The teams are invited high school seniors who graduated in May 2011 and have recently completed their high school careers. Players are considered from three Class 3 Districts (10, 11 and 12), one Class 2 District (11) plus Bolivar and St James, and two Class 1 Districts (11, 12)

The game features the best graduating high school seniors in this region, as chosen by Eric Sorlie, Duane Moses and Tim Davis of Springfield Soccer Club. The event is organized and supported by Springfield Soccer Club, home to over 20 teams including three State Championship squads (2007, 2008 and recently crowned 2011 Boys U16 Missouri State Champions).

RepublicMONews.com checks in with All-Stars Beat the Odds

The odds of a female athlete from Republic being chosen to participate in the Southwest All-Stars soccer showcase would not be very high, based on the fact that the Republic school system does not have a soccer program. So with the sport of soccer kicking off this fall at Republic High School, it was even more of a rariety that two high school seniors from Republic—Elle Aston and Molly Marcotte—were selected to be a part of the event showcasing the area’s best female soccer players.

Mediacom has delivered copies of the games to me and I’m going to sort out the duplication process in the next day or two. In the meantime, if you’d like to see the games they will be broadcast tonight and Saturday on Mediacom Channel 22 beginning at 7:00 pm. There will also be a broadcast on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

If you’d like to purchase a copy of the game DVD (boys or girls) use the Contact form on this website. Looks like I should be able to do it myself and I’ll provide the DVD in a case with a photo cover that features your child’s team. Figure $20 plus tax and shipping so approximately $25. The money will go towards covering my costs during the season.

    5th Annual Girls All-Stars

It’s late so I’m going to keep this brief. Under a beautiful summer sun and night sky, the 6th Annual All-Star game drew the top seniors from the area and a very good crowd to Springfield Catholic High School. The game also drew a significant media presence as KY3, KOLR10/KSFX27 and KSPR33 were all in attendance. The News-Leader had two photographers and two reporters along with reporters and photographers from the Christian County Express, Republic Monitor and Lake-Sun Leader. I’ll find all of the stories as they are posted and point you to them here so come back often!

The game was taped by Mediacom who will broadcast it on Channel 22 later this week. Look for it on Thursday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 pm and again on Sunday at 1:00 pm. DVD’s will be available for purchase. More details as soon as I get them!

If you shot photos of the game and the event, I’d love to hear from you so that we can share them with others who will have an interest in your efforts. Contact me and we can arrange to post them or point others to them.

The efforts that Springfield Catholic High School and their Soccer Booster Club went to to provide a comfortable and enjoyable viewing experience were amazing. That included pulling power to support Mediacom’s ability to broadcast the game without a generator that would have distracted from the game. Turns out that the high heat probably had the air conditioners in the area going at high blast so the Boy’s game was interrupted with 20 minutes remaining when a transformer blew. The Boys voted to finish the game despite missing a bank of lights in to applause from the crowd. Thank you SCHS, State Champions and quality hosts. I vote we return in 2011. What do you think?

Cox Sports Medicine was represented by Dr Rusty Bond and two trainers including Charles Bower and they brought all of the tools of their trade to bear keeping the players prepared to play in the heat. It was the 5th year they have participated and it included stationing an ambulance near the field for the entire evening. Thank you!

The referees donated their time tonight and thanks go out to Andy Wilkinson and Patrick Burns who worked the center for the Boys and Girls game respectivley. AR’s included Todd McCutcheon and Jess McCutcheon, a 2008 All-Star herself as well as S Bollin. Thank you!

The game is brought to you by Springfield SC and SGFsoccer.com and the SSC and their partner J&K Soccer provided the tshirts that the players now have as souvenirs of their efforts. J&K also provided the game balls and tents to provide shade for the players, especially important during the early game. Bella!

I’m interested in knowing what you thought of the game, as a player or attendee. Please share your thoughts via the comment field at the bottom of this story. And do come back as I collect reports from around the area!

The game features the best graduating high school seniors in this region, as chosen by Steve Ole Olson of SGFsoccer.com, who covered over 50 games this Spring season, and Eric Sorlie of Springfield SC. Nominations were sought from the coaches of all of the teams from the three classes that play soccer in the Southwest Missouri region.

As part of the game activities this evening, we will be recognizing the Springfield Catholic girls team, along with Head Coach Ben Timson and assistant Meredith White. The Lady Irish won the State Soccer Title in Class 1 on June 5th, defeating Trinity Catholic from St Louis. The title is the first ever in soccer for any team in Southwest Missouri.

What: Southwest High School Soccer All-Stars
    When: Tonight!
6:00 pm – Girls Game (download the rosters)
7:45 pm – Special Recognition, State Champion Springfield Catholic Girls
8:00 pm – Boys Game (download the rosters)

The Boys Head Coaches are Steve Fast of Bolivar and Jason Ingold of Camdenton. The Liberators won 2nd Place in Class 2 in November while the Lakers earned their first District title.

Key sponsors this year include J&K Soccer who provide the souvenir jerseys, game balls and this year are bringing tents to provide shade for the players during the game. Cox Sports Medicine is represented by Dr Rusty Bond (whose daughter Jamie was an All-Star in 2008) and Charles Bower. There will also be an ambulance stationed at the game. That includes taking special steps to allow Mediacom to return to the game for the first time since 2006. Don West and Mike McClure will be on hand this evening to provide the play-by-play. Color analysis will be offered by Coaches Jeff Rogers of Glendale and Tom Davidson of Ozark, the deans of Springfield high school soccer.

The event is organized jointly by SGFsoccer.com, Southwest Missouri’s soccer resource, and Springfield Soccer Club, home to over 20 teams including the two time State Championship squad.

2006 All-Stars from Joplin and Neosho

Folks, I have to apologize, I have been slow to get some of the game details taken care of. It’s a volunteer gig, not my real job so please don’t take it personally if you haven’t received information in as timely a fashion as you would expect or hope.

That being said, let’s get this party started.

First things first – I need your help ensuring that every player that has been invited is pointed to the information in this post. Please share this with your teammate, your son or daughter or a player on your favorite team to ensure they have the opportunity to participate and be recognized for their accomplishments.

What: Southwest All-Stars Game – one week away!

7:45 pm – Recognition of State Champion Springfield Catholic Girls and Coach Ben Timson

    2340 S Eastgate Avenue

Tickets are sold at the gate and are $5 apiece. Children 6 and under are free. There are no refunds available. In the case of severe weather we will attempt to reschedule the game for a day later in the week.

Ticket sales will be handled as you drive into the entrance to Catholic HS, on Eastgate.

There is Seating available in stands that will be located along the field as well as on the roadway along side the field. There is limited grass seating area between those two areas that allow blankets but due to the expected attendance, we ask that you DO NOT bring lawn chairs.

Catholic High School will be providing Concessions which will include beverages, candy and probably some grilled hot dogs and hamburgers.

There is a strong likelihood that Mediacom will be part of this years game as well, for the first time since 2006. Both games will be covered and shown on a tape-delayed basis. DVD’s of the game will also be available for resale.

Players should arrive 90 minutes early so that they can be assigned to a team, receive their souvenir jersey t-shirt and warm up with their team. Each player is responsible for bringing water/Gatorade/Powerade for their personal consumption as well as white socks, MSHSAA approved shin-guards and black shorts.

There is a registration form that each player needs to complete. It includes a waiver of liability – this event is put on as a voluntary basis and certified referees and trainers will be provided but there is a risk of injury from playing in any athletic event. We ask the players to recognize that risk and absolve the organizers from liability.

We also ask them to update us on their current Honors and Recognition so that we may share that with the attendees throughout the game.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Steve “Ole” Olson via the contact form on this site.
