Timson’s team posted a 23-4 record on the way to its second consecutive Missouri Class 1 state championship. In the past two seasons the team has a combined record of 44-9-1 and has reached the state semifinals each of the past three years.

The featured photo was taken on May 19th following Parkview’s win over Joplin in the District 12 title game. Head Coach Ed Miller gathered post-game with his senior players.
Three days later, on May 22nd, the tornado struck Joplin and changed thousands of lives.

After six plus years of coverage, it’s time for this boy to bid you goodbye. I’m moving to St Louis in mid-August.
I’m in discussions with several individuals and a few organizations about the possibility of continuing my efforts here to create ‘soccer junkies’ as Jeremy Alumbaugh described it a few years ago. I will keep you appraised of those conversations as they hopefully come to fruition. If you would like to throw your hat in the ring, use the contact form.
I haven’t completely abandoned the site but I find myself concentrating more on the things I need to do regarding my move. The Facebook page will continue as well, consider posting items of interest there yourself and continue to build this community. Depending on how the website conversations go, there may be a need for a separate administrator for the Facebook page. Leave a note there if you would like to be a moderator.

Tony Schmitt was a hot, sweaty mess. Schmitt and his St. Louis Scott Gallagher IL Premier Under-17 soccer team spent the ugliest part of Sunday’s heat conditioning and training.
That meant running, running and more running for the SLSG IL Premier. With the sun and humidity pushing the heat index beyond 110 degrees, what in the world could possibly be worth such a torturous training session?
A national championship, that’s what.
SLSG IL Premier is a week away from landing in Phoenix to take part in the U. S. Youth Soccer National Championships. The girls locked up their spot at the tournament by capturing the Blue Division of the United States National League. SLSG IL Premier went 5-1-1 during the winter to punch its ticket to the summer’s biggest event.

The squad defeated FC United New York 2-0 on Friday afternoon to reach the U23 final.
The Post-Dispatch talked to Coach Mueller about the tournament.
“The majority of these guys grew up playing Scott Gallagher soccer under Tommy Howe; not all of them played together all that time, but they all know how to play the game and they’re used to being successful,” Mueller said. “We know we have a good team and we’re expecting to make a run at a championship.”
Likely starters for Mueller’s squad include Mark Pais (Ladue/SLU) in goal; Chad Vandegriffe (Chaminade/SLU), Ryan Wilhelm (CBC/SIUE), Benny Jeffery (Hazelwood Central/SIUE), and Jake Dobbins (Marquette/Tulsa) in the backfield; and Nick Maglasang (SLUH/SLU), Brian Schultz (SLUH/DePaul), Jordan Hoffman (Parkway Central/Missouri State) and Devon Newport (SLU) in the midfield. Up front, Alim Sabotic (Mehlville/UMSL) had been playing alongside Kevin Stoll (Chaminade/SIUE), but Stoll is out due to a knee injury. Possible replacements include Tom Gaus (DeSmet/Tulsa) and Peter Hyde (Chaminade/UMSL).
Note – Mueller worked the Drury Panthers Soccer Camp last week, prior to heading to KY for the tournament.
If the fan vote is any indication, the MLS All-Star team will be heavy on the stars when they take on English Premier League champions Manchester United in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on July 27 at Red Bull Arena.
The First XI also includes three players who have never been named to the MLS All-Star team.
San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski, the 2010 Golden Boot winner, has obviously earned the respect of fans across North America for his consistent scoring. Brek Shea, the young attacker from FC Dallas, is enjoying a season some pundits call worthy of MVP consideration.
Portland captain Jack Jewsbury, who leads the Portland Timbers with four goals and is fourth in MLS with six assists, is the lone representative of either of this year’s expansion teams.
Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler was also selected for the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star team as the player with the most fan votes via text. Besler received an astounding 30 percent of all text votes submitted between June 8 and July 5 and he received nearly three times as many text votes as the next closest player.

A goal in the 10th minute by Mitch Moncada (Catholic), assisted by Ismael Serratos (Carthage) provided the team with their 4th straight game holding the lead. Unfortunately their stout defense, which had not surrendered a goal in the 3 group stage games, gave up one in the second half, leading to overtime. The Ohio squad scored again in the 1st OT and held on to win, advancing to the Final tomorrow.
The boys finish 3-1 in reaching the semifinals their first time to Regionals. The three group games were all shutouts, with a 5-0 advantage in goals scored vs surrendered.

A second half goal by Ismael Serratos (Carthage) in the 71st minute has given the boys their third straight shutout win in the group stages and they now advance to the Semifinals tomorrow at 10am. Awaiting word on winner of Carmel United U16 Elite (IN) vs CUP Crew Juniors Gold (OH-S) match. It’s the Crew!
The Cincinnati United Premiere (CUP) Crew Gold squad finished 1st in the Midwest Regional League Premier East this Spring, finishing 6-1. Their sole loss was to the Everest SC Black team, 3-0 on April 10th in Cincinnati. The team is ranked 2nd in the Region according to GotSoccer.

The loss appears to have finished the teams run at Regionals. A 2-1 finish with six points ties them with the KCFC Spartans (KS) but the Spartans have a +5 GD compared to Gallagher’s +1, meaning the Wild Card spot will elude them.

The win was not sufficient to allow Molly Brewer (Glendale) and her teammates to advance as the MN Thunder Academy tied Lexington and advance with a 2-0-1 record and 7 points versus Gallaghers six points from two wins.

E Iowa United 92/93 (IA) – 0
The STL representatives, which include Emily Cline (Glendale) and Shelby Hatz (Catholic), advance to the semifinals with a 2-0-1 record and 7 points. They avoid the KCFC Intensity squad that includes Shea Groom and Kaysie Clark of the Liberty Jays who advance with the 3-0 record and 18 goals scored. They will instead play Mockingbird (KY) who advanced via PK’s against Eclipse (IL) when both teams finished 2-0-1 with a +8 GD. Eclipse was the #1 ranked team in the Region while Mockingbird is #10
