WPSL: River Cities FC Win 1-0 Over Indiana FC

WPSL: River Cities FC vs FC Indiana A beautiful evening that featured the beautiful game and a fine result for the home squad Saturday as River Cities FC avenged last weeks loss with a shutout of their own. The game winner came in the 27th minute from Katya Hessel from 8 yards out. Hessel one timed a rebound off the left upright from Nobis’s header. The play started with a run down the right side as Brittany Potts slipped a ball to the overlapping Monique Gjini. The cross to the far post drew defenders and Hessel put her shot on frame for the game winner.

Indiana FC’s best chance came early in the 2nd half when they were able to generate several attacks down the heart of the RC FC defense. The most dangerous was a high hard shot in the 51st minute that Meghann Burke stretched to corral.

It was a well-played match that featured one of the purest midfielders I’ve seen in quite some time, FC Indiana’s Fatima Leyva., one of two members of the Mexican national team on FC Indiana (Monica Ocampo in red is pictured above with Monique Gjini). The opportunity to see Missouri State’s Kate Hercules who played 90, as well as a number of players I’ve read much about such as Janelle Cordelia (Hickman/Mizzou), Caitlin King (Nerinx/Auburn) and Julia Brandenburg (Ursuline/SLU) added to the experience.

The next home game is Thursday June 28th at 7:00 pm when the ladies will host Ghana’s Ghatel Ladies FC team.

Jasper & Hercules Into WPSL Final Four

SMSU One More Time The River Cities FC squad won their match against Southern Division champions Tampa Bay Elite to earn a trip to the Final Four of the Women’s Professional Soccer League. The RC FC Ladies will face off against Ajax (CA) on Friday evening in a semifinal match.

Jackie Jasper (pictured above), Missouri State 2009, will start in goal, replacing injured first teamer Meghann Burke. The RC FC defense, which includes starter Kate Hercules, Missouri State 2007, has allowed only six goals this year and will hope to improve on that record.

With the college season beginning August 7th (preseason practice) the ladies will come in well prepared for the rigors of the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference season. girls in dubai

Kate Hercules Through to WPSL Quarterfinals

St. Louis had an explosion of semipro teams this summer, adding the St. Louis Lions (PDL) as well as two women’s teams, Missouri State vs Drake one from the W-League and one from the WPSL (Women’s Pro Soccer League). The WPSL representative is River Cities FC which has gone 7-0-2 in their inaugural season. That has earned them first place in the Midwest Division. Missouri State was represented by Kate Hercules, MVC Defender of the Year last year and graduate of perennial state champions St. Teresa’s Academy (KC). That’s Kate in white challenging for the high ball on a set piece against Drake last year.

Kate played in eight of the nine games and has the opportunity to play in three more potentially.
