The Oregonian talks to Jack Jewsbury ahead of the Portland Timbers Home Opener on Saturday.

Jack Jewsbury has experienced a lot of opening days.

He spent eight years of opening days with the Kansas City Wizards. And as a veteran he worn the captain’s armband as he walked up from under the stands to the loud singing of the Timber’s Army at the Portland Timbers first home game as an MLS Franchise.

But with each passing year, those opening days become more and more meaningful for the 11-year MLS veteran.

You can catch Jack Jewsbury and the Portland Timbers live on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm. The game is being broadcast by NBC.

The team is 3rd in the Western Conference one spot ahead of the Galaxy. The difference between home playoff games and road playoff games will turn on this match. Sporting KC Puts on an All-Star Party

The 2013 MLS All-Star game didn’t just affirm that for one night, anyway, Kansas City was the “soccer capital of the world,” as proclaimed on a downtown billboard.

“It was a great, great opportunity for us to showcase Sporting and Kansas City,” MLS and Sporting coach Peter Vermes said after the All-Star team’s 3-1 loss to AS Roma. “It’s not just the game on Wednesday night; it’s everything that goes along with it.”

Sporting KC Hosts Orlando City Wednesday

Via The Cup – The Fourth Round of the 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup kicks off on Wednesday, June 12 with eight games. Four lower division teams are still alive, but only one of them are hosting in a Major League Soccer-dominated schedule. Jack has logged 996 minutes played in 12 MLS games so far in 2013. Mike has logged 98 minutes in in only 3 games played for the Rowdies in 2013, after first seeing action May 25th following injury rehab.

Will Bruin’s Houston Dynamo will play Dallas FC in the 4th round of the US Open Cup on June 12th, at 8 p.m. Will is leading the Dynamo in shots and goals, 2nd in assists and 2nd to Brad Davis in shots on goal.

MLS Announces NYC FC, Manchester City Owners

Via MLS Soccer – NEW YORK – And just like that, “NYC2” is a reality.

After three years of development and planning for a second team in New York, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced on Tuesday that English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City FC and Major League Baseball’s legendary New York Yankees have teamed up to bring it to fruition and acquire MLS’s 20th expansion club.

The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and is expected to begin play in 2015. Read more
