Branson Pirates Invest In Facilities

The Branson Trilakes News offers a report on a $7M facility at Branson High School

Branson’s wrestling program is scheduled to move into its new home as early as midway through next season, while the Pirates’ and Lady Pirates’ football, soccer and track programs will all follow suit throughout 2013.

Groundbreaking will take place next week for Branson’s activities center, with the 30,196-square-foot, two-story, multi-purpose fieldhouse slated to be completed Dec. 12. The facility will be located directly west of the high school and serve as a finishing touch to seven-year-old Branson Stadium.

The Pirates’ football and soccer programs will host games and matches in the Fall.

The Branson soccer pitch at the Middle School has been described as the finest natural surface pitchs in the region by multiple sources I’ve talked to. Here’s hoping the new facility can match the quality of that surface.

Nixa Eagles Capture COC Large School Crown

Nixa-Eagles-COC-Champs-2011Congratulations to the Nixa Eagles, COC Large School champions for 2011. The title is Nixa’s 8th, their first since 2008 following the Carthage Tiger’s two-year run.

The Eagles went undefeated and unscored on during their Conference matches, outscoring their opponents 46-0.

Central Ozark Conference Large School Soccer Standings

The match up between these two teams is Thursday evening at Nixa. Approximate start time 6:15 pm.

With the Class 3 seeding already complete for District 11, the game between Nixa and Ozark tonight is now focused on the Central Ozark Conference title race which will be determined with the results of this game.

Ozark Tigers – 0
Freshman Paige Townsend scored on a header, on a ball delivered by Lauren Moats, to get what would turn out to be the game-winner tonight, approximately 5 minutes into the second half. Moats went on to score a goal as well, approximately 5 minutes before time elapsed, for the final margin. Anne Pierce assisted on the final goal. With the win the Eagles capture the Central Ozark Conference title for the Large School division.

CENTRAL OZARK CONFERENCE
Nixa and Ozark are the remaining undefeated teams in the Large School Division and the Conference Title will likely be determined on Thursday when the Eagles host Ozark. That assumes they both take care of business this evening. If Ozark wins at Neosho, they will be celebrating Head Coach Tom Davidson’s 600th career win.

In the Small School Division, Logan-Rogersville visit to Marshfield will carry the extra weight of District expectations. Marshfield is coming off their Tourney win at Willard and LogRog is their toughest rival in the District. After winning 1-0 on April 12th, the Jays lost by the same score to the Wildcats at the Branson Tournament on April 16th. Did I mention the Webster County derby aspect too? This is the third meeting this year with at least one more likely ahead, in the District title game.

The Eagles got First Half goals from Rachel Murphy, with a pair, the second assisted by Paige Townsend, and Jordyn Hoskins, assisted by Lauren Moats. In the Second Half, Miraya Lopez, assisted by Jamileth Henriquez got the Tigers on the board but any thoughts of a comeback were quashed when Murphy completed her hat trick, assisted by Moats on the final goal.

Nixa is now 15-3. JV won 1-0

The results to date point to two primary contenders – Nixa and Ozark – who will meet on Thursday May 5th to likely determine the COC Large School title this year. Last year’s game went to PK’s, won 2-1 by Ozark. Carthage needs to win on Tuesday (or whenever the game get’s scheduled if the rain continues) to be part of the conversation.
