The Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) have released their second regular season poll of the season. Class 3 sees the biggest changes.

Class 3 – The Rock Bridge Bruins jump from #6 to the top spot in the second poll at the same time as they are grabbing headlines in St Louis at the CYC Tournament. Timing was good on this poll allowing the first two games to be taken into account. Chaminade went from #5 to #3, two spots behind Rock Bridge but the CYC Tournament is going to let us see how good the Coaches Poll is. You can see #1 Rock Bridge vs #e Chaminade tonight (Friday) at 8pm. Prior to that #2 CBC will face off against SLUH at 6pm. Games are at the Soccer Park in Fenton.

Class 2 – The biggest changes are below the undefeated Crusaders, also defending Class 2 champions. Rolla jumps to #2 following their Parkway West Tournament championship while Carthage moves up behind them after their successful weekend as well. I covered their success and it seems the Coaches saw it. Parkway West falls two slots as their difficult schedule has still led to an 8-3 record.

Class 1 – Southern Boone County (SoBoCo) maintains their #1 but John Burroughs moves up to #2 ahead of Springfield Catholic. Continue reading “Rolla Grabs #2 Spot in Latest Missouri Coaches Poll”

Miriam Taylor, career scoring leader for the Camdenton Lakers, is continuing her career at Lewis & Clark CC in Godfrey IL. The Trailblazers visited St Louis CC in what could well be a preview of the NJCAA District D playoff in November, with the winner advancing to the National Finals. The Trailblazers came away with a 3-0 victory, slightly below their current 5.4 goals per game average in their 10-0 season so far.

Lewis & Clark are ranked #10 in the National NJCAA Poll and sport a 10-0 record following Monday’s win. They have defeated five of the six teams in Region 24 by a combined score of 30-3 with three shutouts. That should lead to a top-seed in the Regional playoff in November with the winner advancing to the District D playoff with the Region 16 (Missouri) champions.

Knowing this the teams came out fast on Monday Continue reading “Miriam Taylor Pursuing NJCAA Title”

Rolla and Carthage Pursue Class 2 Glory

It was a big weekend of soccer for the Carthage Tigers and Rolla Bulldogs. Close to home the #5 state-ranked Tigers came to Springfield and knocked off a top Class 3 program by defeating Glendale 1-0 in penalty kicks on Thursday, followed closely by their Parkview Tournament Championship that concluded with a 2-0 victory over Springfield Catholic. That’s some pretty good soccer and points to the Tigers being one of the top programs in the region, regardless of class.

Initial Coaches Poll

For the #3 state-ranked Bulldogs, it was a tournament championship in St Louis at the Parkway West Tournament. They opened play on Friday against the host Parkway West, ranked #2 in Class 2 in the first poll of the season, and came away with a 3-1 victory powered by two set piece goals, a towering header from their leading scorer Aaron Froehlich bracketed by a pair of goals from senior Austin Park. His first came on a header he ran onto on the edge of the six yard box from a second chance on a corner kick, his brace completed when he wove through three defenders as he dribbled into the box from the right and buried his shot past the keeper.

They followed with a pair of wins on Saturday against Parkway North (4-0) and Parkway South (5-2) that culminated in the Tourney title when West got past Francis Howell, ranked 4th in the current St Louis rankings.

Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Poll #1

SoBoCo Eagles celebrate during season opening win

The Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) have released their second regular season poll of the season.

Class 3 – The Rock Bridge Bruins, who opened the season ranked in national polls but then lost at Class 2 Rolla on September 3rd, are the top-ranked regional team at #6. Jeff City, in District 10, are their closest challengers and would face Rock Bridge in Sectional play. Glendale and Kickapoo, the usual suspects, earned points as well.

Class 2 – The most competitive Class in the Central/Southwest Region with three teams in the Top 6. Rolla, at #3, defeated Helias in the District final last year and will likely face them again this year. It was Carthage however who advanced to the Final 4 with their 2-0 win over the Bulldogs, going on to lose to St Dominic in the Championship.

Class 1 – For the first time since the start of the 2011 season, the Springfield Catholic boys are not at the top of the polls. Only one point separates them from their challenger however. Southern Boone County (SoBoCo) Eagles, who lost to Catholic 0-1 in the 2012 State Final, have started out 4-0 and grabbed the voters attention.
