MSHSAA Releases District Soccer Changes

catholic-2012-champs
MSHSAA has released the new District lineups for the next two seasons. Changes are minor except for a significant one in Class 3 in St Louis.

Class 1
I see that The College Preparatory High School at Madison, located in St Louis, has been added to District 4 along with Trinity, Whitfield, Tech North and Lutheran North.

Calvary Lutheran in Jeff City joins Belle, Dixon, Fatima and Iberia in District 8. Wentworth Military Academy has dropped Boys Soccer and African Centered College Preparatory Academy has joined District 15 in the KC metro area.

Springfield Catholic are the defending champions, defeating Boone County who return a stronger core this season including Jacob Moore, their leading scorer. Catholic lost their top two scorers to the Rockhurst Hawks of the GLVC.

Class 2
Other than the addition of Battle Spartans to District 10 (a third high school in Columbia, drawing primarily from Hickman) the Class 2 lineup is pretty stable. Defending champions are St Dominic, defeating Carthage last year.

By the way, Carthage’s leading scorer Ismeal Serratos, has joined the Scott Gallagher Metro U18 Academy squad. He was named to the Top XI at the USYSA Nationals this year for his play with the Springfield SC U18 boys team that won Regionals. Rather than moving on to Neosho County CC as originally planned, his former Club Director at Springfield SC Jeremy Alumbaugh has brought him in for a year with the Academy in Collinsville. He joins Dallas Moses on the squad although Dallas will head for Loyola Chicago in January.

Class 3
Looking at the MCC squads, Chaminade and SLUH remain paired albeit in District 8 rather than District 2 this season. Which means CBC and DeSmet, along with Marquette and Parkway North move from District 8 to District 7. Which means that four MCC teams will likely battle for a single Sectional title this season. Vianney is in District 5 which means the math becomes 5 MCC teams = 1 Quarterfinal spot this season (Districts 5-8). Which opens the way for a Public School program in the State Final 4 this year. District 3?

That seems to be the most significant change that I can see in the first look. I’ll point you to any more detailed analysis’ that are likely to spring up.

Soccer on TV, Week 1

Luis-Suarez-Liverpool-via-Mirror
It’s that time again. I’m going to use the EPL calendar to title this new weekly TV Broadcast post, for a number of reasons I won’t bore you with. That’s the key story of course, the opening of the English Premier League on Saturday morning. NBC Sports and its various affiliates will show all 360 of the games this season. The Basso Soccer on TV calendar will have all of them listed for your convenience, including the channels you can find them on. Now to the highlights of the coming week.

English Premier League opens Saturday at 6:45 am with Liverpool vs Stoke City on NBC Sports. It’s followed this week by Arsenal vs Aston Villa at 9am and then at 11:30 am by Swansea City vs Manchester United. The ManU game is being shown on NBC, available over the air for all you non-cable/satellite folks. Enjoy! Continue reading “Soccer on TV, Week 1”
