Nixa Eagles, 2013 District 11 Champions
Nixa Eagles, 2013 District 11 Champions

The only school with a chance to return to the Final 4 this year is the top ranked St Joe Angels, who finished 3rd last year when they beat Glendale in the consolation match. They travel to Oakville this evening and should be ready to play the winner of Ft Zumwalt West/Ft Zumwalt South on Saturday en route to a return to Blue Springs in June. They’ll face the winner from Kansas City. What about the rest of the state?

Updated – Nixa vs Kickapoo moved to Wednesday 7pm

In the battle for the Central/Southwest spot, Nixa beat Glendale for the first time ever in the District final and

should get past Kickapoo. The last time they met with a title on the line was 2010 when Lauren Moats scored the game winner (video below).

Jeff City, who’s coach Matt Stacy has announced he will not be returning next season due to a promotion to Assistant Principal, has the responsibility for stopping Blue Springs South and showing that the Final 4 spot deserves to stay within the region. His girls want to take him all the way to the Final 4. It’s not unreasonable to think they might make it that far. The winner will face the St Louis Slot A winner.

Slot A – Pattonville has too many offensive weapons to not get past Hazelwood Central despite the resourcefulness they showed in earning their first District title since 2008. Eureka still faces some injury concerns but should also advance. Beyond that, I call it a toss up in their Quarterfinal if Leinert and Wallner haven’t returned to full strength.

In Kansas City, St Teresa has been earning top seeds in the Coaches poll all season but Liberty got hot at the right time and comes in on a nice winning streak. The midfield battle between Kaitlyn Clark and Savannah Trujillo, both juniors and both committed to Mizzou, and would be a treat to behold tonight. The winner advances to the Final 4.

Big props to the Jays as they keep the State Final 4 slot in the Central/Southwest region by defeating BSS. Now who do you think will win the Quarterfinal match on Saturday?

The Quarterfinal Saturday will be at Jeff City if Nixa wins, or at Kickapoo if the Chiefs can get past the Eagles.

Pattonville Pirates – 4

Seckman – 0
Eureka Wildcats – 10

The Quarterfinal Saturday should be at Eureka as they host Pattonville.

Ft Zumwalt South – 1

The Jaguars got goals from Haley Nichols and Kayla Collie to get past FZS. Jackie Lindner and Kerri Morris with the assists.
