Ozarks Soccer Represented by Catholic and Nixa at State

Nixa Eagles, 2013 District 11 Champions
Nixa Eagles, 2013 District 11 Champions

UPDATED with Class 3 story links – Good luck to Springfield Catholic and Nixa in Blue Springs this weekend.

Once again, MSHSAA.TV is offering live streaming of the games. Game times may change depending on the weather in Blue Springs!

Class 1
St Pius X are the defending champions, winning 3-1 over Principia last year. Springfield Catholic returns for the fifth straight year as the other returning program this season. The seniors on the Springfield squad won the schools (and Southwest Missouri’s) first soccer title as freshmen in 2010, repeating as sophomores and finishing 3rd last season. Led by Lydia Holtmann, I believe the Irish will play in the Consolation match again this year. The P-D looks at the match up and the challenge facing the Irish. They also offer a Preview.

1:00 pm at Blue Springs South

sacha kljestan
The U.S. Men’s National Team is set for the first of two domestic international friendly matches in a span of five days when it hosts 15th -ranked Belgium on Wednesday, May 29, at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN, WatchESPN and UniMas. This is only the second appearance for the MNT in Cleveland, having collected a 2-0 win against Venezuela just prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

The USA then faces Germany on Sunday, June 2, at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., for its Centennial Celebration Match as U.S. Soccer commemorates its 100-year anniversary. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and UniMas.

The games come in advance of three World Cup Qualifying matches in June – June 7 at Jamaica, June 11 vs Panama and June 18 vs Honduras.

The 15th-ranked Belgians will be hosted by the United States for the first time, and come sporting a roster fit to make a splash at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

They boast 10 players from the English Premier League and one from Bayern Munich, who dominated the Bundesliga and earned a trip to the Champions League Final. Read More
