US Youth Soccer is proud to announce that applications are now being accepted for the fifth term of US Youth Soccer William J. “Billy” Goaziou Scholarships. The memory of Goaziou, who was involved in soccer for more than 25 years a coach and administrator, is honored with two one-year scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to be awarded to one male and one female attending a post-secondary education institution for the first time in fall 2013.
“US Youth Soccer has many volunteers, coaches and administrators who have and continue to give back to the game of soccer through service, and we are very excited to honor a man who spent more than 25 years of his life doing just that,” said John Sutter, president of US Youth Soccer. “Goaziou was a well-respected man within the soccer community and I know he would be very humbled to know that his legacy continues to give back to the game of soccer.”
Goaziou served as treasurer of US Youth Soccer and the Florida Youth Soccer Association, as well as chairman of the US Youth Soccer Budget and Olympic Development Program Committees. In 1994 he took office as the US Soccer Federation’s Treasurer and was re-elected three times (1998, 2000 and 2004). Beyond the soccer world, Goazioue also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
The scholarship will be awarded through the US Youth Soccer Foundation to one male and one female recipient. Students eligible for the scholarship are those planning to attend a post-secondary education institute for the first time in the fall of 2013. The scholarships will be awarded based on community service and giving back to the game of soccer.
