JP’s EPL Report, Week 26

The week started with newly revamped Newcastle hosting Chelsea. Newcastle looked like they were up to play this one as Gutierrez got the goal scoring started in the 41st minute. Frank Lampard fired back in the second to even it up followed by a Juan Mata goal and the visitors were on top. But one of the big signings for Newcastle was Sissoko, a French midfielder who wanted to make a name for himself. And that he did. He scored his first goal for Newcastle in the 68th minute and followed it with a 90th minute winner. This was a dream start for the young Sissoko and an even bigger win for Newcastle as they look to make a run back into the top 10.

Arsenal played host to Stoke City. This was another game that the Gunners must win and they came out with their foot on the gas. They pressed hard but nothing was coming. They made two changes bringing on Podolski and Cazorla which changed their attack and added a different approach to their game. Podolski found the net with a free kick that took a deflection but a goal is a goal and Arsenal took their 3 points. Manchester United went to Fulham and found another 3 points behind the foot of Wayne Rooney.

On Sunday Tottenham traveled to West Brom in a game the Spur needed to win to keep the rest of the table at bay. Gareth Bale has been in top form recently and he continued that form with another game winning goal as Tottenham took a 1-0 win.

With United keeping pressure on City the noisy neighbors need to keep up if they want to have a shot at repeating their title. Dzeko has been in top form recently and he added to that with an early lead against Liverpool. But Liverpool struck back with an equalizer from Sturridge. Steven Gerrard took the lead for Liverpool with a wonder strike from 25 yards out. Feeling the pressure City fought back as Sergio Aguero was able to equalize form an acute angle and give City with one point.

Upcoming Games

Saturday

6:45 on ESPN2/3 – Tottenham vs Newcastle. Both teams are playing inspired football right now so it will be interesting to see who will win this one. I feel Tottenham will win behind their home fans.

9:00 AM on FSC – Chelsea Vs Wigan. Chelsea have been very poor as of late but Wigan have been worse. Chelsea should win easily but with this team you never really know.

11:30 AM on FSC – Southampton vs Manchester City. Another game that City should walk away with 3 points and I feel they will easily.

Sunday

7:30 AM on FSC – Aston Villa vs West Ham. Aston Villa have been poor with results but are seeming to put together some games quality games. Ill take the upset on this one with the Villains getting 3 points.

10:00 AM on FSC – Man U vs Everton. Man U have been solid while Everton have hit a rough patch. But remember that Everton won early in the season against United so this game really could be a toss up with a late winner likely to come from either side.
