US Opens Hexagonal Qualifying February 3rd

graham-zusi-US-MNTTime to book that half day of vacation now for the opening of Hexagonal qualifying on February 6th.

Via MLS Soccer – That’s when Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad open the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying in Honduras and on Wednesday the US Soccer Federation confirmed reports emerging from Central America that the match will kick off at 4 pm ET (3 pm local time).

The Honduras-USA meeting will mark the very first match of the CONCACAF Hex, with Panama-Costa Rica and Mexico-Jamaica taking place later at night on Feb. 6.

The Americans have fond memories of their last World Cup qualifier in Honduras, when they secured a 3-2 win to clinch a place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In fact, the USA are unbeaten away from home (3-0-1) in World Cup qualifiers against Honduras.

But this will arguably be the best Honduras side ever seen in CONCACAF qualifying, powered by several elements that ply their trade in MLS with potentially more arriving in the offseason transfer window. The Hondurans demolished Canada 8-1 in a do-or-die matched played at 2 pm local time in San Pedro Sula back in October.

Following the Feb. 6 opener, the USA will face a double FIFA fixture date with a home match against Costa Rica (March 22) which will lead into a daunting trip to the Azteca Stadium to take on Mexico (March 26).

Playing at 3pm in Honduras offers an advantage not unlike the US choice of cold weather games against our CONCACAF rivals whenever possible.

The Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) has announced its first class of Hall of Fame inductees. CBC coach and boys national high school soccer wins leader Terry Michler highlights the 2013 Inaugural MSHSSCA Hall of Fame Class.

Sacred Heart’s Rich Bahner gets in based on his long and successful career at the small school in “out-state” Missouri. Lee’s Summit North’s Tim Richardson also makes the cut for his work building elite teams on the Kansas City side.
