Drury Panthers Host UMSL in 1st Round GLVC Playoff Sunday

GLVC-soccer-championships-2012The Drury Panthers (12-3-2, 10-3-2, .733) received the No. 3 seed in the 2012 GLVC Soccer tournament after falling to Missouri S&T 2-0 in its regular-season finale on Wednesday. By finishing in the Top 4, Drury will host a first round playoff game on Sunday.

The Panthers will play host to No. 6 Missouri-St. Louis (10-6-1, 9-5-1, .633), a team that Drury defeated 2-1 back on Sept. 30. Gametime is 1 p.m. at Harrison Stadium on the Drury Campus.

UMSL is 4-1-1 against the other six teams in the conference tournament. The Tritons defeated No. 1 seeded Rockhurst, 1-0, in overtime; tied No. 2 seeded Quincy, 0-0; defeated No. 4 seeded Bellarmine, 2-1; defeated No. 7 seeded William Jewell, 1-0; and lost a 1-0 decision to No. 8 seeded Lewis. UMSL enters the game with a 5 game unbeaten streak. Goalie Patrick Ream, a senior, is a younger brother of Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers/SLU/St Dominic) and older brother of Logan Ream, a defender on the Triton’s who is out injured. Logan spent his freshman year with the Panthers.

The Panthers are ranked fifth in the NCAA Midwest Region, behind Quincy and Rockhurst in the Conference. The Top 4 teams in each Region advance to the NCAA Tourney generally with Final Selection set for Monday November 5th. There are no automatic Conference qualifiers. Thus the next two games are critical to the Panthers hope of advancing the the NCAA Tournament.
