(Springfield, Mo.) – Kendra Wood’s (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) goal in the 108th minute (pictured) gave the Missouri S&T Lady Miners a 2-1 double OT win over Washburn on Sunday in Springfield, Mo. It’s the first time the Lady Miners have started a season 2-0 since 2003 when they opened with three straight wins. Wood’s goal came directly from a corner kick as her teammate Jr Kelsey Salzman challenged the goal keeper, and the ball deflected into the goal. You can see my photo of the celebration on the Miner’s website.

It came after Friday’s win over Wayne State. Kelsey Salzman (Blue Springs, Mo./Notre Dame de Sion)’s breakaway goal in the 87th minute proved to be the difference in Missouri S&T’s season opening win over Wayne State (Neb.) 1-0 on a rainy Friday evening. It was the first season opening win for S&T since 2008 when it defeated Ashland 3-1 on the road.
I talked to Head Coach Joe McCauley after the game. Check out his comments.
