I asked Coach Joseph Florez of the Fair Grove Eagles to offer up a short summary of the season so far. I missed out on their inaugural year and was interested to hear how things were going. It should be noted that while they are actively competing, they are not yet eligible for Districts. I would expect them to be placed in District 12 in Spring 2013. Here it is for all of us to enjoy…
The Lady Eagles picked up their first Varsity win of the season at home, beating Dixon 3-2 in a hard-fought match. The Fair Grove Eagles are a first year team, with literally zero club experience. After the first two Fair Grove wins came against junior varsities early in the season, the Class 1 Eagles have struggled to score against a schedule full of almost entirely Class 2 and Class 3 schools, including two tournaments. The difficult schedule may have made things hard at times, regarding the wins and losses column, but it has clearly prepared the girls for solid competition.
Freshmen Jordan Robertson leads the team with six goals and one assist (two against Dixon). Captains Amanda McPhail (senior; front row, third from the left), Alyssah Orr (sophomore, second row, fourth from the left), and JoJo Hudgings (junior; back row, fifth from the left), have led the team up the middle, at goalkeeper, sweeper, and center-mid, respectively.
The Eagles are currently 3-11-1, and will return all but one starter next season.
