Emily Cline Gets Game Winner, Headed To Region II Tourney

Emily Cline, Glendale Falcons (2011)

Emily Cline, Glendale Falcons (2011)

The Post-Dispatch has the story from Wednesday’s U18 Girls Final at the Missouri State Cup:

Cline came off the SLSG Green Academy bench to score the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over SLSG Navy in the Under-18 women’s championship game Wednesday night at the Scott Gallagher Complex. SLSG Green Academy now advances to play in regionals later this month in Wisconsin.

Cline, who has signed to play both soccer and basketball at Drury University, scored late in the opening half after coming up with a steal.

“I got the ball and I went to the goal,’’ she said of her short-side shot. “My job is to come off the bench and to hopefully keep up the pressure that the starters were applying.’’

A style of play, with similar results, we saw frequently here in the Ozarks this past season. The team next plays in the Region 2 Tournament which will be held in the Fox Cities (Central) Wisconsin from June 25-29. The team has already qualified for the National tournament as well, via the US National League, which will be held July 27-31 in Phoenix.

Cline is also playing basketball for the Lady Panthers and the Pro-Am Court series has begun here in Springfield. You can find the roster and schedule on TAGsgf.com which shows possible conflicts on June 29th and July 27th for Emily :)

Missouri State Cup SemiFinals

Springfield SC 95/96 vs Lou Fusz Poupard, Quarterfinals

Springfield SC 95/96 vs Lou Fusz Poupard, Quarterfinals

Springfield SC captures it’s third State Title with the U16 boys win today over Raytown FC Billy Goat. The U15 and U17 Boys fell in the semifinals and we’re waiting on U14 scores.

U14 Boys Semifinals
Springfield SC –
Tony Glavin Celtic –
SSC faces the #8 ranked team in the State but also a team that lost to Lou Fusz Kargacin in group play, the same team SSC defeated 2-0 on Wednesday. SSC is currently unranked in the State but that should change following this tournament.

U15 Boys Semifinals
Springfield SC 95/96 – 0
Lou Fusz Geerling – 2
SSC faces the defending State Champions and number #1 ranked team in Missouri.

U16 Boys Final CHAMPIONS!
Springfield SC 94/95 – 2
Raytown SC Billy Goat – 1
SSC got goals fro Hunter Durham (Kickapoo) and Mitch Moncada (Catholic) in today’s win. Durham was later ejected in the 2nd half on a red card offense but the team held on for the win. They came close to extending their lead while playing with 10 as Josh McCutcheon (Kickapoo) hit the upright and Dallas Moses hit the crossbar.

Raytown SC BG defeated last years 2nd place finishers SLSG Premier 4-3 in overtime, coming back from a 1-3 deficit to tie the game and get the winner in OT (it’s not golden goal in Cup, it’s a pair of 10 min periods). As one parent noted, the Final will feature two non-St Louis teams today!

U17 Boys Semifinals
Springfield SC – 4
Scott Gallagher Gold – 5
Quite a bit of offense in this match but not enough for the home boys.

No score is posted on the MYSA site but more importantly, the SSC squad is written into the semifinal slot against the Scott Gallagher Gold team today at 3:00 pm. Gallagher played to a scoreless draw against Lou Fusz Gregory team during Group play, the team beaten by SSC on Wednesday in the Quarterfinals.

USA MNT Faces Guadeloupe Tonight In KC, 8pm on FSC

Soccer-Gold-Cup-Panama-USAA WIN IS THE WAY TO RFK: After a successful start to the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 2-0 win against Canada in Detroit, the U.S. was upset by Panama in the second match, setting up a Group C finale which has more significance than anyone in the U.S. camp had hoped. A win in the first all-time meeting with Guadeloupe sends the U.S. to RFK Stadium for a quarterfinal as either the first or second place team in the group.

Kickoff at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., is slated for 8 p.m. CT (tickets) and the match will be broadcast live on FOX Soccer, TeleFutura, CONCACAF.com and univision.com. Fans can follow the action with updates from ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer. In the first game of the night, Canada faces group leaders Panama with a 6 p.m. CT kickoff. The U.S. team will be paying close attention to the first match of the night, as the result dictates the possible scenarios for U.S. placement in the group.

SCENARIOS: While several scenarios exist, the bottom line is that a U.S. win in Kansas City, Kan., will clinch a top-two finish in the group and a berth to the quarterfinals in Washington, D.C. The U.S. has the advantage of playing the last game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage and will know exactly what is needed to advance. The best chance for the U.S. to win the group would be a Canada win against Panama by one or two goals; however, a 3-0 win for Canada also provides for scenarios in which the U.S. could advance. In terms of a quarterfinal opponent, if the U.S. finishes second in the group they will play either Honduras or Jamaica. A first-place finish would see the U.S. play the third place team from either Group A or B.

Missouri State Cup – Knockout Round

Cooper, Springfield SC 96/97

Cooper, Springfield SC 96/97

UPDATE3 – schedules have been changed significantly. I’ve tried to get them all updated below.
UPDATE2 – I’ve added a press release from Springfield SC with additional background on their teams. Springfield SC press release – 2011 State Cup
UPDATE – All games Tuesday canceled due to rain and field conditions. Moved to same time Wednesday.

Emily Cline (Glendale) and Shelby Hatz (Catholic) are members of the U18 SLSG Navy squad that will play in the Final on Tuesday Wednesday. In addition, a pair of finals in U17 Girls and U19 Boys that each feature individual Springfield players (Molly Brewer and Skyler Russell) while Springfield SC has four teams (14, 15, 17, 18) in the Quarterfinals and one in a semifinal (16). Columbia Pride U18′s also reached the Quarterfinals. Schedules and updates below.

PHOTOS will be available later tonight and tomorrow for U15 Boys, U18 Boys and U19 Boys

Springfield SC 95-96 vs Lou Fusz Poupard, U15 Missouri State Cup 2011

Springfield SC 95-96

U15 Boys Quarterfinals
Springfield SC 95/96 – 2
Lou Fusz Poupard – 1
After a scoreless first half, the boys came out with some better organization and put pressure on Lou Fusz from the start. They finally broke through in the 52nd minute when Blake Weber’s shot rolled into an open net as the goalkeeper slipped coming out to it when it spun back towards the net (video below). Unfortunately some lackadaisical defending 8 min later allowed Lou Fusz to tie the score when a loose ball in the box was buried from 8 yards.

PHOTO GALLERY

The game-winner came in stoppage time when following a cross, the ball was pushed back out to the left and the cross back in was headed by up and over the goalkeeper, falling just under the crossbar. Three minutes of defending later and the boys are now headed to the semifinals against Lou Fusz Geerling at 9am Thursday.

U16 Boys Semifinals
Springfield SC 94/95 – 1
Doran Hundelt – 0
The team got the game winner when Turner Adams scored from Mitch Moncada’s cross. It sends them through to the Finals where they will play Raytown BGFC who defeated SLSG Premier 4-3 in overtime. As one parent noted, the Final will feature two non-St Louis teams tomorrow! Game time is 9 am.

U19 Boys Final
Scott Gallagher – 4
KC Futura – 0
Played on the artificial surface at the Gallagher Complex, the home squad overran the visitors from KC who brought 12 players to STL this weekend. Adnan Gabeljic, the SLU sophomore, scored the first three, getting his 1st in the 30th min from close range. A cross from the left by Logan North (brother Mason graduated from Drury this year) was collected, a challenge shrugged off and a goal. In the second half, Matt Hutchinson’s (Drury 2014) run down the left allowed him to turn the corner. His initial square ball went through the box where it was collected by Zach Walters. The rebound of his shot fell to Adnan on the edge of the six-yard box and he poked it in. The third goal came from a breakaway as the Kings pushed forward. After that it was time for me to head to the SSC U18 match.

U18 Boys Quarterfinals
Springfield SC – 1
Scott Gallagher Premier – 2
The defending champions moved on today after coming from behind. SSC opened the scoring in the 42nd when Jordan Houseman (Parkview) got to a ball in the box sent through by Parker Maher from the left. Caught flat-footed, Houseman tipped it past the keeper and just inside the upright.

The second half belonged to Gallagher when 12 minutes in, an own goal on a set piece sent into the box allowed them to tie the score. SSC didn’t show the same verve they had in the first in taking the game to Gallagher. A slide tackle in the box led to a penalty kick in the 69th that was converted for the ultimate game-winner. Gallagher goes on to face Lou Fusz Cooper in the semifinal. Cooper is coached by Andy Cooper (Missouri State Bears) and his former teammate Brett Williams with the Bears and at Oakville High School.

Logan Ponche, Francis Howell Central/Drury Panthers, after PK save

Logan Ponche

U18 Boys Quarterfinals: 3:00 pm – Sportport #3
Columbia Pride – 0
Lou Fusz Cooper – 3
A pair of late goals, following a blocked penalty kick, propelled Lou Fusz to the victory today over the Pride team made up of veterans of the last two State Final 4 (Hickman 2009, Rock Bridge 2010). The PK save by Logan Ponche (Francis Howell North) gave his teammates the energy they needed to finish the match on a strong note. Ponche is a Drury Panther signee as is Derek Hoerman (Francis Howell Central), who buried a cross into the box in the final minutes of the game for the final score.

U18 Girls Final: 8:00 pm – Scott Gallagher Park
SLSG Navy – 0
SLSG Green Academy – 1
Looks like Shelby Hatz has a second State Championship ring to add to her collection for 2011. She and Emily Cline are part of the SLSG Green Academy team that won that Cup Final today. It’s the second State Cup for the Green squad, compared to three for the Navy squad, according to this article on the two teams from the Post-Dispatch.

U14 Boys Quarterfinals
Springfield SC – 2
Lou Fusz Kargacin – 0
Their third win, the second straight by shutout, sends the boys into the semifinals on Thursday against Tony Glavin Lions Celtic squad. Game time is 1:30 pm.

U17 Boys Quarterfinals
Springfield SC -
Lou Fusz Gregory –
No score is posted on the MYSA site but more importantly, the SSC squad is written into the semifinal slot against the Scott Gallagher Gold team tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Gallagher played to a scoreless draw against Lou Fusz Gregory team during Group play.

U17 Girls Final
Gallagher IL – 1
Gallagher Green – 0
Molly Brewer earns a State Championship medal as she and her teammates win again.

Mamba’s Girls Soccer Tryouts June 15th & 17th

Mamba SoccerHigh School Girls – Select Tryouts will be held at Lake Country Soccer in Springfield, Missouri on June 15th and June 17th, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. both nights. We will be on field #8 which is the furthest SW field on the South side of the soccer complex/building. Bring water and bring a soccer ball with you!

Mamba HS Girls 2011 Tryouts Flyer

Please feel free to pass this information and flyer on to anyone else who may be interested. Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone at tryouts!

Please forward to anyone you believe has the potential to help this program show well in college showcase events.

Notes of Clarification:
1) Yes we are by definition a “club” due to having more than 1 team, but “No” we are not a club from the aspect of making a living off of multiple teams and multiple players paying. We are very specific and taking only the best talent, best athlete, and best soccer player(s) to form 1, 2 or max. of 3 select teams to help them get exposure for college and to prepare them to compete at the college level which is very physical and very demanding.
2) Yes we feel that “all” clubs and teams in the SW Missouri area provide great enthusiasm, passion and heart for the recreational player. But we also feel that only two programs have the contacts, the experience, the reputation, and the knowledge to take a select group of competitive players to an elite level, and get them the exposure to be recruited for the college game. Knowing what event to get into is step one, getting accepted is step two, and then actually competing well is step three. One of the Springfield area clubs entered USYSA State Cup ill prepared to compete and just lost to my sons team 5-0 yesterday and the few college coaches that were there left early in the first half with laughter on their face.
3) Yes we take multi sport athletes and work with their schedule. The goal is to make the best team not exclusively soccer players.
4) Yes we financially assist any one in need so we can make this program affordable for anyone. The goal is to make the best team not the most expensive.
5) Yes we want those that are academically focused and will work around academic competitions. We are not exclusively soccer as those with grades, test scores and academic achievements are placed at a higher level when being recruited because coaches know they can get into college, and know they can use Academic and Athletic money combined to pay for their school, not exclusively athletic money. These types of athletes are a priority when being recruited and we stress that to all players and families. We still want only the best athlete but we understand and support the strength of academics. The goal is to make the best team!
6) We DO WANT non-Springfield players in addition to Springfield players and we DO work our practice schedules around travel/drive time for out of town players. We are not school based or city based. The goal is to make the best team not the best high school team for spring school season.
7) We are NOT trying to break up teams or steal players. We are trying to give the opportunity to many who are stuck that want a chance to play at top college programs but KNOW they are stuck in a system that will NOT give them the real opportunity necessary. If just playing for kicks and grins you are fine. if wanting to play on scholarship at a known college soccer program then choices are few, and WE WANT YOU!

There is a difference and there are choices, just research results, and talk with former players who actually are playing in college.

KC wins big

Sporting KC snapped a 10-game winless streak in MLS play with a 4-1 win over FC Dallas Sunday night.

KC (2-4-6) struck first when Graham Zusi scored in the 28th, but Dallas (7-4-3) evened things up with a goal four minutes later.

Aurélien Collin put KC up for good in the 49th minute, and Zusi and Luke Sassano added the insurance.

With the win, KC is now undefeated in their last four MLS matches. They tied three straight games before breaking through to hand a red-hot Dallas team their first loss in 10 games.

KC beat the defending MLS Cup finalists despite missing nine players due to international tournaments, injury or suspensions.

Sporting return home Friday to take on San Jose.

Missouri State Cup – Day Two

UPDATED – photos and videos Another nice day on the pitch ahead of us as temps started out in the low 70′s and aren’t supposed to exceed 79 later this afternoon. Slight cloud cover, it’s pretty sweet compared to what we’ve experienced in the past.

Springfield SC
Four teams competing today, with Boys 13-16 games. Early results include a 1-1 tie for the 15s, A loss for the 13s, a 5-1 win for the 14′s and the 16′s shut down Inter 7-0. Video below of U14′s game-winner.

The 13′s need a win to advance, 14′s play for a Quarterfinal spot as well, 15′s need a win to advance, the 16′s are in control in their group needing only a tie, 17′s advance with a win or a tie as do the 18′s who were idle today.

Total Demize SC
Three teams competing today, Boys 16, 17 and 19. First result has the 16s falling to Gallagher Elite 0-5, the 17′s lost to Gallagher Elite 2-5 and the 19′s lost 1-2.

The 16′s will not advance but will battle for a win against Gallagher, also winless. The 17′s were also knocked out of the group title chase but will face Columbia Pride Blue for 2nd place in the group. The 19′s were eliminated in a close game today.

Central Missouri
Mid MO 13 Girls appear to have advanced with a wild card spot, despite losing today. Carrera 16 Girls gets shut out 0-5 and are will not advance out of group play, nor will the Pride 18 Girls who finish against Lou Fusz tomorrow.

CSC Pride send the U13 boys through to the quarterfinals, 14′s lose and will not advance, the 17 Blue squad plays Total Demize for pride points and apparently the 17 White squad is done? No game today against Ajax, the pitch was empty at the scheduled 5pm start with word of a forfeit by one of the teams. Gallagher Elite is shown with a 4-0 win against the Pride on Monday already and advance apparently. The 18′s lost 1-2 to Gallagher who advance out of the group.

U13 Boys
Springfield SC – 1
WC STL Wurdack – 2
SSC fall, putting them in a 2nd place tie in the group and facing the current number 1, Gallagher, in the final group game tomorrow. A win is necessary to possibly move on to the knock-out round.

CSC Pride – 4
Woodson City Rangers -3
The Pride win in a high scoring match that guarantees a spot in the Quarterfinals on Tuesday as the #1 team in their 3 team bracket, with 4 points from a tie and a win.

U14 Boys
Springfield SC – 5
WC STL White – 1
SSC got a pair of early goals today, the first from Cooper Dunn on a header (video below). A breakaway by Josh Ellerbee and Logan Tyler’s 26 yard direct kick (video) and the boys in red were off to the races inside of 25 minutes today. A fourth goal by Alex Gathright and an own goal completed the score line for SSC, who gave up a late PK to WC.

The team plays Monday for a spot in the Quarterfinals. They face Mid Rivers Miller who beat WC 4-0 on Saturday. The loss of focus late, giving up the PK goal, deny them the goal differential advantage going into this game. The boys will need to do a better job of using their width and the attacking capabilities of their backs to ensure they advance. It was too easy to become addicted today to the direct ball against a weak defense. They have the tools necessary but will need greater discipline.

CSC PRIDE 96/97 – 1
SLSG GERMANY 96/97 – 2
The loss, combined with a draw in their first game Saturday, means the Pride will not advance out of the Group stage.

U15 Boys
Springfield SC – 1
Futura Academy – 1
Futura currently sits atop the group with 4 points and await the results of SSC’s game against Lou Fusz tomorrow. A win by more than 3 goals ensures the boys advance, a win positions them for a possible wildcard spot with 4 points.

U16 Boys
Springfield SC – 7
Inter – 0
The win puts SSC at the top of their group with 6 points from 2 wins. A win or a tie on Monday against Futura, who are 1-1, ensures they advance.

Total Demize SC – 0
Gallagher Elite – 5
The loss eliminated TDSC from contention. They’ll wrap up their tournament with a game against SLSG Green who are also out of the running.

U17 Boys
Total Demize – 2
Gallagher Premier – 5
The Demize fell after giving up 3 goals in the first 13 minutes, the first a tap-in after the GK stopped an initial shot but the rebound was not cleared. Gallagher eventually scored all five in the first half but to TDSC’s credit, they outscored them from the 44th minute on. The first goal was scored in stoppage time in the first half as the boys finally finished an opportunity, having seen several go by the wayside earlier. Then midway through the second half another goal was created after a nice build up. This team has skill, pace and worked hard throughout but could not match the STL squad across all 11 players. A lineup change in the second half also tightened up the defense and led to the advantage gained. A fair result and for me, a nice look at a good group of players that will positively impact their high school teams in the Fall.

U18 Boys
Columbia Pride – 1
Gallagher Elite – 2

U19 Boys
Total Demize – 1
KC Blaze – 2

U13 Girls
Mid MO United – 0
Gallagher Premier Navy – 2
With 3 points from a win and a loss, the team is positioned for a wild card spot it appears.

U16 Girls
Carrera SC – 0
WC STL Academy – 5
With their loss, the Columbia girls will not advance out of the group. Their final game on Monday will be against Mid Rivers Larsen/Blue who are the group leaders with 6 points from 2 games.

U17 Girls
SLSG IL 93/94 – 3
JB Marine Devereux – 0
A second straight shut out win for the Gallagher girls means a win or a tie will advance them to the Final. They play JB Marine Bozesky who have 4 points and need a win to advance.

U18 Girls
Columbia Pride – 0
Gallagher Navy – 8
A loss to the group leader means tomorrows game against Lou Fusz will be for pride.
