2011 Miner Boys Prep Soccer Camp – July 30th

Missouri S&T LogoROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T men’s soccer coach Joe Ahearn has announced that the 2011 Miner Boys Prep Soccer Camp will take place Saturday, July 30 at the S&T Soccer Field from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The camp is open for players from the ninth to the 12th grades and costs $50 if the registration form is turned in before July 22; after that date it increases to $60. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Due to space restrictions, campers are asked to register by July 23.

“The objective for this camp is to provide the committed soccer player the opportunity to train and be evaluated by the Missouri S&T soccer staff in a competitive training environment,” Ahearn said.

The field sessions will focus on the development of technical and tactical awareness through speed of play, small-sided and 8-vs.-8 games. There will also be information sessions on the recruiting process, player development and the demands of a college student-athlete.

Annie Clark, McAuley Warriors (20xx) with diving save

District 12 is our Home District and they open with a semifinal game today. District 11 will produce the Sectional opponent and Districts 9 and 10 the Quarterfinal foe.

District 12:
#2 McAuley Warriors – 3
#3 Greenwood Blue Jays – 1
The Warriors got off to a fast start, with Sammi Graham breaking getting a break-away goal 3:30 into the game tonight. Graham scored a 2nd midway through the half before the Blue Jays finally got some offensive action of their own started. That made her 3rd goal of the evening, scored in stoppage time in the first half, that much more difficult to respond to. Respond they did however, with Senior Sydney Ganus capping her career with a goal from a corner kick, slotting her shot just inside the upright after it bounced out to her near the penalty spot. That would be final goal as 1st year keeper Annie Clark blunted several good opportunities for the Jays, including a diving save (pictured) into a crowd in the final 3 minutes.

AJ Cochran, CBC Cadets, Named Missouri Gatorade POY

AJ Cochran, Scott Gallagher MO (CBC Cadets, 2011)

AJ Cochran, Scott Gallagher MO (CBC Cadets, 2011)

CHICAGO (February 23, 2011) — In its 26th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, today announced Alec Cochran of Christian Brothers College High School as its 2010-11 Gatorade Missouri Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Cochran is the second Gatorade Missouri Boys Soccer Player of the Year to be chosen from Christian Brothers College High School.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Cochran as Missouri’s best high school boys soccer player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May, Cochran joins an elite alumni association of past state award-winners in 12 sports, including Alexi Lalas (1987-88, Cranbrook HS, Mich.), Derek Jeter (1991-92, Kalamazoo HS, Mich.), Candace Parker (2001-02, Naperville Central HS, Ill.), Kevin Garnett (1992-93, Maudlin HS, S.C.), Tony Meola (1986-87, Kearney HS, N.J.) and Mark Sanchez (2004-05, Mission Viejo HS, Calif.).

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior defender anchored a defense that posted 14 shutouts this past season, leading the Cadets (20-8-2) to the Round of 16 at the Class 3 state tournament. An All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Cochran is a member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Men’s National Team Player Pool. He was the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 3 Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro selection.

Kickapoo grad kicks it out west

Two of Major League Soccer’s most passionate fan bases were on display on ESPN2 Saturday night as the Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers played to a 1-1 draw in the Emerald City.

With the Timbers trailing 1-0 in the second half, Kickapoo alum Jack Jewsbury sailed a kick into the box and off the head of forward Mamadou Danso for the equalizer.

Jewsbury, who graduated from Kickapoo in ’99 and went on to star at St. Louis University, played eight seasons in Kansas City before being traded to Portland in March.

Jewsbury scored 124 goals during his high school career but he has had a knack for setting up his teammates since joining Portland. He is tied for the team lead with four assists.

The Timbers have ridden one of the league’s best crowds to a 4-0 start at home. Away from home, the team is still searching for its first win, going 0-3-2 on the road in the early going.

Check Jewsbury and the Timbers out on ESPN on July 10 when they host Seattle, or go see him in person when Portland comes to KC on Aug. 17.
