Class 3 Playoffs – Parkview Gets 1st District Title

Parkview Vikings, Class 3 District 12 Champions 2011

Parkview Vikings, Class 3 District 12 Champions 2011

UPDATE – District 10 Finals at Camdenton are moved to Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the soccer field. If we can’t go tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., we’ll go Saturday afternoon before graduation. Waynesville has graduation tomorrow night, so that’s why we’d have to play early on Friday. Just a heads up. No worries. Can’t fight mother nature. One more day to prepare!

We’ll know three two of the four Sectional teams vying for a single spot in the State Final 4 by the end of the evening. The fourth slot will be determined tomorrow when Glendale and Nixa play. Note that there may be a time change on that game to try and avoid weather issues.

District 10 Final: at Camdenton, moved to 1:00 pm FRIDAY
#1 Camdenton Lakers vs #3 Waynesville Tigers

District 12 Final: Harrison Stadium, 6:30 pm
#1 Parkview Vikings – 2
#2 Joplin Eagles – 0
Parkview was able to get a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the game tonight and ride that cushion to the first ever District title for the Girls program. The first goal was scored by sophomore Emily Courtney from a corner kick. Soon afterwards, Courtney provided an outlet for the defense and made a 40 yard run down the left hand side of the pitch before sending a square ball to Kelsey Loderhose. Kelsey received the ball, did a quick counter-clockwise move and sent a low hard shot across to the far post.

The game was a back-and-forth affair as both teams pushed hard in their pursuit of the hardware. Joplin came out much more organized in the second half and were able to put more pressure on the Vikings but the best opportunities came from several corner kicks in the final 15 minutes. The Vikings were not to be denied however and were able to blunt the Eagle’s efforts to get any closer.

The Vikings are chasing win their first District title, in their first visit to the Title game in 11 years. Joplin last earned the hardware three years ago. Parkview beat Joplin 2-1 on April 12th at home. Kelsey Loderhose got both goals in a 15 minute window of the first half, the first on a PK and the second on a direct kick. Anna Banwart scored for Joplin in the second half.

The winner will host the Glendale/Nixa winner on Tuesday, May 24th in the Sectional game.

In Kansas City, Lee’s Summit West hosts Ray-Pec tonight for the District Title, the winner will host Lee’s Summit North in one of the two Sectionals in the Metro area. Liberty awaits the winner of the Park Hill South/Truman game that is being played tomorrow.

Presidents Cup Competition at Lake Country Soccer

Presidents Cup LogoThere are three levels of national competition in US Soccer. The highest level is the US Soccer Development Academy program, represented by the Sporting KC Juniors and the Scott Gallagher Missouri and Metro (IL) programs in metro St Louis. The second level is represented by the US Youth National Championships, including the Missouri State Cup, scheduled for early June this year in St Louis. The third level is the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup. The Missouri competition for Boys is being held this weekend in Springfield.

There are four Age Brackets (U14 to U17). Representatives from this region competing this weekend include:
U15 – Cobras 96, OPSA Inferno 95/96, Springfield SC II, Total Demize SC 95/96
U16 – Springfield SC 94-95, SSC Fury 94/95,
U17 – Vehr Factor 93/94

Vehr Factor, as the only registered team from Missouri, will automatically advance to the Regional Championships June 16-19 in South Bend, IN.

Schedules for the games are now part of my Soccer Calendar (in the right sidebar) or
Download U16 Boys Schedule – MO Presidents Cup
Download U15 Boys Schedule – MO President’s Cup

Girls Champions
U14 – St. Louis Scott Gallagher Navy 96/97
U15 – Missouri Elite ’96
U16 – None
U17 – St. Louis Scott Gallagher Red 93/94

The Presidents Cup provides an opportunity for competitive teams, who do not intend to participate in State Cup, to play in a national tournament series. Winners of the Missouri President’s Cup will advance to the Regional Presidents Cup tournament, which will be held June 16-19, 2011 in South Bend, Indiana. All Regional winners will then advance to the National Presidents Cup, which will be held July 7 – 10, 2011 at the James W. Crownie Soccer Park in Des Moines, Iowa.

Semi-finalists from the previous year’s State Cup are not allowed to participate in the subsequent year’s Presidents Cup. Also, if you win Presidents Cup, you are not allowed to participate in that year’s State Cup. So if your team goes the Presidents Cup and wins, you cannot play State Cup in June, since your team will be the Missouri representative at the Regional Presidents Cup.

Missouri Elite FC is a “girls-only” soccer club based in Springfield since 2003. The club was created to develop a competitive environment for female athletes. Youth teams focus on skill development and fostering a true passion for the sport while older teams continue to advance their knowledge and abilities in preparation to take their game to the next level. The key club goals are to meet the needs of female players and to open doors to college scholarships/opportunities. To that end, we have produced over 25 athletes going on to play in college and many others that had offers they chose not to accept. Whatever your soccer background/playing experience, we are here to help you achieve your goals.

Class 3 Girls Playoffs – Glendale Gets Nixa

Lauren Moats (#6, Nixa) scores game winner

Lauren Moats (#6, Nixa) scores game winner

Tonight District 11, the toughest District in the Region regardless of class, will determine who advances to the Final. In Columbia, Rock Bridge and Jefferson City will determine a District Champion.

District 12: at Harrison Stadium in Springfield, Final on Thursday between #1 Parkview Vikings vs #2 Joplin Eagles

Emily Cline, Glendale Falcons (2011)

Emily Cline, Glendale Falcons (2011)

District 11: at Ozark, Final Friday time TBD due to weather forecast
#1 Glendale Falcons – 5
#4 Ozark Tigers – 0
Glendale created their first opportunity 20 seconds into the game when Courtney Wampler’s run down the left side resulted in a shot just wide of the near post. It took Ozark about five minutes to settle down before they were able to create their own opportunities but as they did, jr Drianne Raff broke in on the right side requiring Jayme Braun to clear a ball from behind her keeper.

Braun was in position for that clearance because the Tigers attempted to slow down Emily Cline by having their senior midfielder man-mark her. That’s a difficult proposition, with only Catholic shutting her out this year. Cline broke the deadlock in the 22nd when, in a foot race with Braun, she went to the ground to get off her shot as the keeper came out to challenge. Braun and Mikaela Branson went down hard, the ball found the back of the net and the Falcon’s had jump started their offense.

Cline scored a second in the 30th minute when a through ball sent her in alone, she skipped past the GK’s challenge and sent the ball into an open net (pictured above). The Falcon’s got three more in the second half, from Alix Opfer from a corner kick, Sarah Powell on a thru ball she slipped past the keeper and Molly Brewer who volleyed a corner kick just inside the upright.

Katy Lynn, Kickapoo (white) challenging Kristin Miller, Nixa (green)

Katy Lynn, Kickapoo (white) challenging Kristin Miller, Nixa (green)

#2 Kickapoo Chiefs – 0
#3 Nixa Eagles – 1
The season ended for the Chiefs tonight much the way it started. An untimely foul, just outside the box in the 55th minute, led to the game-winning goal for the Eagles tonight. Senior Shelby Zielke set up just outside the box on the left side, her ball into the box saw the Chief’s GK and senior defender Kaylee Stephens crumple to the ground following a collision between the teammates as they went for the ball and Nixa capitalized. The ball fell to Courtney Frerichs, her shot was deflected to the right side and junior Lauren Moats was there to chest the ball into the net (pictured at top).

The Chief’s came out strong this evening, controlling the majority of play in the first half as Nixa played well below their ability. Kickapoo were unable to take advantage of the opportunity, although senior Katy Lynn came close twice with strong efforts inside the box and a set piece of their own, in the 54th minute, seemed destined for the near corner until Kristin Miller corralled it.

The Eagles have moved Brittany Kirkpatrick into a stopper role and you won’t find a player more capable of destroying an opposing teams attack, with her pace, attitude and non-stop play. The challenge for the Eagle’s will be whether they will be capable of blunting the Falcon’s potent offense. A key element will be to spread the field, something they didn’t do very effectively tonight. Trying to go down the middle against Brewer, Opfer and Yoakam is a challenge. If they can get Paige Townsend and Courtney Frerichs creating opportunities down the wing, it will reduce Glendale’s strength down the middle and give Moats and Haist an opportunity to create the offense Nixa will need to beat Glendale. It was 1-0 last time, on a Cline header.

District 10: at Camdenton, Final on Thursday between #1 Camdenton Lakers vs #3 Waynesville Tigers

District 9: at Columbia Hickman, Final
#1 Rock Bridge Bruins – 3
#2 Jeff City Jays – 0

Sectional Games on Tuesday May 24th, the host will be the winners of District 9 and 11 (Odd year, Odd Districts host Sectionals)

Class 2 Missouri Girls Soccer – Harrisonville Wins

Harrisonville Wildcats, 2011 District 12 Champions

Harrisonville Wildcats, 2011 District 12 Champions (from wildcat-soccer.blogspot.com)

Will Bolivar be able to win against the defending District champs? As one coach from the region noted, they have the best offense with Jonna Welch and Sarah Magana but Harrisonville has four players headed for future college playing careers.

District 12: at Harrisonville, Final
#1 Bolivar Liberators – 0
#2 Harrisonville Wildcats – 7

The winner advances to the Sectional game, scheduled Tuesday May 24th at Logan-Rogersville according to the report I got Tuesday following the Wildcats win.

District 11: #2 Logan-Rogersville Wildcats earned their first ever District title and will host the winner of District 12 next Tuesday

District 10: #1 Helias Crusaders advance to the Sectional next Tuesday against the winner of District 9, being determined Thursday at Moberly.

District 9: at Moberly, Final Thursday between #1 Moberly Spartans and #4 Hannibal Pirates.

Class 1 Girls Soccer – Catholic Gets Dixon

Springfield Catholic, District Champions - 2011

Springfield Catholic, District Champions - 2011

Three of the four regional winners will be determined tonight. Locally, it’s Catholic vs McAuley at Cooper Soccer Complex while the Sectional foe will be determined in St James (District 11).

District 12: at Greenwood Stadium Field in Springfield, Final
#1 Catholic Fighting Irish – 6
#2 McAuley Warriors – 0
Catholic got goals from Lydia Holtmann (2), Rebecca Mayus, Shelby Hatz, Bekah Bade and Natalie Smid in the win, their 11th straight District Title.

District 11: In St James, Final
#2 Dixon Bulldogs – 2
#1 St James Tigers – 1

District 10: in Sedalia, Final
#1 St Paul Lutheran – 2
#3 Sacred Heart – 1

Sacred Heart clobbered Stover 9-0 but I had to go to the Sedalia Democrat to find that info. How hard is it to report to MSHSAA? The Gremlins are the hosts, you think they’d be excited to report that score. I’m rooting for St Paul Lutheran tonight!

District 9: In Ashland, Final Thursday between #1 Southern Boone and #2 Fatima

The winners advance to the Sectional game on Tuesday May 24th. The Home team will be the Odd District if the info I got from Logan-Rogersville about hosting the Class 2 Sectional holds. Last years

Middle School Final Will Feature Nixa vs Pershing

Cherokee vs Pershing, Middle School semifinal

Cherokee vs Pershing, Middle School semifinal

UPDATED – The semifinals of the Spring Varsity Middle School Girls playoffs were held Monday evening.

Cherokee Indians – 0
Pershing Generals – 2
The General’s scored a pair of goals in the first half and they were able to hold the lead in the second half against a spirited Cherokee team that has already learned the importance of beating their East side foes. Should bode well for future meetings as the girls graduate to Kickapoo and Glendale.

Nixa Eagles – 5
Catholic Fightin’ Irish – 1
In as strong an example as you can get regarding the changing of the guard (I’m listening to Steely Dan!), it was Nixa that came out on top in this match.

UPDATE – as Bob Jordan notes in the comments, the loss ends two streaks for Catholic. The first is their 3 year run of Championships, which included beating Nixa in the Final the past two years. It also ends their longer 11 year run of playing in the Middle School Final. Check out the Middle School History Page here.

The Final between Pershing and Nixa will be played Friday night, 7:30 pm at the Greenwood Stadium Field. Nixa won 3-2 over Pershing in early May, scoring 3 in the first half and giving up 2 in the second half but holding on for the win.

Graduation ceremonies Monday and Tuesday for the Springfield teams. Parkview and Central celebrated last night, will that impact their game today?

District 12: at Harrison Stadium in Springfield, Semifinals
#1 Parkview Vikings – 6
#5 Central Bulldogs – 2
Kelsey Loderhose scores five as Parkview advances. Molly Robb also scored for the Vikings so these two seniors were obviously unaffected by last nights post-ceremony celebrations.

#2 Joplin Eagles – 2
#3 Willard Tigers – 0
The Eagles scored both goals off of set pieces this evening. Corner kicks, one in each half. Ashlea Norman and Kelly Stringer were the goal scorers.

Joplin reaches District Final

Final on Thursday, Willard was the defending champion so we’ll see a new Title holder this year.

District 11: at Ozark, Semifinals Wednesday and Final Friday
#1 Glendale vs #4 Ozark Tigers
#2 Kickapoo Chiefs vs #3 Nixa Eagles

District 10: at Camdenton, Final on Thursday
#1 Camdenton Lakers – 7
#4 Lebanon Yellowjackets – 1
Megan Weber, pictured above scoring her 2nd goal for Camdenton, was joined by Miriam Taylor who also had two goals in the win over Lebanon. Camdenton’s goals were scored by Miriam Taylor (2), Ashleigh Paschel, Mackenzie Manzer, Cassie Hale and Megan Weber (2). Abbi Zimmerman scored for Lebanon.

Camdenton, Mo. — The Camdenton Lady Lakers asserted themselves early in a monumental 7-1 hammering of Lebanon that clinched the first 20-win girls’ soccer season in Camdenton High School history.

#2 Rolla Bulldogs – 1
#3 Waynesville Tigers – 3

District 9: at Columbia Hickman, Final on Wednesday
#1 Rock Bridge Bruins vs #2 Jeff City Jays

Rock Bridge Defeats Hickman – Marc VanDover has shown a knack for getting the most out of his Rock Bridge girls soccer team late in the season. Under his leadership, the Bruins have won back-to-back district championships and last season continued their postseason charge all the way to the MSHSAA Class 3 Championship semifinals.

Sectional Games on Tuesday May 24th, the host will be the winners of District 10 and 12.
