Tax deadline a reminder to file FAFSA

fafsaA timely reminder from Ozark Technical Community College for all parents and students!

For those students planning to attend OTC or their parents, it is a good idea to keep your just-completed income tax returns out for a day or two before you file them away.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is the form students must complete in order to determine how much financial aid he or she is eligible to receive.

Several forms are needed to complete the application; completed 2010 tax forms, 2010 W-2 forms, 1099 forms and other statements of interest earned. The sooner the FAFSA is completed and submitted, the sooner students will learn what sort of financial aid they could receive.

The 2011-12 application form has an improved layout online for an easier and more accurate application process; it is free and available online at www.fafsa.gov

“We definitely don’t recommend waiting. If additional documentation is required or your FAFSA is selected for the verification process, it could add 8-12 weeks to the usual processing time. However, remember that in order to meet the priority deadline for 2011-12, the college must receive your FAFSA results no later than July 1, 2011,” said Kim Cary, assistant director of financial aid and coordinator of federal programs.

Monday Games – Glendale Gets Shutout Win

Tonight’s game with District impact is Glendale’s visit to Nixa. The winner of this game will likely be one of the top 2 seeds in mid-May.

Nixa Eagles – 0
Glendale Falcons – 1
A first half goal by Emily Cline, via header, on an assist by Molly Brewer was enough for the win at Nixa tonight. The win puts Glendale atop the mid-season rankings pile having beaten Kickapoo and Nixa now. Still plenty of time for that to change, especially in the last week of the season when they’ll face both Kickapoo and Catholic (the latter a bragging rights game).

Hillcrest Hornets – 0
Willard Tigers – 6
Macie Cotter 2, Haley Harrison, Lindsey Owens 2, Lindsey Brooks

Parkview Vikings – 6
Branson Pirates – 0

Carl Junction Bulldogs – 3
Neosho Wildcats – 1

Joplin Eagles – 1
Ozark Tigers – 2

Central Bulldogs – 3
Mt View/Liberty Eagles – 7

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Today

Lionel Messi, Barcelona

Lionel Messi, Barcelona

It begins today, 3 pm CDT 4pm on ESPN3.com. Where will you be watching?

Four battles, one war: Winner takes all for Barcelona and Real Madrid

White Hart Lane’s final whistle became the clásico series’ starting pistol, but both participants had already been up and running for some time. This was confirmation of what has long been coming: Barcelona versus Real Madrid. Over and over and over again. Losing track is understandable, so grab a pen and take it down: Madrid and Barcelona play each other on 16 April in the league, on 20 April in the Copa del Rey final, and on 27 April and 3 May in the Champions League semi-final.

All four games are on the Calendar link under the Resources Page.

José Mourinho’s intensity steels Real Madrid for Barcelona battle

This weekend Barça motor to the Bernabéu for the first of four Catalan-Castillian barnburners inside 18 days. Even without such provocations Mourinho always turns snake-serious around this time. On these spring nights you see him demand intense dedication from his players: a mania to win. Under this psychological pressure his teams form an indivisible fighting force and take one hell of a lot of shifting.

Lees Summit West are Brown Division Champions, Kickapoo Shootout

Kickapoo Chiefs – 3 (1st OT)
Oak Park – 2
The Chiefs got the game-winner from senior Marin Gelsheimer tonight. Early in the first overtime period, Marin went down hard after a tackle that earned a yellow card ejection, a fall that included a face plant that brought tears to the captains eyes. She dragged herself up and got into position for the ensuing free kick and the video below tells the story – a game winning goal via header, not backing down from the challenge and sending her teammates home on a high note. Pretty dramatic 60 seconds of soccer for me as I arrived just in time following Catholic’s game.

The Chief’s took an early lead against Oak Park as Megan Manes & Gelsheimer scored in the first half, only to see Oak Park tie the game in the second.
