Lebanon Yellowjackets – 2
Rolla Bulldog – 3
The Bulldogs opened the scoring this evening on Taylor Banholzer’s goal but the Yellowjackets fought back, getting goals from Abby Zimmerman and Tori Wood to take the lead into halftime. It was Rolla who came out hard to start the 2nd half, in face of approaching weather, getting a pair of opportunistic goals to take the lead into the lightning delays that began with 14 min remaining. Taylor Banholzer, playing up top rather than her traditional defensive position, slipped a ball just beyond the keepers reach as a cross from the left side was knocked down by a Lebanon defender into Banholzer’s path. Ellen Spooner got the potential game-winner when she slipped in-between a pair of defenders as they waited for the other to play the ball.

14 min remain, lightning delay at 8:08 pm, finally called. JV result = Lebanon 1, Rolla 2

Hillcrest Hornets host Glendale Falcons – rescheduled to May 2nd

West Plains Zizzers - 0
Kickapoo Chiefs – 1
Senior Katie Lynn buried a 17th minute PK for the game winner. Zizzer keeper Sammi Phegley set the Zizzer’s career save record during the match.

Camdenton Lakers – 3
Parkview Vikings – 2
The Laker’s took an early lead on Ashleigh Paschel’s 3rd minute goal, a blast that went through the keepers hands. Freshman Emma Chilton tied the game for Parkview when she dribbled around the keeper after picking up a loose ball, scoring from inside the box. After halftime, Whitney Snow buried her 50th minute shot and Meagan D’Arcy scored in the 60th from Pachel’s corner kick. Holly Messick scored on a breakaway but the Vikings were unable to muster a tying goal.

U17 MNT Face Mexico

US Soccer logoCHICAGO (April 21, 2011) – The U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team are in Queretaro, Mexico, from April 22-May 2 for an international training camp that will include two friendlies against the Mexican U-17 Men’s National Team on April 27 and May 1. U.S. head coach Wilmer Cabrera leads a 24-player roster to Queretaro, one of seven venues for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

There are 17 players who were part of the U.S. team that won the CONCACAF U-17 Championship in February, including Alejandro Guido, Mario Rodriguez and Marc Pelosi, who each scored in the all-important quarterfinal victory against El Salvador that sealed the American’s place in the upcoming World Cup. Kellyn Acosta, who was also part of that championship run, is the lone player on the roster born in 1995, as a group of players born in 1995 is currently in Montaigu, France. Forward Jack McBean, a Home Grown player signee for the Los Angeles Galaxy, is the lone professional player on the roster and assisted on all three U.S. goals in the championship game against Canada.

This will be one of the final international trips for the young U.S. team before the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is set for June 18-July 10 in Mexico. The Americans will learn their World Cup schedule and opponents at the Official Draw, which is slated for Tuesday, May 17, in Mexico City.

Barcelona Signs First American – 10 y.o. Academy Player

Ben Lederman, FC Barcelona Penya Los Angeles

Ben Lederman, FC Barcelona Penya Los Angeles (by Paul Walker)

OK Mom and Dad, two questions for you – would you quit your jobs and move to Barcelona for an opportunity like this? and more importantly, what was it that made Ben stand out?

Is your Club preparing your child for a future in soccer or are they focused on winning now? What measurement are YOU using to track progress?

From the Barcaloco.com website

On Friday April 14 history was made when one of our own, Ben Lederman, was offered a contract with FC Barcelona’s Academy to join their Alevin C team. Ben becomes the first ever American player to be signed by the clubs legendary academy.

Ben was part of our FC Barcelona Penya Los Angeles club that traveled to Barcelona last spring. The trip was covered by Barcaloco as the team of 10 year olds played against FC Barcelona’s Academy and defeated them in impressive fashion with Ben leading the charge and sparking the interest of the Barcelona Academy coaches.

Sporting KC Fall To New England

The New England Revolution avenged a recent rough patch against Sporting KC with a 3-2 win Saturday night. Despite Saturday’s loss in Foxborough, KC has still won five times in its last eight tries against the Revs.

The Revs needed two goals in the final 20 minutes to rally for the win, as KC couldn’t survive a costly red card.
New England struck first when Marko Perovic scored in the 12th minute. Sporting KC came right back, as Kei Kamara netted the equalizer two minutes later.

The teams went into halftime tied at one. In the second, KC grabbed the lead when Kamara put a penalty kick in the back of the net for his second goal.
New England pulled even with a goal in the 72nd minute and took advantage of a Aurélien Collin red card to go on top for good on a goal by Rajko Lekic in the 83rd.

With the win, New England improves to 2-2, while Sporting KC drops to 1-3.
