Republic Tigers, 2011 Varsity Starters, 1st Home Game

If the Republic Lady Tigers show the same verve and fearlessness I saw tonight in the programs first ever home match, their fans have a lot to look forward to.

Republic Tigers - 1
Waynesville Tigers – 2

Coach Mike Hines, in his pre-game speech about lessons learned in Tuesday’s season opening loss at Rolla, got one response from his squad – step it up. Waynesville, a young but improving program, was not prepared.

The Tiger’s first ever goal was scored in the 11th minute as freshman forward Sarah Marcotte calmly slotted a penalty kick just inside the right upright. It was a lead the Tiger’s held until late in the 1st half as junior GK … took control of her box, roaming far and wide to deny Waynesville, including saving a PK in the 22nd min.

Waynesville, led by sophomore Captain Lori Ann Clark, finally broke through when sophomore .. Pryor joined her in the midfield. The key to Pryor’s play was the patience she showed on the ball and the confidence she showed in Clark. By focusing on simple, short passes, Waynesville finally moved the ball to their expectations. A short pass, followed by a diagonal ball by Clark to the left, sent Dowling in for the tying goal in the 29th. Dowling got the game-winner later when she converted a PK.

The game remained close however and the win was not certain until the final whistle. Waynesville had the better opportunities but were unable to extend their lead.

Pictures and proper names will follow Friday when I have rosters.
