The Pirates got back in the win column tonight with a hard fought 3-2 COC (8-4 2-1 COC) victory over Neosho.

Nothing came easy but the team stayed focused coming back from an early deficit to score two goals in the first half. The first goal was by Anthony Schreffler on a cross from Fernando Cedeno that Schreffler (3) slotted past the diving keeper. The second goal went to Nathaniel Davison (1) as he put a back heal to the far post on another Cedeno cross. Neosho got two goals from #19 as he pushed hard and tested the defense repeatedly. The final tally came from Cedeno (11) who took a ball in the middle of the field and found the back of the net. The goal gave Cedeno the single season scoring record for Branson and extended his career total to 21.

Drury Panthers – 1
Missouri S&T Miners – 0
A penalty kick, in the 77th min, was all that separated these two teams today. Kara Steiner drew the call and Hillary Cockrell converted the kick.

The Panthers moved to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in GLVC play with the victory, while S & T fell to 3-3 and 3-3.

It was Cockrell’s first goal of the season and sixth of her career, in addition to being her fifth game-winner at DU in her three seasons with the Panthers. Senior keeper Jessie Sanderson posted her third shutout of the season and school-record 33rd of her career, picking up four saves along the way for the Panthers, who outshot the Lady Miners 10-8.

The Lady Miners dominated the opening period as they outshot the Panthers 8-3 in the frame and put four of those shots on goal. Unfortunately S&T was unable to put one in the net. The second half was all Drury as it dominated the stat sheet getting off seven shots, three on goal and had three corner kicks. Hillary Cockrell scored the game winner.

Drury hits the GLVC road next weekend for matches at Southern Indiana on Friday and Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.

With junior Nicole Williams leading the way, Drury scored three goals in a 13-minute span late in the first half to break it open for a 5-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Maryville Friday afternoon at Harrison Stadium. The Panthers (4-4 overall, 2-3 in the GLVC) went on top just two minutes into the match on Williams’ goal off a Katie Pritchard assist for the 1-0 advantage.

The Missouri S&T Lady Miners gave up two goals in the first four minutes of the game and were never able to recover dropping a 3-0 contest to Quincy on Sunday, September 19th in Rolla. The loss snapped S&T’s three match winning streak. The Panther’s lost to Quincy 0-1 at Quincy the previous week. The Lady Miners are now 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the GLVC.

Regional players include Melissa Young, a junior midfielder from Jefferson City Helias who has started all five games and has a pair of assists. Freshman Jaclyn Standfast (Rolla/Metro Strikers) has played in all five games and has one goal, a game winner scored against Illinois-Springfield. Drury Panthers – 0
Missouri S&T Miners – 1
A set piece, sent into the box from 30 yards out by Caleb Collier (Kickapoo/Springfield SC), slipped through the hands of Panthers GK Stephen Conner for the decisive goal. It came midway thru the first half and the Miners held on for the Conference win.

Missouri S&T’s men’s soccer managed only one shot on goal Sunday – but made that opportunity count as Springfield native Caleb Collier put it into the net to give the Miners a 1-0 victory over No. 20-ranked Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Collier, who played his prep soccer at Kickapoo High School in Springfield, notched the goal at the 29:47 mark when he put a shot from just off the right side of the goal past goalkeeper Stephen Conner. From that point, the Miner defense and goalkeeper Pat McNamee made that goal stand up. Drury ended the contest with a 12-2 advantage in shots overall, but only two of the 12 Panther shots made it to McNamee and he turned both of them away to record his 14th career shutout – one away from the S&T career record held by his older brother Mike.

Before an enthusiastic and overflow crowd at the Woodruff PE Center, the Emory Athletics Department unveiled the highly anticipated Clyde “Doc” Partin, Sr., Athletic Historical Timeline and also announced the all-time teams for the university’s intercollegiate teams.

The Timeline was conceived by former Emory athletic director and long-time athletic and physical education department employee, the late Clyde “Doc” Partin. The 14-panel exhibit chronicles the evolution and growth of Emory Athletics from its beginnings from nearly 175 years ago to the present. The majority of the information presented in the Timeline came from Partin’s book, “Athletics For All.”

Another highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Emory All-Time Teams. The all-time teams were announced in acknowledgement of the 25th anniversary of the University Athletic Association and will kick off a year-long recognition for those honorees. In addition, a Legends category was developed to account for former athletic standouts who competed prior to Emory joining the UAA. The All-Time Teams were chosen by a selection committee comprised by the Emory Sports Hall of Fame Board, current and past Emory coaches and administrators.
