ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the third consecutive season, the Missouri State women’s soccer team (4-3-1) and the Saint Louis Billikens (1-4-3) played to a double overtime scoreless draw on Friday night. It was the second consecutive time the two squads played a 0-0 tie at Morrison Stadium in St. Louis.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan saved all six shots she faced. Her best save of the night came in the 108th minute after a brief scramble in the box following a Billikens’ corner kick. The shutout was Teahan’s second of the season and the team’s fourth shutout of 2010.
Missouri State was able to hold SLU scoreless despite being outshot 17 to three in the match. Tiffany Laughlin had two shots for the Bears while Michelle Sommer added the other shot.
The Bears’ scoring drought continued against Saint Louis. Missouri State has not scored against the Billikens defense since 2005, marking five straight shutouts by SLU in the series.
“Jessica (Teahan) made a lot of good plays outside the box to disrupt chances by SLU,” said head coach Rob Brewer. “I am happy we got the shutout, but we would have liked to get the win as well.”
Missouri State will continue its four-game road trip with a stop at Lawrence, Kan., on Sunday, September 19, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against the Jayhawks. The Bears will return home on Friday, October 1, at 7:00 p.m. against Indiana State.
