FC Springfield and SpringHigh Select Merge With KC Legends

KC Legends Soccer Clubs LogoFC Springfield-SpringHigh Select, is pleased to announce a merger with the Kansas City based Legends Soccer Program. The union will continue the southwest Missouri club’s tradition of player-focused club soccer through a strengthened curriculum and opportunities for players beyond the Springfield market. The club will play under the name of “FC Springfield Legends”.

“We are very pleased to be associated with a nationally respected, player-focused program that has helped produce both great players and individuals by doing what is right for kids.” said FC Springfield Youth Development Director, Clint Nurnberg. “Legends have laid a path similar to the one we have been cutting here in Springfield. This merger will solidify
our program and provide many benefits to our players and families”, Nurnberg added.

According to FCS Club Director Cliff Nurnberg, there are no concerns regarding the new association with a “big market” club. “The relationship will be reciprocal. We both gain from the union.” said Nurnberg. He explained “Kansas City respects what we have established here, and they know we could do just fine as FC Springfield alone. We will maintain complete control of our direction and budgets in Springfield, and it is clear that the merger’s pros outweigh the cons for our players and their futures”.

“FC Springfield, Cliff and Clint Nurnberg, and every other contact we’ve had with the club has been quite impressive. We’re anxious to bring our positive developmental curriculum to the kids of southwest Missouri and unite with the first class group of coaches at FC Springfield” said Andrew Clifton, Legends Soccer Clubs Director and Drury Alumnus

FC Springfield was established in 2008 to provide a lower cost club soccer option and a “player first” program for the Springfield, Missouri area. The program has grown from 2 teams to 11 teams in two and a half years. FC Springfield also merged with SpringHigh Select in 2008 providing playing opportunities for players in the U5 through U19 age ranges.

Kansas City Legends started in 1988 and runs eleven teams from U8 to U18 in range from its Lenexa, Kansas headquarters. The club has expanded its presence in other markets near and in the Midwest.

FC Springfield Legends will hold tryouts on Monday, June 21st and Tuesday, June 22nd from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Lake Country on Field 8.

Caroline Jensen, Greenwood (2010) scores via header

#2 Greenwood Blue Jays – 5
#3 Laquey Hornets – 1
The Jay’s wasted no time getting on the board this evening when Maddie Esther’s run to the endline led to a square ball to M Kirkman on the edge of the box. She found Sara Cook near the penalty spot and one touch later it’s in the back of the net.

It seemed Greenwood might run away with the game when in the 12th Caroline Jansen headed in a corner kick. Until, that is, the Hornet’s woke up.

Following a series of runs into the offensive end, Greenwood was called for a foul outside the box. Sr Emily Murray stepped up and buried the direct kick and shortly after Coach Shull pulled Esther back to provide defensive cover.

Greenwood found their mojo again later in the half, after Esther made a 50 yard run thru the defense before hammering her shot off the upright. The next time down, a simple pass back to the top of the box and Vook redirected the ball to the far post for a 3-1 halftime lead,

Cook got her hattrick in the 52nd after the Jays got their possession game on track and she was the final beneficiary following a series of quick passes. Jensen completed the scoring with about 10 min remaining.

Benjamin Wade Hired at Lassen Community College

Ben Wade

It looks like in addition to his budding film career (180 the Movie, being filmed locally) Benjamin Wade is returning to college soccer coaching, in this case for the Lassen Community College. His contract was approved by the Board last week according to this story in the Lassen County Times

May 18, 2010 — There were mixed feelings throughout the room when Lassen Community College’s Board of Trustees approved Benjamin Wade’s contract as the new head coach of the men’s soccer team during its meeting on Tuesday, May 11. Players whom Wade had coached were in attendance in addition to several members of the Susanville Symphony and both sides presented a different interpretation of the man to the board.

Wade was the head coach for the women’s soccer team during 2001-2005 seasons. He left to take a coaching position at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri.

Former players took the microphone first during public comments, reading personal letters or letters from players who were not able to attend. The letters were presented to the board as well as several copies of e-mails from Wade during his recruitment time of the former players.

The letters were repeated with the same theme, describing Wade as “manipulative, conniving, dishonest, disrespectful, pompous, arrogant, unethical, immoral and having a questionable moral fortitude.” The claims came from their experience of having Wade as their coach and his alleged questionable recruitment methods that the players said they experienced first hand.

It looks like it might be a new Men’s team since all I can find is the Lassen CC Lady Cougar’s.
