Columbia Rock Bridge Bruins – 1 (1st OT)
Nixa Eagles – 0
The Eagle’s late season run was ended today on a goal scored by senior Kelsey Whittet, 8 minutes into the first overtime period. UPDATED based on KY3 sports report – Whittet ran onto a cross and redirected it just under the diving goalkeeper at the far post, where she was waiting for a pin point cross served by fellow senior Morgan Pitchford who served it from the left corner after receiving the ball from a throw-in. The win was well deserved as the Bruins dominated in the primary statistical categories including shots on goal (10-1) and corner kicks (3-1). The Eagle’s did not go easily however, and in the words of TJ Brice of the News-Leader, lost to the first team capable of working harder than the Eagles.
It was a quality game, played on a hot, fast surface at Slaughter Field in Waynesville between a pair of teams who have peaked at the right time. The Bruin’s (13-11-2) advance to the Final 4 next Friday evening where they will play the winner of Pattonville vs Francis Howell who play this evening at the AB Center. The Eagle’s (18-6) finish after having earned their first District win ever as well as Sectionals. They return 8 starters from today’s game including leading scorer Lauren Moats and goalkeeper Kristen Miller who was at the top of her game in today’s action.
I’ll return with more on the Eagles this weekend. I saw Nixa play 8 times this season, exceeded only by the 9 times I saw Kickapoo play so I’m interested in going a bit more in-depth on the team and District 11. Let’s see what I come up with.
