Bolivar Liberators – 4
Willard Tigers – 1
With the Tiger’s playing in their 3rd game of the day, the Liberator’s used that knowledge to try and put some early pressure on them. The Tiger’s handled it well until the 18th minute when Jonna Welch, battling for a ball centered by Sammy Jacobson, broke into the box with a defender on her back. Somehow she got a foot on the ball and it slipped just inside the upright to the right of the charging goalkeeper. The second goal came late in the first half when Julie Magana was sent in alone via a nice pass by Abby Martin. You can see the goal below. The Tiger’s had two good opportunities in the final minutes of the first half but were unable to finish.
The game finished with Jonna Welch getting two more goals for a hat-trick and the Tiger’s scoring one in the second half.[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pStCd4kfppE]
Bolivar Liverators – 3
Willard Tigers – 1
The Liberators opened the morning with the win against the hosts
Marshfield Blue Jays – 4
Central Bulldogs – 1
After their opening game loss to Bolivar on Friday afternoon, the Jay’s score four goals for the second straight game.
Willard Tigers – 1 (PKs)
Marshfield Blue Jays – 0
With both teams playing their second game of the day, the defenses held the advantage as this game finished in a scoreless tie after regulation. The Tigers advanced in PK’s with a 2-1 advantage. Ashley Honeycutt scored for the Jays while the Tiger scorers included Lindsay Owens and ?
The Jay’s defense includes Allison Martin (21), Kayla Esquivel (27), Morgan Blackstock (1) and Shelbie Porter (7). The four ladies were able to nullify the Tiger’s attack with their hard work and Porter and Blackstock were also making runs forward to support their midfield leader Ashley Honeycutt througout the game. It was an impressive effort and with a bit more luck, Honeycutt or Kylea Ryser up top might have provided the upset against the larger school who are also positioned for the top seed in Class 3 District 12 later this month.
For the Tiger’s, senior D Rexroat (16) and sophomore Torri Thomas combined with goalkeeper Brittany Dunn to keep the clean sheet. With a lively crew of underclassmen playing off of senior Rebekah Mann (17) in the middle, the Tiger’s counter-attacked regularly but lacked a reliable finisher as injuries have limited the teams options.
More photos later, off to an evening game now.
