The Kickapoo Chiefs have offered a second coach to the regional ranks with long-time assistant Mike Hines hiring as the Head Coach for the Republic Tigers. Hines will move from the Brown and Gold to the Orange and Black at Republic High School. The Ozark Tigers were the most recent beneficiaries of Kickapoo’s largess when Head Coach Tom Davidson moved to Ozark in 2007.

I had a chance to chat with Coach Hines following the Chief’s win over Davidson and the Tigers on Thursday evening about his career change – from Missouri State University employee to Student Teacher/Teacher/Head Coach.

Congratulations Coach Hines. The Tigers will compete in Class 2 District 5 which includes Bolivar, Marshfield, West Plains and Carl Junction locally. The photo is from Thursday’s game against Kickapoo. Coach Hodge is reacting to a call by one of the referees, not to Hine’s move to Republic :)

  1. Congratulations, Michael! I am very happy for the young man from Neosho I met when he came to Kickapoo in 1991. You have come a long way and you richly deserve this opportunity. You will do well my good friend!

  2. Congratulations Mike, it doesn't seem like that long ago we were living on Prince Lane and helping rookie Head Coach Davidson at Kickapoo. Good luck with the new program.

  3. You've worked long and hard to get here, Mike…and your wonderful wife Mary has been by your side thru it all. Kudos to you both!! We wish you tremendous success as you flip the page and begin this new chapter.
