If you didn’t catch the game on Fox Soccer Channel last night, I’d recommend looking for a replay this coming week. With the High School girls season starting, it was a good game featuring a hard working, skillful set of players that haven’t reached their full potential yet but gave their all. Kaysie Clark (pictured as a U15) wears #8 and plays as an attacking midfielder on the team and was a joy to watch. I now want to see her playing for the Liberty Jay’s this season, maybe that Brine tournament…

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica (March 18, 2010) – A nightmare scenario evolved and came to fruition for the U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team as it could not find a way to score on Canada during regulation and overtime, eventually succumbing in a penalty kick shootout during the semifinal match of the CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship. The loss eliminated the USA from participating in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

As CONCACAF member Trinidad & Tobago will host the next U-17 Women’s World Cup in September, just two World Cup berths instead of the usual three were available at this tournament, both going to the winners of the semifinals.

It seems that this team loves its pranks. I would say that on the prank scale, I’m just the one who sits and laughs at everyone else. I don’t really plan the pranks and I don’t get pranked, I just really enjoy when my teammates get it.

The best one so far was probably when Olivia Brannon and Havana Solaun caught a small lizard in their room and put it into Morgan Brian’s retainer case. Luckily for all of us, it escaped from the case before Miss Morgan (our nickname for her) opened it because we all would have been in BIG trouble had that prank worked to perfection. We found out after that Morgan is REALLY afraid of lizards. Whoops!

Carthage Tigers Will Build On Inaugural Success

The Lady Tigers, who ended their inaugural season with a 5-14 record, finished the season playing .500 soccer, going 4-4 in their final eight games.

“It shows how much improvement we made from the first game,” said Rogers, after last season. “When you look at our group of girls, we’re a very young team that laid a great foundation for the future.”

Although the season ended with a quick exit in district playoffs, the Lady Tigers had two players — Allison Bennett and Jessica Diaz — selected to the All-COC Large Division team. Bennett, now a junior, was a second-team defender selection. Diaz, a sophomore, was picked as a second-team forward selection.

The Lady Tigers, who open the regular season Monday, March 22, at Logan-Rogersville, also return Sarah Anderson, the team’s Defensive Player of the Year, and senior midfielder Ashley Shannon, who recently signed with Pratt (Kan.) Community College to continue her academic and athletic career. Jamileth Henriquez, who finished second in scoring last season and led the Lady Tigers in assists, also returns.

Newcomers this season include junior midfielder Tristen Bass, junior defender Andrea Westhoff, and senior midfielder Deandra Sexton and senior defender Ashley Heidlage.

“We should be able to compete with most of the teams we play,” noted Rogers. “I am hoping the girls can double the number of wins from last season.”

After finishing tied for 3rd in the Ozark Conference, with Northern neighbor Camdenton, the Bulldogs lost 1-0 in the District Final’s last year to Jeff City, on a goal scored in the final 3 minutes of the game. Combined with an OT loss to Glendale and a 2-3 loss to Kickapoo during Ozark Conference play, the Bulldogs know what they need to do to get back to their winning ways in post-season. Daily News Sports Editor Dave Roberts diggs into the details with RHS girls’ soccer looking for more offense in 2010

Rolla, Mo. —
The Rolla High School girls’ soccer team will be looking for more offense this spring. The Lady Bulldogs had a strong defensive effort throughout 2009, allowing just 17 goals all season long.

However, RHS simply couldn’t find the back of the net enough on the other end of the field. Rolla finished with a 16-7-3 record last year, reaching the district tournament championship game.

From that squad seven starters and 10 varsity lettermen return. Leading the charge for RHS is senior goal-keeper Adrian Pogue, an all-state selection last season. Pogue recorded 14 shutouts last season and is the Lady Bulldog career shutout leader with 34.

RHS will start three defenders – senior Katherine McCaulla, sophomore Kendra Wood and junior Ashlee Rightnowar.

Starting outside midfielders are senior Katelyn Maddy and sophomore Taylor Tronstad while the center midfielders are sophomore Taylor Banholzer and senior Jaclyn Standfast.

The three forwards are seniors Olivia Cox and Kaylyn Stoll and junior Ellen Spooner.

Rolla is scheduled to begin the season on Friday, March 26, opening the Central Federal/RHS Girls’ Soccer Classic against Washington at 5 p.m. on Kiwanis Field. RHS is also scheduled to play Springfield Catholic at 9 a.m. and Columbia Hickman at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 in the event.

The Lake Sun-Leader took a look at the Lady Lakers with Season preview: Soccer Lakers bring back deep, talented roster

Camdenton, Mo. —
The Lady Lakers have a wealth of experience and depth on their side this season. Camdenton has five seniors and a junior class that saw heavy game time last season.

All together, Camdenton returns 10 full-time starters and two other varsity players that started matches.

Among several of the key players back are: speedy defender Kali Kuse, junior foward Haley Baker (7 goals, 11 assists), junior goalie Sandra Shore (18 goals allowed) and forwards Cassie Hale (7 goals, 4 assists) and Ashleigh Paschel (14 goals, 9 assists).

The Lady Lakers do have one rather large obstacle to overcome: leading scorer and senior Latea LaRue will miss the season after injuring her knee in the second-to-last game of the basketball season.

The Lady Lakers will try to improve on their 18-win season from a year ago.

Missouri 1993 Girls ODP at Nationals

Congratulations to the Missouri Girls who defeated Pennsylvania 1-0 on a goal by Shea Grooms to reach the Final’s at the ODP National Tournament last weekend. Game stories below from the USYSA website:

1993 Girls Final
Colorado’s offense once again overwhelmed their opponent as they claimed the 1993 Girls championship 5-1 against Missouri, matching the five goals they scored in the semifinal. Francesca Garzelloni got things started with goals in the 15th and 32nd minutes to give Colorado a two goal lead at halftime. Missouri pulled themselves back in the game after the break with a goal from Shea Groom in the 53rd, but Colorado sealed the game with goals from Darcy Jerman, Sarah Schweiss and Catherine Parchinski in the final 20 minutes. 1993 Girls Semifinals
Missouri came out strong in their semifinal game with Eastern Pennsylvania but needed an excellent save from goalkeeper Nina Tzianos late in the first half to keep the score at 0-0 entering halftime. Eastern Pennsylvania goalie Emily Armstrong was also up to the task, keeping Missouri off the board despite numerous quality chances. Missouri midfielder Allie Stephenson was a constant threat throughout the game and in the 80th minute her penetrating run set up the game winner as Armstrong couldn’t contain Stephenson’s shot and Missouri forward Shea Groom ran in to finish for a 1-0 victory.

From the Marshfield Mail comes a season preview of the Lady Jays: Lady Jays ready for a new experience Beating Bolivar, Catholic on list of goals for upcoming season

Coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history, the Marshfield High School Lady Jays soccer team is poised for another historic run. With no seniors on last year’s team, the Lady Jays may be the most experienced team in the conference, returning 10 of 11 starters.

“We’d love to be better than we were last year,” MHS head coach Paul Lewis said. “But our main goal is to be better from game one to game 22 or 23. If we can do that, it’ll say a lot about the hard work that these girls put in. We also expect to do better in the district tournament. Not only do we want to win the first game, but we want to play in the district final.”

But matching last year’s record might be a little difficult for the Lady Jays. Alex Cantrell, the one starter who is missing, was instrumental in both the offense and defensive ends of the field. Cantrell scored 19 goals and had numerous assists for the Lady Jays while garnishing first-team all-Central Ozark Conference honors. This year, Cantrell will be standing on the sidelines with a torn ACL.
