Cal Roselieb Commits To Missouri State Bears
Missouri State will be getting the services of Downers Grove South’s Cal Roselieb, and they’ll be getting those services earlier than they might have anticipated. “I’m graduating early and I’ll be enrolling in time for spring practice,” Roselieb said.
The Mustangs’ senior is a defender by trade, spending his junior year for coach Jon Stapleton as a central defender. Roselieb was needed in the attack this season, and proceeded to lead the team in scoring with 10 goals and 2 assists.
Roselieb earned Conference honors as his Downers Grove South squad fell in the Regionals to Fenwick this season. He also has experience with the Chicago Fire Juniors Red and the 1992 Boys Illinois ODP State Team.
Welcome Cal from a former Lincoln Square resident. Chicago in the house!

US MNT Friendly Against El Salvador Feb 24th
The United States will face El Salvador on Feb. 24 in Tampa, Fla., in their second-to-last match before naming the roster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Kickoff at Raymond James Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN Classic and TeleFutura. Fans can also follow the match live online via ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker or twitter.com/ussoccer.
“El Salvador proved to be a strong team in the final round of qualifying, and will pose a good test for this group,” said U.S. head coach Bob Bradley. “This game will be an important part of our preparations, providing us with one of the last opportunities to evaluate the players being considered for the World Cup roster. We are excited about the chance to return to Tampa, a community which has a long tradition of supporting soccer.”
The United States is 14-1-5 all-time versus El Salvador, with 45 goals scored and 13 surrendered. The only loss came Feb. 19, 1992, in a friendly in San Salvador. The teams last met during the final round of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying, with Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore scoring to earn a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on Sept. 5, 2009, in Sandy, Utah. El Salvador was one of the surprise teams in the CONCACAF region during 2010 qualifying, making it to the final round for the first time in 12 years and beating both Mexico and Costa Rica in San Salvador in 2009.
Tampa, one of 18 cities that will be included in the USA’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022, will be hosting the U.S. team for the fifth time. In the last visit, Landon Donovan recorded the second hat trick of his career in front of a record-setting crowd for a friendly in the state of Florida as the U.S. cruised to a 3-1 victory on March 25, 2007, against Ecuador at Raymond James Stadium. The U.S. has a 2-1-1 record in Tampa, with the other win coming in 1990 against Finland.
Following the match against El Salvador, the U.S. will travel to face the third-ranked Netherlands on March 3 in Amsterdam. Kickoff at the Amsterdam ArenA is set for 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET), and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and TeleFutura. The match falls on the only international fixture date before the start of the tournament in South Africa, and will be the USA’s final game before naming the World Cup roster in early May.

Missouri 1993 ODP Boys Team Competes Against Springfield SC
Working with Springfield SC, there were two games played today. The first game featured players who have registered to be part of the ODP program but had not yet been evaluated. Their game was played against the U17 Boys team from Springfield SC. The second game featured boys who have been part of the ODP program in the past and they played against a team of U18 and older boys from SSC. These are the boys featured in the photo and include three regional players – Luke Strauss (Catholic/Springfield SC), Jackson Patillo (Willard/Springfield SC) and Taylor Arens (Catholic/Springfield SC).
Following the games, I asked Coach Rosslein to give me some feedback on the Olympic Development Program (ODP) in Missouri. Summarizing his comments in the video below, the ODP program offers boys from Missouri an alternative to the time and expense of the USSF Academy Program, which is also limited to Kansas City and St Louis, while exposing them to additional competitive opportunities and college programs. Today’s event was scouted by both Michael Seabolt from Missouri State and Ryan Swan from Drury University and Coach Rosselein emphasized his efforts to partner with the Club coaches he draws his team from AND the college coaches in the region that have an interest in players capable of playing at this level. A final note – the Pool is approximately 50 players who are invited to participate based upon availability and interest, while the final roster of 18 with 6 alternates is chosen in June following State Cup. These players advance to represent the state in the Region II ODP tournament and potentially represent the region. An example of that are when Austin Hart (Glendale/Springfield SC) and Reid Harbach (Catholic/Springfield SC) played for Region II at the Super Regionals in December.
