Total Demize Soccer Club High School Boys Tryouts

Total Demize SCThe Total Demize Soccer Club has announced the dates for their upcoming tryouts at the TDSC High School Boys level. There will be three teams that TDSC will be placing high school club players on. Two college showcase competitive teams will highlight the HS Boys program, the U18 TDSC Scorpions, 2009 Missouri President’s Cup Champions and Midwest Region II runner-up AND the U16/17 TDSC Showcase team. There will also be a new U16-17 Competitive team that will compete locally in the High School Boys League team.

In 2008-2009 the Scorpions had great success, winning the John Talley Classic, LCS Dr Pepper Coca Cola Cup and were runners up at the President’s Cup Midwest Regional Tournament. Both the Scorpions and the U19 College Showcase teams won League Titles in their age group at the Heartland Division in Kansas City. The Scorpions are comprised of the top High School players from around the area, with large contingents from Bolivar, Kickapoo, Nixa, Ozark, and Parkview High Schools.

Bradley Stillwagon leads the way for the Bolivar players, as the captain was selected to represent the Springfield Demize in their first Premier Arena Soccer League season. Also featuring for the Bulldogs are Matt Magana, Mitchell Waters, and Kyle “Toad” Slagle. Kickapoo is represented by Jesse Speer who was selected as the captain for the Springfield Demize Premier Developement League Reserves team, and Ricki Wallenberg.

Kaleb Romero spearheads the Nixa HS boys, representing both the PDL and PASL first team for the Springfield Demize. Romero had a record breaking season on all fronts, breaking the most assists in a season, most assists in a career, most goals in a career, most assists in a game, and number one highest scorer in Nixa’s history, ending his career with the most points in Nixa’s history. Romero is joined by Nathan Massey and Charlie Fenwick from Nixa. Ozark’s representatives are Andrew Presnell, Zach Moore, and Skyler Foster. Parkview’s representatives include Jon Malter and Tanner Bennett, both of whom have Springfield Demize Reserve experience at the PDL and PASL levels.

The U16/17 TDSC Showcase team looks to follow in the footsteps of success the Scorpions and the U19 TDSC Showcase teams that have sent numerous athletes on to play at the next level, in College and the PDL. Adam Legg and Quincy Conduff, with PDL and PASL first team experience, now represent Hendrix University in Arkansas following graduation from Kickapoo. Jason Taylor and Robert Curtis, former Ozark Tigers, joined Rockford and Lincoln Memorial University, respectively. Marcus Fernandes, a former Nixa Eagle, guards the nets at Neosho CC, joining Willis Zirsky and Alex Dodrill, who were Marshfield Blue Jays. NE Oklahoma A&M have a large contingent of TDSC boys with brothers Erik and Lane Chapman, both with PDL experience and joined by TDSC teammates Matt Eubanks, Josh Maloney, and Nick Robinson.

Come have your chance to be a part of one of Southwest Missouri’s elite club programs, with the opportunity to garner attention from the Springfield Demize’s PDL and PASL programs. Costa Rica Faces Elimination Wednesday

2010 WC LogoUruguay have taken a big step towards qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™ finals after beating ten-man Costa Rica 1-0 away from home in the first leg of their qualifying play-off.

A first-half goal from Diego Lugano gave Oscar Tabarez’s side strong hopes of playing in South Africa next year, following their failure to qualify for the 2006 finals in Germany.

The first half was often scrappy, but Uruguay showed more purpose going forward. Early on, Alvaro Pereira fired a warning shot towards goal, but Costa Rica goalkeeper made the save at his near post.

The Ticos could not make their home advantage pay, failing to get into the Uruguay box or test Fernando Muslera. Costa Rica suffered a further blow in the 20th minute when defender Gilberto Martinez was forced off with an injury after colliding with Alvaro Fernandez.

While he was off receiving treatment, Uruguay profited. Lugano headed goalwards from a corner, and although his first effort was blocked, the ball came back to him and he beat Navas from an awkward position.

Costa Rica did have a chance to equalise just before half-time, but Bryan Ruiz’s header went over the crossbar from Randall Azofeifa’s cross. Things got even worse for Rene Simoes’ side seven minutes into the second half as Azofeifa brought down Fernandez and earned a second yellow card and an early shower.

However, where they had punished Costa Rica’s momentary short-handedness in the first half, Uruguay showed little ability to take advantage a second time. They squandered possession too often and failed to create chances.

Costa Rica were showing more purpose, but their shots, coming from Alvaro Saborio and Walter Centeno, were too weak to properly test Muslera. Fernandez could have doubled Uruguay’s lead with three minutes to go, but saw his header blocked by Junior Diaz.

That means Uruguay take a slim but significant advantage into the rematch at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo on Wednesday night.

Despite an RPI of #37, compared to the SLU Billiken’s #58 , the Missouri State Bear’s (12-4-2) will travel up I-44 for a rematch with the St Louis University Billikens in a first round NCAA game on Thursday evening. The teams faced each other on August 22nd this year, in a late exhibition match at Hermann Stadium in St Louis, where the Billiken’s won 2-0. The Billiken’s are 14-6 this season, coming off their first ever Atlantic 10 Conference title which offered the automatic bid.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State earned its first outright regular season conference title this year on a 7-1-1 record in the MVC. The Bears finished the season with a 12-4-2 record, falling in overtime to Evansville in the MVC Tournament semifinals. The Bears played an exhibition match at Saint Louis on August 22 with the Billikens prevailing, 2-0. SLU holds an 8-0-3 all-time record against the Bears.

Missouri State was led by MVC Defensive Player of the Year Alex Riggs, who recorded eight of the Bears’ nine shutouts. His goals against average of 0.76 is the third-lowest season average in school history.

On the offensive side of the ball, Johannes Demarzi recorded 10 assists to lead the MVC. His assist total and assists per game rank him in the top-10 nationally. Heath Melugin and Paul Paradise each tallied five goals to lead the Bears.

The Bears have made two previous NCAA Tournament appearances in 1997 and 1999. Missouri State dropped a 2-1 decision at No. 16 UAB in 1999 and lost 2-0 at No. 14 Saint Louis in 1997.

UPDATE: The Drake Bulldogs, MVC Tournament champions and automatic NCAA qualifiers, are the only other MVC team to participate in the tournament. The Bulldogs will host Western Illinois at 7:00 pm on Thursday in Des Moines.

NCAA 2nd Round: Drury Panthers Upset By Lewis Flyers

Drury Panthers, Blake Wilson (2011)

Drury Panthers, Blake Wilson (2011)

As November wrapped Springfield in a cold, wet blanket, the Panther’s run ended in the Sweet 16 at home today.

Lewis junior Mardoche Beya blasted home a perfectly-placed shot from 30 yards out just off the fingertips of Drury keeper Stephen Conner early in the second half as the third-seeded Flyers knocked off top seed Drury 1-0 in the NCAA-II Super Region IV finals in the rain Sunday at Harrison Stadium.

As a result, the Panthers’ first-ever NCAA-II Tournament run ended in the Sweet 16, as Drury finished with a 21-2-0 record, easily the best in the program’s history. Lewis (15-3-2) moves on to the Elite Eight next weekend after avenging a 3-0 loss to the Panthers at Harrison on Sept. 6.

This one was a defensive battle from start to finish, with Flyers’ keeper Sebastian Kieruzal and a strong Lewis back row delivering the only shutout of the Panthers all season.

Kieruzal, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, matched DU keeper Conner – the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year – with five saves, as Drury outshot the Flyers 13-12. Lewis, however, managed eight shots in the second half to just three by the Panthers.

“Give Lewis credit … they kept us from doing some of the things we like to do offensively,” Drury first-year coach Ryan Swan said.

“It’s a tough loss, especially when I think of our four seniors (Steve Wilczewski, Jake Allison, Ben Nabers and Andrew Bordelon) and their contributions to this special season. But I think this group as a whole is going to remembered for producing the best season this program has had.”

Beya’s goal, his third of the season, came at 50:22 and was assisted by Lewis senior standout Nestor Hernandez, who was named the region’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player. Kieruzal claimed the region’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player distinction.

Joining those two on the All-Region team were Lewis’ Jose Ibarra and Zac Bond, Drury’s Steve Wilczewski, Blake Wilson, Ben Taylor and Conner, Steven Beattie of Northern Kentucky and James Livingston of Ashland.

Wilczewski finished his career with 35 goals, second most in Drury history behind only the 37 scored by John Pedroli from 1999-2002. He also set a school mark with 85 points and for most goals by a DU senior (17), the second most ever scored by a Panther in a season. Junior Micah Whorton set a DU single-season record with 15 assists and 45 points and now holds the career assists mark with 22, while Conner established a new program record for shutouts (14), consecutive shutouts (8) and goals against average (0.50).

Team marks established by the Panthers this season included victories (21), goals (63), assists (54), shutouts (15) and points in a season (180) and fewest goals allowed (11).
