First, I’d like to give congrats to the young men from Hickman. You’ve had a great season that you can be proud of!You saved your best for the end and got it done.

Next , I just feel that MSHSAA needs to have private schools in classes by themselves. Like it or not, they get away with recruiting athletes and this is something public schools aren’t allowed to do. I know this happens because I know a young man who went to a soccer camp at a university in St. Louis and within a week of returning home got a letter from a high school in St. Louis asking him to come visit their campus and speak to their admissions department. The head soccer coach of this high school was assisting at this camp. Quite a coincidence. I know that recruiting has been and is done by public schools, but is much easier to notice and catch. I’m not trying to take anything away from CBC, congrats to them on their state title. I would just like to see what I consider a level playing field for the public schools.

Why is there no outcry when the public schools dominate other sports. Get over it! You have the choice to send your child to any school you want. I send my boys to a private school because of the education first, and sports second. Soccer is one sport where the private/parachial schools stress soccer at an early age and develop it through their CYC programs. Would you rather have a Public Champion and a Private Champion. Everybody would know, especially the kids, that in most years, the Private would win out. Hickman was a good team. Look at the schedule CBC plays and compare it to Hickman’s. That is where they earned it. Congratulations CBC and Hickman on fine years.

Are you missing my point? The private schools get away with recruiting! You cannot say that it doesn’t. That sir is my point. If public schools got caught doing it they would be stripped of any titles and not allowed to play in the post season.

  4. HamitonSoc says:

Then have your kid get recruited. That simple. Public kids do not want to be separated from private. Winning a state title would not mean nearly as much, and they would never know if they could have beat the state champion of private schools. I, myself, am a public high school athlete and i do not believe they should be separated from the rest- this happens in plenty of cities, and public schools are greatly looked down upon for that reason.
