Six Panthers Recognized As Daktronics All-Midwest Selections

Members of the Panthers who were honored, after helping Drury to a 21-2-0 record and their first Great Lakes Valley Conference championship and NCAA-II Tournament berth, were keeper Stephen Conner, forwards Micah Whorton and Steve Wilczewski, midfielder Andrew Bordelon and defenders Ben Taylor and Peter Higgins.
Drury University had the largest representation on the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II Midwest Region men’s soccer teams. The Panthers placed six players on the first team.
Northern Kentucky’s Steven Beattie was selected as the Midwest Region Player of the Year.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA), with voting powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM
Beattie, a junior from Skerries, Ireland, tied for the lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals scored with 23. Eight of those goals were game-winners for the Norse. He was a first team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first team All-American in 2008 and was the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2009.
Members of the Midwest Region first team are eligible for the 2009 Daktronics Division II All-America men’s soccer team, to be announced Tuesday, Dec. 1.
