The 19th-ranked Missouri State men’s soccer team (12-3-2, 7-1-1) will face the Evansville Purple Aces (11-7-1, 5-4-1) in the semifinal round of the MVC Tournament on Friday, November 13. Kickoff at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa, is set for 3:30 p.m. With a win over Evansville, the Bears would advance to the championship match to face the winner of Friday’s Creighton-Drake semifinal match.

Missouri State defeated Evansville, 1-0, in both matches this season. Johannes Demarzi scored an unassisted goal in the match at Evansville. He assisted on Jordan Hoffman’s goal in the Bears’ victory at Plaster Field.

2009 Men’s Soccer Notes

Missouri State went undefeated in the matches against its prospective championship opponents as well. The Bears downed Drake, 2-1, in Des Moines, on goals by Johannes Demarzi and Ryan Hennessy. Missouri State defeated the Bulldogs 3-2, in overtime, in Springfield with Edin Sabic, Ben Griffiths and Gerard Barbero each scoring a goal.

Missouri State was able to muster the only goal in the season series with the Bluejays in a 1-0 win in Omaha as Jordan Hoffman tallied the game-winning goal. The teams played to a scoreless draw in Springfield in October.

Missouri State is 10-12-3 all-time in the MVC Tournament. This season is the Bears’ 15th consecutive appearance in the MVC Tournament. The Bears have advanced to the finals four times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2008), winning the tournament in 1999.

Missouri State is ranked No. 19 in this week’s NSCAA National Rankings. It is the third consecutive week the Bears have received a top-25 nod. Missouri State is also ranked in the Soccer America rankings (No. 19) and College Soccer News rankings (No. 23).
